Angelides hits the panic button

October 3, 2006 - 8:23 am - by Roger L Simon

Watching Phil Angelides on Fox the other night was like watching a one man herd of deer caught in all the headlights on the Santa Monica Freeway simultaneously. Or maybe all the cars streaming out of the USC game, because he was throwing the “Hail Marry Pass” of all time to prevent being swamped by the onrushing Arnold. If elected, our Phil now pledges to pull California troops out of Iraq unilaterally! Good boy, Phil. You win the “nice liberal boy of century medal,” but it ain’t gonna help you win the gubernatorial election one jot. In fact it makes you seem like a fool, preaching to the choir like some clueless lost cause, while your opponent bestrides the political center – where, as everyone knows, elections are won – well, like a weight lifter. And you know he’s not budging. Not our Arnold. [Do you remember one time Angelides was almost even in the polls?-ed. When was that?]

UPDATE: Bill Bradley has the state of play.

Pull California’s troops out? If the National Guard is federalized and he tries to do that, then he is placing California in rebellion against the federal government. We had a little to-do about that in the 1860s. I seem to recall reading that it didn’t turn out to good for the rebels.

Arnold is such a lucky guy. His political opponent is making an utter fool of himself. This election will not even be close. Arnold should easily win by a 15 point margin.

Did the interviewer ask him how he intended to go about it?

This is like that speech by John Edwards promising if elected “We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other debilitating diseases. … People like Chris Reeve will get out of their wheelchairs and walk again.”

I’ll consider moving and voting for him for a case of Napa Valley Merlot.

Don’t be laughing at Phil just yet. Remember we have over 4 million illegals in the state that the Democrats have been registering to vote and both House and Senate is controlled by them. If he gets the Mexican illegal vote, the Honduran illegal vote, the Salvadoran illegal vote he’s a shoo in and Arnold is history.

“our Phil now pledges to pull California troops out of Iraq unilaterally”

That is what this country needs more of: Democrats who have no idea of the law.

A one man herd? Now that is an interesting turn of phrase.

He what?? What in God’s name makes him think he’s got the authority to do that??

    Speaking of panic buttons.
I can’t think of a request for the resignation of an elected GOP official that has been ultimately turned down. Haster himself got the position after a string of scandal related resignations. As I recall he was chosen to placate dems. Newt’s evangelical (proactive) zeal was thought to contribute to the poisoned atmosphere pre and post Lewinsky. Haster would be the antithesis to Newt. It would be ironic if, once again, style triumphs over substance.
I’ve requested a Wikepidia List of elected republicans & democratic resignations. It would be interesting to look at them side by side.

Where would Bill Clinton, Gerry Studds, and Barney Frank be on your list?

Oh, that’s right, they didn’t resign.

Hell BQ, you left out the whole Kennedy clan. Not all of them had weewee envy but I’m sure that if that girl hadn’t drowned she would have suffocated to death under his girth.
