    No need to worry, Clint!

It doesn’t take much to scare MMoore. Last July it only took 20 bags of manure.

Moore can smirk all he wants but he may will be remembered as one of the huge political embarassments of the party he says he belongs to.

Moore is a no win kind of guy. For instance when my little brother and I had the fight that might well end our relationship this tub of lard was the center of it.

When I pointed out to my brother that not even Richard Clarke and the 911 Commission supported Moore’s version of events nor for that matter did Clinton he jsut responded that the Commission and all the rest of them were part of the same conspiracy.

Nice going Michael, you have people convinced that they can not trust anything, even the party you claim to support.

Democrats need to lock themselves in a room and decide who they are.

It is like the story of the frog and the scorpion.

The scorpion begs the frog for a ride across the river and the frog says no, if I let you on my back you will poison me. Why would I do that the scorpion asks, if I do that we both drown. Sure enough half way across the river the scorpion stings the frog. The frog says, why did you do that? Now we both will drown. It is my nature said the scorpion.

I had a fight with my mom over Michael Moore.

I overheard her explaining to someone that Fahrenheit 911 was “just one man’s opinion” and “the Republicans are up in arms about it.”

Geez, I didn’t know I was a Republican! (This was in the summer, so I had not yet ever voted for a Republican, to my knowledge.)

She would not listen to a thing I said, and we can no longer (“never ever ever” IIRC) talk about politics.

It saddens me deeply to report that she reads the NYT almost daily and considers her point of views moderate, close to center.

    Bostonian:

The thing that annoys me the most is that “will not listen” thing.

I mean when it comes to the place where I can’t say look at page 329 in the 911 Commission Report and it plainly states that Bush did not allow Osama’s family to fly out of the country…. and I get screamed at I don’t think I am the one with the listening problem.

  6. Terrye,

The version of that story I prefer is when at the end, the scorpion says, “I can swim”… Don’t assume that Lumpy Reifensthall is ignorant of what he’s doing to our country.

  7. 7. Terrye

    Cybr:

This is true, one would think however, that after the last election he would know what he is doing to the Democrat party.

The only thing I have that really cooks them is to ask why if all that is true do the Democrats not take Moore’s sources and use them to impeach the president? After all if Clinton can be impeached for lying about Monica I would think Bush could be impeached for plotting against the people of the US.

Unless of course it is all propaganda.

  8. 8. Bostonian

Something struck me as the SBVT came out: these men were confident of their case.

They said specific things and framed the entire case so that it could easily be taken to court. They were saying to Kerry, “Come and try to sue us.” Needless to say, Kerry did not take them up on that.

Likewise, in the WA election case right now (www.soundpolitics.com), Rossi’s people are preparing to go to court. You don’t do that unless you think you have facts & the law on your side.

But in contrast, when the Democrats thought things went wrong in OH, did they prepare a legal case? No, they grandstanded in Congress.

That takes nothing more than stage presence.

    Terrye,

ìThe only thing I have that really cooks them is to ask why if all that is true do the Democrats not take Moore’s sources and use them to impeach the president?î

Give them time. I suspect that somebody, somewhere, is working very hard to bring the suit of impeachment against Bush even as I type these words, piling the ìfake but accurateî variety of evidence sky high.

Your difficulties with your brother clearly hurt you deeply. I can sympathize; it happened to me back in 2001 when I finally ìcame outî.

Questioning Liberal Gospel According to Mike Moore can cost a lot of people their family peace, family ties and friendships (as we all know). One of the milder responses I personally got after pointing out the lies and distortions in F911 was: ìWell, they have Limbaugh, and we have Mike.î So it is all right, then.

However, there is a positive side to coming out i.e. one can find allies in most unlikely places. Only last week I found out that an older brother of my friend who abused me at his party for saying: ìI donít think that Bush is a moronî, and the brotherís wife both voted for Bush. Lady happens to be a registered Republican, too. The interesting bit is that we knew both of them for years (they also live in SF)Ö.and never suspected their affinity with the Dark SideÖ

I am a repeat Bush voter with many Bush-hating relatives. We just don’t talk about politics. What is the point? It is a shame, but it seems far better than getting into huge fights.

  11. Katherine

To this day, I still say “You had me at crawl space…”

    ;-)

But seriously, it’s terrible to lose friends and family in this way. More and more of my friends are, so to speak, “virtual.”

    And OT to Roger

It’s an odd coincidence that a reference to Clint Eastwood’s “Line of Fire” should come up here, now. I just watched the film again last weekend. The screenwriter, Jeff Maguire, was my friend and neighbor in the late seventies in L.A., though I’ve lost touch with him since.

    Terrye,

Why not tell him that you’ve learned that Moore’s condition was caused by an accidental partial lobotomy during circumcision? Given Moore’s condition you don’t feel that you can discuss him anymore. Then tell him that had you known the long range effect it would have, you would never have made him wear dresses when he was little.

It’s just politics and in a few years no one will remember much about it anyway (except me, but that’s caused by advanced psepholesis). I’d bet that he’s getting a kick out of teasing big sister – or he’s engaging in a payback that you don’t quite see. “A kind word turns away wrath.” It’s his problem, not yours.

  13. Rick Ballard

I’ve always called you our “resident psephologist,” but I am dismayed to hear that you are suffering from “advanced psepholesis.”

Is there a website for that? I feel like I ought to make a contribution.

Terrye- I lost longtime friends over M.Moore and the general lunacy that has infected the democratic party. The entire basis for his argument was fundamentally flawed- I cannot, as a rationale person, accept that the entire premise for the Iraq war was so that George W. could get (wait for it) RICHER. But Moore did and people bought it.

