I don’t know what happened in Haditha. How in the world could I?… And how in the world could the hundreds or thousands of columnists who have already written about the supposed killings of Iraqi civilians by Marines? But I do remember the rush to judgment about the supposed massacre in Jenin (for which almost no apologies appeared) and I wonder. With that in mind I would invite all to read this article in the Hawaii Reporter – Haditha: Reasonable Doubt. Who knows?

Excellent reporting. I hope this reporteris right. It would be tough for Murtha to backpedal from that. I just hope Murtha is getting his info from the Iraq’s. They could be lying to him.

Oh my gosh, I am only on my second cup of coffee. It is way too early to deal with abstract epistemological questions. Absolutely certainty is rarely achieved on this side of the grave. Still, we can often acquire sufficient evidence to justify our conclusions. At this moment, I strongly suspect that the Marines are innocent of all charges.
We can no longer trust the MSM and the national Democratic Party to be fair and objective. They are instead subconsciously committed to our defeat in the war on terrorism. Destroying the Bush administration is its number one goal. If a few Marines must be falsely convicted and sent to prison—so be it.
PS: Please note my emphasis on their ìsubconsciousî motivations. I doubt very much if they are (please forgive my indulgence in psycho-babble) in touch with their feelings.
I wondered about this from the beginning. I was not there, but neither was the NYT or Murtha or a lot of other people ready to lynch these young men.

Wow, both sides of this debate look absolutely foolish. Murtha has NO evidence from which to make such accusations. Even if Marines went on some rampage, Murtha should be called down for making a judgement without trial… not to mention failing to support our troops until they’re proven guilty.
We don’t know what happened, we may never know in fact. But, we must accept that in times of war, these horrors can happen, no matter who the President is, nor where the fighting is. The “Very Good Questions” read like “Ostrich Survival Techniques for Dummies”. The article would have been much more compelling to simply provide the useful quotes from people who disagreed with the current view… instead of trying to insinuate that the ‘insurgents’ were forcing these people to lie.
There’s a very small, clear and useful position to take on this subject. Have an investigation, if necessary have a trial, then after its all said and done, determine guilt or innocence based on fact and evidence… not premature, politically partisan conclusions and not vapid, poorly written excuses.
