Two knock-down, drag out political fights are occurring today.
The first — “Trotsky’s Nightmare” Christopher Hitchens vs. “Not-So-Gorgeous” George Galloway. Hurry-hurry! That one goes off at 6:00PM Eastern! Available on line here.
Next up… at 8PM Central… I think it’s Central anyway… Victor “The Big Viceroy” Hanson vs. Arianna “I’ll Huff and I’ll Puff and I’ll Blow My Seven Million Dollar House Down with My Prius“! Fisticuffs here.
UPDATE: Error on the KPFT Houston site. Hitchens/Galloway debate is at 7PM Eastern, not 6.

I just clicked in to what I think is the Hitchens-Galloway thing but I don’t hear anyone who sounds like Hitchens (or any Brit). Who’s the stoner sounding dude talking about a bus tour?
I can’t get any of the links on that site to work, well..except for the rap music ones. Anyone know of another site with audio feed?
Just saw the update, thanks.
i CLICKED “other” on that link instead of windows.
it plays. a real shit anti war station, but it will carry the debate.
k — I just had to listen to Mumia Abu WhatverIkilledaguy and now they’re all whining about some murderer who is going to be executed. Ewww.
Whew — clicked the wrong link. What a nightmare. Now I’ve got Hitch.
I also clicked “Other” and I’m getting some lefties at the moment – a woman called Janet who doesn’t know what she’s doing and a man who keeps saying “Gollaway” and talking nonsense about the BBC. He just confused tow different BBC shows and about 15 minutes ago he complemented the BBC’s coverage then said that people in Northern Ireland probably wouldn’t agree – presumably implying that the “oppressed Catholics” don’t like it. On the contrary, Northern Irish Catholics get most of their news from the BBC while Protestants prefer ITV as they believe the BBC is sympathetic to Sinn Fein/IRA.
Knucklehead:
That “stoner” – his name is Klein and apparently he’s a Vietnam vet – is quite (unintentionally)comical. Earlier he claimed that computers were oppressors!
This audience is so stacked. Hitchens is simply fearless.
They just had some college kid claiming the looters were unfairly treated as they only wanted food to survive. The host Janet said the New Orleans “shoot to kill” order was scary. No mention of how scary being an unarmed citizen in NO whilst gangs of looting, raping, murdering thugs roamed the streets.
A statement written by Galloway was read claiming thousands died due to Katrina (and George Bush).
I get the impression Hitchens is on his own there. It seems like a pro-Galloway crowd. Jokes about Christopher Hitchens’ mother being the head of his fan club. That type of thing.
If anyone has a link for an archive of the main event (playable on Mozilla) let us know, please!
Who won?
>Who won?
Hands down – the popinjay slug.
Hitchens owned it. Granted, I already hold Hitchens’ position, but Galloway is a tub of air. My favorite moment was when the lefties in the audience were trying to shout Hitchens down (one of many) and Hitchens said something like, “I suspect many of you fancy yourselves sympathetic to socialists murdered by Saddam. I can see you sympthaize based on the zoo noises you’re making, and the scars you’ve earned under your long underground midnight struggle against Dick Cheney.” Or something like that.
I’ll be interested to see the CSPAN broadcast of this.
if anyone knows where this can be heard (without accessing this moonbat site) please post it.
thx
btw, found this re Hitchens debate; http://decision08.net/2005/09/14/the-grapple-in-the-apple/
By all accounts Hitchens slaughtered the little bastard.
Now if we can just get Hitchens to run for Senate and invite Galloway back for a rematch…..
Hitchens in a landslide.
Coisty,
The host Janet said the New Orleans “shoot to kill” order was scary.
I agree to the sentiment at least, didn’t hear the presentation. I find the notion that among the “failures” of the “Bush Administration” response was not sending US troops in to do battle with looters is “scary”. I’m no fan or apologist for looting or any other lawlessness and I wouldn’t have the slightest problem with the NOLA PD or private citizens popping caps into the thuggish arses of a bunch of looters, but I’d prefer we avoid sending US troops to do that job.
My reason behind that is not public or international perceptions, but just imagine for a moment the outcry we’d be hearing both domestically and internationally if, for example, the 82nd Airborne had been sent into NOLA and had shot up a couple dozen thugs. I think they’d have a point. I didn’t want US troops slaughtering looters in Baghdad and I especially don’t want them doing it in New Orleans. We have ample precedent for prosecuting and punishing criminals and we know where to get more wide screen TV’s and racks of T-shirts. I’m not convinced we have good precedents and replacement skills for US troops gunning down people down for disgusting behavior.
My report.
Galloway’s fans responded to cheap soundbites. Galloway pushed all the buttons and they cheered on cue. Hitch actually made complex sound arguments which mostly went over their heads, but there were a lot of Hitch fans in the audience, our group estimated about 60-40 in favor of Galloway.
I think Hitch was aiming mostly at the broader C-SPAN audience, but even if he hadn’t been, there was no way he could derail the Pavlovian responses of Galloway’s fans. It was scary. I know this analogy is overworked, but it truly was like being at a Nuremberg rally. Galloway is a demogogue of the first order.

Sorry for the double post. The second one has the permalink to my post.
