The PA has said as much to the press. I’m hoping that it happens and I’m hoping that things move forward without a Palestinian bloodbath. There’s plenty of time to be cynical when things fall apart.

I remain optimistic because such naive Israeli liberal as Shimon Peres and the late Yitzhak Rabin have been effectively marginalized. These well meaning folks caused enormous harm. The conservative government of Ariel Sharon refuses to delude itself that the militants can be encouraged to drop their weapons and rejoin the wider community which worries about the mortgage payment and getting the kids to school on time.
Who threatens Israel the most: the Palestinian militants or Jewish liberals? I suspect that the latter are unwittingly the most dangerous.
“Sure Abbas, we’ll have a summit. Just hop over this wall here… come on, you can do it, hop, hop!”
ìDid I mention Bill Clinton? I guess not, but you don’t have to. He seems to be Davos’s favorite American, as Shimon Peres is the designated Israeli.î

Only an unwitting fool is deemed a ìfavoriteî among the Davos elite. Shimon Peres was played for a fool by Yasser Arafat. That is why he won the Nobel Prize.
