Won’t we have to clean our own house before we can clean up/out that one? The bulk of the money funding the U.N. comes from us and we keep electing people who not only see nothing wrong with its actions, they are steadily looking for ways to get themselves and their own cronies on that train. We empower (attention addicted) weirdos with our attention. How much more proof do we need, and then what? At what point will we say, “your behavior is cheap and embarrassing beyond our ability to tolerate”, and actually choose something else? Endlessly discussing, describing and pointing out what is wrong, does not equal doing something right.

Finding a flim flam of another $14,000 is nothing compared to what the Secretariat has been involved in the last several years. Sen. Norm Coleman and Chairman Henry Hyde have each proposed legislation to apply a tourniquet to US funding of the UN pending significant restructuring.
While my personal preference for restructuring involves explosive controlled demolition followed by a brigade of D-9′s pushing debris into the East River to create the foundation for a park, Chairman Hyde’s proposal is the better of the two on offer.
The answer to your question of “How much more proof do we need..?” is (for me): None. The current state of the UN and in particular the office of the Secretariat is an impediment to the organization’s stated purpose. The US should suspend payment of dues while Kofi the Kleptocrat remains in the US and in office and should exercise enormous care in vetting his replacement. If Annan cannot be removed I would support a “sense of the Senate” resolution declaring him persona non grata in the US and denying him a visa for the remainder of his life.

Rick, the D-9s are necessary but insufficient. We need a real plan. A good thing is that the rubble would give us lots of ups and downs ready-made, a la Central Park. A Belvedere Castle on the ruins of the General Assembly dome? Too unimaginative. Hey – another Disneyland Matterhorn.

The perks of UN membership are so obscene. The father bestows on the son his benefits of office. It happens all over the world. So how can you get too worked up over this “dime” fraud. These revelations are helpful tho in creating a climate here in this country of cynicism and disdain for this absurd institution.
