Idiot Savant?

March 27, 2005 - 7:52 am - by Roger L Simon

Here’s an example of someone who is technologically advanced (well, at least as much as your cable guy), but philosophically retarded. [This is new?-ed.]

If he was going for volume sales, he should have listed it as a CNN/MSNBC blocker… on the other hand, if his goal is to bilk gullible parlor pinks, drive on, sez I…

  2. 2. Wallace

The guy is not terribly bright. At no extra charge, my Philco TV came with a device already installed that will do that. It’s called a “channel changer”.

  3. 3. Stephen_M

I just know there’s a market for a “David E. Kelley Productions PreachBlocker”.

  4. 4. richard mcenroe

Stephen M. ó I’d settle for a Dick Wolf blocker. My thumb is getting tired from switching away from all these unscheduled L&O repeats.

And you just now he’s hammering away at a Terry Schiavo script for L&O right now. It will all be the fault of angry white Christer males…

How the device works: A small microchip over-rides the audio signal and inputs, at high-volume, “Lalalalalalalala…I can’t hear you…….Lalalalalalalalalal…..I can’t hear you………Lalalala……”

Woooooow! Get a load of that mug. Definitely not someone you’d want to see walk into the office with a violin case.

    Roger;

More free advertising for Murdoch. Amazing how the left adopts the intellectual attitude of the old european church by blocking all idea’s that challenge their own. I am not a huge fan of Fox News but I don’t find it any worse then the rest of the MSM. The more they treat Fox as if it was the TV network of the anti-christ the more it prospers. Their paranoia just draws attention to it.

  7. 7. Mark Poling

Well, you can’t always know when your children might be watching Fox News. God forbid.

Fox. It’s like porn to evangelical Lefties.

  8. See this guy is really pretty smart. He knows that those that don’t watch Fox are not smart enough to change the channel or delete the channel from their tv’s channel programming. Or as a last resort turn the set off. He obviously see’s a niche… LOL just kidding I think…

  9. This is really funny. And from a techie standpoint, even more so. Those little widgets are called blocking filters, and they used to be very common as a way to keep people from watching HBO unless they had paid.

They can be had in quantity for just about any frequency, but I’ll bet this guy makes a chunk by reselling this widget.

By the way, it will only work on the most ancient of cable television systems.

As for his silly politics, I can agree in only one way: Fox suppresses negative news about China. Other than that, they are remarkably “fair” and “balanced” – especially when you compare them to CBS.

LOL jbrookings…Fox is fun…switching back and forth between it and the competition is like Saturday night and Sunday morning. Even funnier is the articles close, the inventer bemoaning the ‘building of walls between the left and right’…electronic blocking, yes, ‘walls’, no…tee hee.

  11. 11. foreign devil

…and what was wrong with the channel blocking device on his remote? Duh, I bet he forgot it was there. What a marOOOOOn!

  12. 12. Terrye

Too bad he is not smart enough to know how to change a channel.

What are these people afraid of?

  13. 13. Kevin P

    Terrye:

They are afraid of losing their intellectual monopoly. The way the Popes feared Luther.

  14. 14. richard mcenroe

KevinP ó When it comes to intellectual monopoly, the left has Baltic and no houses…

  15. 15. mcg

As most of you could probably surmise, this device has absolutely no intelligence to actually distinguish between Fox News and any other channel. Rather, when you order it, you have to tell the supplier which channel Fox is on in your cable system, and they send you the proper filter for that channel. So if you chose, you could order the same device from them to block just about any channel you wish. (Assuming of course you find that sensible, and that you couldn’t just skip it with your remote control or even your cable box’s parental controls.)

  16. ìI am not a huge fan of Fox News but I don’t find it any worse then the rest of the MSM.î

Fox News does go out of its way (almost to the point of being obsessed) to be ìfair and balanced.î Is it perfect? No, and Iím afraid John Moore might have a valid point, ìI can agree in only one way: Fox suppresses negative news about China.î

  17. 17. Neo

The is an even simplier device to filter out the bias in the MSM. It’s called “the plug“.

  18. 18. Curmudgeon

Now if he could come up with a bloviation and general obnoxiousness filter (irrespective of network), I’d buy one.

  19. 19. PeterArgus

I dunno I think the guy has a real point. You know I was just remarking to the barefoot and pregnant woman, “Hey woman, didja ever notice how every night about 6 pm the whole family silently marches into the doublewide and sits down on the couch, even the hound dog, and stares out the tv.Then the tv just magically turns on and there he is, Brit Hume, giving us instructions from our Dear Leader.”

You know, some people — particularly some people on the left — get all up in arms at any attempt to filter pornography, on the cable or on the Internet. They have an absolute zero tolerance stance when it comes to anything they see as censorship. I have even seen the more extreme elements get riled up about Internet filters installed IN THE HOME on PERSONAL machines by parents, because that’s still censorship in their eyes.

I eagerly look forward to them denouncing this device.

  21. 21. Vexorg

I wonder if we should let these people know that Fox News is on the radio too, and that even with the FoxBlocker, Fix News is sending radio waves right through their heads anyway? There’s no escaping the Roveian Mind Control Ray(TM)…

  22. 22. Juliette

Engage moonbat dumbth (word coined by the late Steve Allen) while making a buck? Capitalistic genius. I’m serious.

  23. 23. Vexorg

Other than the fact that the person apparently responsible for this has made several posts in this Engadget thread on the device (warning: contains flamefest) that indicate him to be of a fairly high rank in the tinfoil hat brigade:

What a bunch of goons, tripping over each other to make the next idiotic poke. You consider yourselves learned political participants, dare I say adults? You act like children.

Judging from the way most of you responded, I doubt if a quarter of you even read the article or understood what his intent was.

  25. 25. M. Simon

    You guys don’t get it.

There is a sucker born every minute.

Why would a guy advertise such a product whose appeal is mainly to hard core Democrats?

    Hmmmmmmm?

  26. 26. Knucklehead

    M. Simon,

    Bottomlined that sucker, dinchya!
