… for telling this story. But, as Rich Galen says, why is anyone bothering with this one?

I hope the day will come when people don’t have to be afraid to stand up the bad guys over there, but I am glad that lady and her kids are somewhere safe.

As for the other story: people need to grow up.

  2. Imagine that it is late 1945, and someone published a picture of the captive Hermann Goering in his underwear (now *there’s* a repellant image)…Now imagine that the media of the time is more interested in covering this story, and in talking about the unfairness done to Herr Goering, than in covering the revelations about the full horrors of the Third Reich.

Hard to imagine, isn’t it? And this shows how much the media has degenerated in 60 years.

Tim Blair has a good photo of the outrage at the broadcast of the photo: outraged in Baghdad.

I remember seeing a picture of an young American in Hitler’s bunker at the end of the war.

He had Hitler’s hat and was doing a pretty fair Charlie Chaplin.

The poor Germans, I bet they were mortified. Especially since the guy was a Jew.

    Someone should have sued.

They’ll find that it’s a whole lot easier to be a good American than to be a good Iraqi. A good American just has to avoid chronic law-breaking, and pay their taxes on time. It’s about that simple. It’ll never be that simple in Iraq–even with democracy.

Here is the headlines for the New York Times and once more use the word insurgent. They won’t show pictures of our citizens jumping out of the World Trade Center, won’t show what their pals the insurgents really do in the back room when they have you tied up and at their mercy, these murderous rats aren’t ‘insurgents’, call them what they really are.

A popular Baghdad restaurant was the scene of most of today’s casualties, while at least seven others, including an adviser to the prime minister, were killed elsewhere.

    ï Soldier’s Varying Accounts of Iraqi’s Death

Here is the real headline that they hide. Saddam Thugs and Saudi killers today exploded a bomb killing a woman and her 3 children. Seven others were blown to pieces by the merciless killers of innocents. 100 others were torn by shrapnel some losing eyes and limbs. Over 500 innocent people have been murdered by the mkillers from the Baathe Party, Islamic Fascists and crazies from the whole area. Insurgents, what the hell is going on with the Times and others of their ilk.

Maybe we should view those awkward photos of Saddam as a de-sensitization program for the Muslim sense of decorum and modesty. For too many Muslims, it’s sporting to kill Yanks, Christians, Jews, Westerners and Muslim apostates, high drama to torture and behead people, and virtuous to strap on semtex and blow up bystanders around you. But, moral living requires that Miss Indonesia not wear a certain kind of bathing suit in the Miss Universe pageant and that Pakistani women not run in a marathon with men and without being covered head to toe, and really that those loose women shouldn’t be in pageants or races at all.

Seeing a butcher in his scivvies may violate our dignity for allowing them and not as much his since he gave that up decades ago, but Muslim men and society forcing women to restrict their activities, suffer second-class standing and live as bolts of fabric is truly obscene. Our caring press, caring women’s groups and caring party don’t see it that way, though, much preferring, instead, to fantasize about bad Americans desecrating the Muslim book and preparing for the second coming of Cromwell in America.

Charlotte, wrt your first para, if the sight of skin–that is the ‘person’–is evil, but killing that person is holy…then it’s hard to see much of a long-term future for this cult’s spread thru any channel but terror.

…this cult’s spread thru any channel but terror

    You’re speaking of al-Jazeera, right? :)

  11. 11. charlotte

Anyway, agreed, Buddy. Cultural oppression in much of Muslim society is terror enforced through intimidation, honor killings and mutilations, even in Europe and no doubt here in the States. Why our press doesn’t highlight these atrocities and underlying pathologies is anybody’s guess, but mine is that liberal-leftist social justice is just for the white man.

Roit you are, Dovey. Them bloody wogs just ain’t up to snuff.

It’s from reading the Kipling over on Wretchard’s site. All them Englishmen sound like Kipling. That’s just a guess–having never even heard anyone Kipple, I really can’t know what Kipling sounds like.

Somehow, I don’t think he would have approved of our wars to liberate and moderate Muslim countries. He and our progressive Left might agree those people are not capable of embracing modernity or our way. Excerpt:

Take up the White man’s burden –

Send forth the best ye breed –

Go bind your sons to exile

    To serve your captives’ need;

    To wait in heavy harness

On fluttered folk and wild –

    Your new-caught, sullen peoples,

    Half devil and half child.

Take up the White Man’s burden –

    In patience to abide,

To veil the threat of terror

    And check the show of pride;

    By open speech and simple,

    An hundred times mad plain.

    To seek another’s profit,

    And work another’s gain.

Reading that, it’s hard to believe that RK is on the non-PC list. How can university-level English profs see THAT as racist and pro-colonial? One would have to take total leave of any appreciation of ironic devicery.
