We all have our nicknames [Do you want to hear yours?-ed. No!!!] but sometimes they just don’t seem to fit. Richard Perle, at least from my viewpoint, was a very pleasant fellow. Outspoken, yes. But not from the hip and not the slightest bit the “dark prince.” The night after my interview, I ran into him at a party at the home of a fellow conspirator and he wasn’t the least bit anti-social there either. Whether Perle is paranoid or not to be traveling with the security entourage he does, I don’t know, although I suspect he was being extra cautious for the Intelligence Summit (or someone asked him to be). Anyway, it was a rare pleasure to interview someone who isn’t taller than I am. I got sick of looking up (see Jack Kelly).

Roger, he doesn’t travel with security, except when he’s at our house, where Thurber-the-airedale handles it. The guys at the conference belonged to the conference…maybe good pr?

  2. Unrelated: anyone know what’s the deal with LGF? Is it cyberjihad? Haven’t been able to pull it up for the last 24 hrs…

I think highly of Michael A. Ledeenís The War Against the Terror Masters: Why It Happened. Where We Are Now. How We’ll Win. Amazon.com highlighted my customer review written back on November 23, 2002. We do, however, disagree about the Dubai World Ports situation. It is my adamant belief that this contract should be approved. Oh well, at least we agree most of the time.

German court convicts man for insulting Islam

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1653097

Feb 23, 2006 ó DUESSELDORF, Germany (Reuters) – A German court on Thursday convicted a businessman of insulting Islam by printing the word “Koran” on toilet paper and offering it to mosques.

The 61-year-old man, identified only as Manfred van H., was given a one-year jail sentence, suspended for five years, and ordered to complete 300 hours of community service, a district court in the western German town of Luedinghausen ruled.

The conviction comes after a Danish newspaper printed cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad ó sparking violent protests around the world from Muslims who saw the images as sacrilegious and an attack on their beliefs.

Manfred van H. printed out sheets of toilet paper bearing the word “Koran” shortly after a group of Muslims carried out a series of bomb attacks in London in July 2005. He sent the paper to German television stations, magazines and some 15 mosques.

Prosecutors said that in an accompanying letter Manfred van H. called Islam’s holy book a “cookbook for terrorists.”

He also offered his toilet paper for sale on the Internet at a price of 4 euros ($4.76) per roll, saying the proceeds would go toward a “memorial to all the victims of Islamic terrorism.”

The maximum sentence for insulting religious beliefs under the German criminal code is three years in prison.
