Happy Passover

April 2, 2007 - 1:42 pm - by Roger L Simon

Seder tonight at our house. Not being a wildly religious type, I like to get to the Kosher Wine Tasting as quickly as possible, so I scoured the Internet for Haggadot (books that tell the story of Passover and are read at the Seder) that were not on the weighty Orthodox side.

I was sorely tempted by the “Two-Minute Haggadah” at Slate (but that would be wrong…), so ultimately opted for the “30Minute Seder – The Haggadah That Blends Brevity with Tradition.”

The prize for finding the Afikomen (hidden matzoh) is a National Geographic metal detector.

    Roger,

May your wine not be cloyingly sweet; may your afikomen be speedily revealed!

We made an interesting observation at our Seder this evening. It seems to my generation that the time it takes to get to the meal (“they tried to kill us – we survived – let’s eat”) gets shorter and shorter each year. However, the kids thought that it took ages. They loved it anyway so I guess we’ve got it about right.

    Anyway, Happy Pesach to all.

Ah, those traditions–vessels of the human spirit, may they sail forevermore, on ever freshening seas.

“I like to get to the Kosher Wine Tasting as quickly as possible, …”

But shouldn’t you be spending more time pondering the freedom you have to taste those wines?
