Dept. of Making a Fool of Yourself

October 18, 2004 - 12:51 pm - by Roger L Simon

Two gentlemen just came to my house to interview me in French for Radio Suisse Romande (Swiss National Public Radio). You can guess the subjects – the USA, Europe, the War on Terror and… most especially… Team America. For those of you who are Francophone and want to make fun of my rusty (to put it mildy) French, I will post the Internet broadcast times later.

Yes, but have you asked if they’ll let you conduct their orchestra?

  2. 2. richard mcenroe

French interviewer: Qu’est-que se avec Team America?

Roger: Le tour d’Eiffel — *POUF* (big pouf-y hand waves)! L’ard f’Triomphe — *POUF* (big pouf-y hand waves)! il y a plu des allemands mortes, la! La Louvre — *POUF* (big pouf-y hand waves)! A bas les poseurs des artes!

  3. 3. richard mcenroe

‘ard’ est ‘arc’, vraiment… le PIMF, malheuresement…

  4. 4. richard mcenroe

    Oui, et “se” est “c’est”…

  5. OK, now how about a translation for those of us who don’t know the international language of capitulation?

  6. 6. Frederick

John Bono: The native language of Jacques Derrida and Johnny Hallyday is so rich and subtle that you can always just supply your own meaning.

Well, apparently I don’t either, but roughly:

French interviewer: What’s with Team America?

Roger: The Eiffel Tower — Boom! The Arc de Triomphe — Boom! many dead Germans there. The Louvre ó Boom! Down with the artsy phonies!

  8. I think a lot of reviewers are getting team America completely wrong. That’s my opinion, anyway. I think its totally ripping the left wing peaceniks, while depicting Americans as bumbling and violent, but essentially good hearted and actually right on facts. Note that no conservative icon is represented in the movie but plenty of lefties are: Jennings, Mooore, Blix, verious activist actors. Even movie critics?
