…because it seems rampant these days in the mainstream meadia. [Hasn't it always been?-ed. This is the weekend. Don't you take any time off? Don't you?] Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted, the latest example of disinfo is from the BBC again. (As my grandmother would say, “Vat den?”).

In a related development, a man with a large white ball on his head today took credit for Mad Cow Disease…

  2. Dan Rather isnít alone in making a fool of himself on behalf of a liberal agenda. The media hoax perpetuated on the BBC is inexcusable. Every news organization has well established policies regarding how to verify the authenticity of those claiming to represent government or business entities. This is basic 101 journalism. The editors, however, were likely thrilled that the ìevilî Dow Chemical is now allegedly admitting wrong doing and simply let their guard down. This would have never occurred if it involved an organization perceived as humane and benevolent. In that case, every precaution would have been taken.

In BBC’s defense, Finisterra’s announcement was fake but accurate. He only said what BBC knows SHOULD have been said…

The only marvel here is that the BBC was duped into believing that an evil, blood-sucking, Third World stomping, Gaia polluting and (shudder) profit obsessed Amerikkkan corporation would confess to crimes against humanity and pay out billions and billions. By their own pathological logic, this story should have been suspect

Union Carbide (now owned by Dow) got a bad rap on the Bhopal tragedy. Analysis of the chemical products formed showed that massive amounts of water had to have been added to the MIC, and that this caused the explosion. This clearly pointed to sabotage rather than company negligence. Finding some individual (probably Indian) responsible rather than the “evil” multinational corporation was not politically acceptable.

It is terrible that so many innocent people lost their lives in this incident.

Disclosure/Disclaimer: I am a chemist who was working for a multinational chemical company at that time. I have never worked for or had a financial interest in Dow or Union Carbide.

The thing that never seems to get mentioned about this is that Union Carbide was a minority partner in Bhopal, with the majority being held by the Indian government.

If I were British, I would feel a lot like I, as an American, feel about NPR: I generally ignore their broadcasts (except on the increasingly rare occasions when they actually play Classical music). What pases for “news” on those broadcasts is a joke because it’s so slanted – I am willing to let fools have all of the air time they want, as long as I don’t have to listen to it. OTOH, I am absolutely incensed that I am expected to pay for their caterwauling.

The significant part of this is that the BBC has obviously not paid the telephone bill, why else didn’t they ring Dow? They probably do a lot of business with the former Finance Minister of Nigeria as well.

Coming on the heals of the notorious Andrew Gilligan case the BBC can ill afford another blow to its credibility, couldn’t happen to a better bunch of sanctimonious, selfrighteous prigs.

This is what comes of choosing a story to fit the agenda.

  8. 8. Ben

We can only hope you are right, Peter. Unfortunately, CBS and the NYT don’t seem to have lost much credibility in certain circles. You see, what’s important are not facts, but overall truths. In other words, whether the TANG documents were forgeries doesn’t really matter because we (the right thinking Liberals, illuminati all) all know that GWB used his influence to avoid service.

    Ben,

The real rub is the fact that the BBC is financed by a compulsory licence fee.The licence covers all equipment capable of receiving television broadcasts,so even a video machine falls into the net. This applies even if one never watches the BBC and simply watches satellite, cable or the commercial channels.

There are fines of a £1000 and jail sentences for those who cannot pay the fines. Thus the great socialist organisation collects taxes from the poor like a robber baron whilst espousing every liberal left shibboleth on the planet.

Those over 65 and the blind are exempt,on my 65th birthday I shall buy a television, but I still won’t watch the BBC.

  10. 10. Ben

    Peter -

Aren’t the socialists the least bit ashamed at how “regressive” that tax is? OR, are they incapable of shame?

  11. 11. PeterUK

    Ben,

Shame isn’t in their repertoire, they are very middle class socialists,it is their God given right to make a living out of representing the downtrodden, they talk of nothing else at their dinner parties.

Re the BBC.A friend of mine was a senior producer whom I would occasionally ring long distance at work,he always said the same thing,”give me you number and I’ll ring you back let the BBC pay for it” From him I also learned that at any one time there are some twenty producers drawing salaries but have no programmes.

As some one said “They will fight this with drawn salaries”

  12. 12. Terrye

I guess this qualifies as fake but accurate.

    These people have no shame.

Today I got another lecture on the war. The woman I was talking to was saying she was happy to see Canadians giving Bush a hard time because he was Hitler.

I said that Clinton also bombed Iraq and stated that Saddam was a dangerous man with wmd who should be removed from power. re the Iraqi Liberation ACt.

She said I was full of it. Clinton never bombed Iraq and he did not say we should overthrow Saddam and Saddam did not have anything to do with 9/11 so there.

When most people are this uninformed and stupid the BBC and CBS and the rest can say just about anything they want to.

  13. Did I hear someone request a song? How about one to that gorgeous urban spiritual, “Operator” (information, give me Jesus on the line…)?

    Oh, MSM disinformation

I’m sad to say has just begun.

    Oh, MSM disinformation

Will now enjoy a good long run.

Truth is subjective, lies are the rule

Believe all they tell and you’d be a fool.

    Oh MSM disinformation

I’m sad to say has just begun.

    Oh, MSM disinformation

Has an agenda of its own.

    Oh, MSM disinformation

    Has proliferated as it’s grown.

    Bush is the culprit,

    Jews are the key

    Disinformation is what’s ailin’ me.

    Oh, MSM disinformation

Has an agenda all its own…

  14. A bit OT

PeterUK… is there a black market for receivers which cannot be detected by the equipment BBC uses to detect unlicensed equipment?

I assume it is still true that there are vehicles that drive around with sensing equipment, detecting cheaters.

[for skeptics who say you cannot detect a receiver, that is not true in the case of the almost universal superheterodyne receiver, unless that receiver has special shielding/filtering. For TV's there's yet another technique that may not work with plasma or LCD units - I don't know]

  15. 15. PeterUK

    John Moore,

The story is that the BBC has not got enough detector vans and relies on sending letters and inspectors round, some of whom try to illegally demand entrance. One such tried it on me, I told him to depart in a copulating mode and if he wished a detector van could be parked outside permanently.

The licencing agency is so obtrusive as to require buyers of new TVs to give their names and addrsses to the retailer,of course miscreants just go out and steal one.The presumption is that everyone has a TV so they just demand to see the license,The little bod that came round to me said” You have an aerial on the roof” to which I replied,”You have ears on your head, but they aren’t working either,I don’t have a television”

Undectectable receivers or a little black box that plugged in would sell like hot cakes in some areas, like car boot sales and open air markets.

    A nice little libertarian earner.

I just saw a report on how people have been going around giving flu vaccinations in Minnesota and Washington state. Turns out, nobody knows who these ‘medical professionals’ are! They just set up shop in a grocery store, for example, and start selling vaccinations. The authorities think it is just some money-making scam.

So, let’s recap: The MSM does it’s best to scare people to death by broadcasting endless stories of flu vaccine shortages in usual breathless fashion. (Some states are now reporting vaccine SURPLUSES, btw) Now the scared people are letting just anyone inject them with God-knows-what because they think they are getting one of the ‘few’ vaccines remaining. (Gee, wonder if Al Queda knows about this?)

    Thanks for the ‘information’, MSM.

  18. 18. PeterUK

Richard,Hard to tell, they all look the same in those bowler hats.
