Evidently some Arab-Americans have a complaint with Denny’s. I don’t know the truth of their allegations – that they were accused of being “Bin Ladens” and refused service. (Did they look like ghosts?), But if every time I had to wait “an hour” for my food, I got to sue for four millions dollars, I would be financing Pajamas Media by myself from my own private island off Tahiti. Still, I can understand they’d be upset. We live in times when people are making assumptions about each other on the flimsiest evidence – and over the worst food. Fortunately, however, hope is nigh, at least in the flash point world of the ptomaine-friendly diner. The “Soup Nazi” is back.

This happened at Denny’s a couple of years ago to some black secret-service agents, who sued and won.
Myself, I wonder. I’m not saying Denny’s doesn’t have a prejudice problem, but it’s also possible thse folks are all getting the “standard” Denny’s service. I (white guy) have always gotten incredibly slow service at every Denny’s I’ve tried. In fact, I won’t go to one now unless it’s 3AM and that’s the only choice.
Maybe they just don’t like your face, Ted N?
I strongly suspect that these Arab-Americans are lying. There is a interpretation of Islam that encourages Muslims to lie and filth on those outside the faith. We are considered scum of the earth. How would the Wendyís employee know that they are of Arab extraction? Was this pasted on their foreheads? No, this doesnít sound right.
TedN,
That might be a bit harsh. Denny’s is a fuel stop with service. The service providers have developed experiential knowledge about tipping by staying on their feet for many days over many weeks. They make perfectly rational decisions that are income related and will be modified only by a change in the experiential model.
It’s always TANSTAAFL and always has been. The “sue your way to success” ploy isn’t going to change a thing. Leaving a tip on occasion might.
David Thomson—
They aren’t claiming to have found body parts in the food. Wendy’s?
…
All but two meals I purchased when driving the country from west to east in 1996 were eaten at Denny’s. I always ordered one of the breakfasts (the ScramSlam) and I always got good value. The music in the Denny’s in central Oklahoma was great. I’m not kidding.

The link to ghosts and Soup Nazi point to the same article.
This one is real easy to confirm. From the original AP Breaking story, there are facts which will lead to lots of witnesses http://reelcobra.blogspot.com/
Buddy,
Busted! Maybe they were just afraid to come near me while I played air-guitar..
Rick,
Hmm, Denny’s doesn’t double with gas-pumps in my part of the world, but I’m a good tipper, even when I get bad service. I just don’t come back in that case. I’ve never had similar problems at IHOP or Waffle House. I’m glad other people have had better luck.
The Soup Nazi will be courteous: But a company spokesman said workers will be prohibited from shouting, “No soup for you!” at customers who disobey.
Darn.
Now that the DMV cleaned up its act, French restaurants will be the only place left for gratuitous abuse.

Here I am in a Sunni Muslim neighborhood of West Beirut being treated with the utmost level of courtesy and decency by the locals, and this is what you have to say? You ought to visit a Muslim country some time and meet average people and see what they’re like. But I can see from your attitude that you never, ever will.
It’s entirely possible that the people in question are lying. But if so they aren’t lying BECAUSE they are Muslims. Bigot.
David Thompson: “I strongly suspect that these Arab-Americans are lying. There is a interpretation of Islam that encourages Muslims to lie and filth on those outside the faith.”
There are interpretations of every religion that go to extremes, and these are hardly representative of the majority of the believers. What if Christians were judged by the acts of fundamentalists like Eric Rudolph or David Koresh (or Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker)?
I read something some months ago about a certain organization–can’t recall the name of it–within the jihad front, that expressly permits members to mimic even the most hedonistic, carnal habits of the enemy, in order to purchase a credibility that can later enable an advance of the jihad. OBL’s right hand man, the Egyptian doctor, Al Zarwaheri (sp?), was said to be a member, along with all or most of the deep-cover 911 nineteen.
I’m pretty sure that group or cult is what was meant in the comment–not any general insult to Islam or Muslims.
I don’t go to Denny’s because the one time I went into one I was ignored for so long I got up and left and walked a short distance, found a Mexican place, went in, ordered, ate, paid and left in less time than I had waited at the Denny’s. I think I pass for white here in MA, and probably even in Philly where the Denny’s was.
In terms of tips, in my current retail position I sometimes get tips. I’ve noticed no racial differences in tipping. I have been stiffed by whites and remunerated by blacks and asians.