I think basing an entire anti-war platform on the ridiculous notion that George Bush is as bad as Hitler dooms you to failure long term. Nobody believes Bush is gassing Jews and burning books, do they ? And yet, I swear to God, some people I have known for a long time, rationale educated people tell me “It was all about oil”. And then they stop, and look at me, like they’re saying “Ccome have a sip of my koolaid.”

Also, does anyone else find it incredible that the Human Rights Commission ranked Abu Ghiraib (panties) right up there with Darfur (mass murder of a people)?

  15. Terrye,

The version I always heard had a camel instead of a frog, and the scorpion’s final response was “Because this is the middle east, stupid!”

    Bostonian,

The Democrats emitted or threatened to emit lawsuits at a tremendous rate. They aimed them at the stations that were to broadcast the commericals, and at John O’Neil, and who knows who else. My understnding as of yesterday was that they were still going after O’Neil.

Truth is the best defense against slander, but when billionaires are willing to throw huge numbers of lawyers from big law firms, in multiple suits, against you, the cost to defend yourself – such as the discovery efforts – can be enormous. I have information that causes me to believe that they did and are doing this to John O’Neil (the topic gives a hint as to why I worded this posting in a certain unusal way).

Today’s Democrats and their supporters are, by their actions, making it clear that they have no interest in the concept of free speech. That they would continue this arfter the election is especially galling.

They may be doing this partly because they fear that if they don’t win the suit, Kerry will be unable to run for President in 2008, and likely to lose the Senatorial re-election. If they don’t win such a suit, the opponents can claim that the charges were held valid in court (which would not necessarily be true, btw), a powerful political point.I suspect some is revenge, especially since I believe Kerry’s campaign manager said that not responding to the SBVT was the biggest mistake, implying that the SBVT pushed the election past the tipping point to Bush. Also, there will be one or more campaignsto unseat Kerry on various grounds (treason, 14th Amendment, felonious behavior in the peace movement, whatever).

I am not a lawyer, but it is my understanding that to get a slander judgement against a publicly known figure, you have to prove both that the facts were untruthful and that the slander was a result of actual malice (which means among other things, I believe, that you have to prove that the slanderer knew that the facts were false), not just carelessness. I would suggest that Bush has a good case against certain people at CBS.

    Rick

    “accidental partial lobotomy during circumcision”

ROFL That is good at several levels!

  16. 16. Bostonian

    John Moore:

Yes, I noticed that itchy trigger finger of the Democrats. I take it as 90% bluff, though. When your lawsuit is ready before anything even happened, it might just be hot air.

And I did indeed (and still do) think that the SBVT were confident *because* they had truth on their side.

John O’Neil taught me to have a great deal of respect for lawyers, respect I had not had before. Several legal blogs added to that, of course.

I’ve been wondering what’s happening with the SBVT. John Kerry got away with far, far too much. Not just endangering the troops in that war, not just slandering the reputations of so many innocent men–he helped create the War about War that we’re still having.

  17. 17. Terrye

Well you know guys I did a bang up job of avoiding the topic for some time but my brother finally pinned me down and to tell you the truth that made me as mad as the topic of conversation itself.

So I thought well fine just because both our parents are dead and we have no other siblings is no reason not to get in a big ass fight over that fat Benedict Arnold.

And I think the Democrats are underestimating how annoying they are. If I have to hear one more snarky little comment about how they are going to take that gloves off I will spit up…I mean what is left? Burning crosses on the White House lawn or what?

But I mean it, guys like Moore are good at editing mockumentaries and creating a false impression but if they think they can prove Bush went to war for a nonexistant pipeline or a war time contract for Halliburton or because Bush is related to the Saudi Royal family then they should sic Peolosi on it rather than making movies.

    idiots.

  18. 18. Terrye

I mean Pelosi, she of the face lift.

  19. 19. Katherine

    Jamie,

Isnít it good that I didnít have to have that crawl space lined with lead?

BTW, my party offer still stands, but nobody wants to comeÖ(sniff!). We would have it OUTSIDE the crawl space, I promiseÖ

    Terrye,

Re Pelosi: Quick, who said the following?

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”

    A) BushHitler in his mad rush to war

    B) The saintly Nancy, champion of the oppressed.

The answer, as you all guessed is B) but it was on Dec. 16, 1998 when the only Party deserving power was holding the White House.

Here’s the way Orson Welles told it:

“Now I’m going to tell you about a scorpion. This scorpion wanted to cross a river, so he asked the frog to carry him. No, said the frog, no think you; if I let you on my back you may sting me, and the sting of a scorpion is death. Now where – asked the scorpion – is the logic in that? For scorpions will try to be logical. If I sting you you will die, and I will drown. The frog was convinced and allowed the scorpion on his back, but just in the middle of the river he felt a terrible pain and realized that after all, the scorpion had stung him. Logic, cried the dying frog as he started under bearing the scorpion with him, there is no logic in this! I know, said the scorpion, but I can’t help it — it is my character.”

And then he proposed a toast to character.

From Mr. Arkadin, his most underrated movie. If Fellini had done a film noir, it would have been Mr. Arkadin.

I had a fight with my son over that tub-o-lard too. (He’s not a leftie. He’s hard to peg. He hates everything.) His argument was that it raised some important issues, even if it’s all lies. I now call him Dan Rather. He hates that now too.

Sorry I keep missing you; I seem to read Roger’s page at the wrong times!
