It’s not just every imam from here to Lahore. Now soul idol Isaac Hayes has had enough! After nearly nine years playing the Chef on “South Park,” he has said adios to the show because of that cartoon’s disrespectful attitude toward organized religion. But this time it’s not Islam. It’s Hayes’ own faith – Scientology!

I can see it now – thousands of demonstrators, led by Tom Cruise and John Travolta, massing in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, demanding that the world’s media cease depicting graven images of L. Ron Hubbard – at least without his ascot. It all sounds like an episode of… “South Park.” [Hey,maybe it's all just a promotional stunt.-ed. Maybe it is.]

For some reason I’m not worried that Parker and Stone will have trouble figuring out how to deal with this in an episode. Hollywood simply has to keep acting like Hollywood and parker and Stone will never run out of ideas. These stories write themselves.

  2. If only it WERE a publicity stunt. Hayes’s words are eerily reminiscent of those of both religious and secular true believers who would chop of our heads either literally or figuratively if we don’t toe the party line.

This is a real pity. Up until this stunt, I admired and liked Isaac Hayes.

    Now?

    He’s a tool.

Hayes was on the XM radio show Opie and Anthony months ago and said the episode didn’t bother him. It was just those two guys way of making fun of everything.

So this sounds like he was pressured. The church wants to hurt the South Park creators any way they can.

I agree with Hud. I wasn’t aware of Hayes association with Scientology before today, but I have no trouble believing he was told what to say in no uncertain terms. For the young people who get most of their information watching the Comedy Channel, the exposition of Scientology’s tenets was a devastating revelation. Scientology’s supply chain has been whittled down considerably by that episode, and I’m sure they aren’t taking it calmly.
