To expect the United States to step up to the plate at such a moment is naive in the extreme.
Israel is utterly on its own. Ohlmert must go, to be replaced by a leader willing to do that which must be done: launch a preemptive first strike that cripples Iran’s nuclear bomb making capacity.
Failure to do so spells the end for Israel, which will not survive an Iranian first strike.

I am with ripic. These are not idle threats. If that doesn’t happen before a first strike from Iran, the Holocaust will have happened again. (There are about 6 million Jews in Israel today.)
Heather, I wonder if any country in the world would retaliate against Iran if Iran launched a nuclear attack on Israel.
Meanwhile, Godzilla points out a technology that could let people living under oppression (whether an Islamic theocratic dictatorship or a godless totalitarian China) see what the outside world actually looks like. Maybe a glimpse of freeedom can change the course of history.
The strike should not only be at Iran’s WMD capabilities. It should be at the regime’s leadership–as individuals. I cannot stress this strongly enough. Cut off the head of the snake before you do anything else. All these guys put on their pants one leg at a time, and lie down to sleep, same as anyone else. 200-300 people in Tehran, Qom and a few other places. No boots on the ground, no occupation forces, no Green Zone, no humvees dodging IEDs. Just sudden justice from the air.
