Buffoons of CBS

September 15, 2004 - 8:08 pm - by Roger L Simon

Not unexpectedly, via a new WaPo report, the gang at CBS are beginning to look like the most pathetic partisan buffoons, accepting unsubtantiated documents via fax from Abilene, Texas. Those documents… or whatever you want to call them… now seem to have been sent by a disgruntled figure with a history of depression. This is the vaunted mainstream media? The Wizard of Oz is more like it. The Kerry Campaign must be sighing with relief that it is not them… at least so far.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the Washington Post’s report, an intriguing paragraph:

In a related development, White House press secretary Scott McClellan hinted that more documents regarding Bush’s National Guard service may soon be released. Asked whether officials in the White House have seen unreleased documents, McClellan called that “a very real possibility.” Other officials with knowledge of the situation said more documents had indeed been uncovered and would be released in the coming days.

Poor CBS. If they hadn’t stonewalled, you could almost feel sorry for them. Maybe they should all go to Darfur and do penance, do something useful with their lives.

But not Dan – his future is assured.

UPDATE: Ace of Spades has many intersting posts regarding Mr. Burkett, including this fisking of the NYT.

So Kerry is saved for now?

I don’t like the man but I really don’t want it to be him. On one hand the complete destruction of a foe is always fun but then again it is election time and it could get awful complicated if the Democratic candidate is on suicide watch.

So these papers that are to be released, any ideas as to what they might be?

Hey, we still don’t know who connected Rather with Burkett.

I’ve got a new Kerry sign for the protest this Friday:

    FAKE MEDALS

    FAKE MEMOS

    FAKE

If anyone calls me on it, I’ll just say, “I would not have put the slogan on my sign if I did not believe in every aspect of it.”

    More docs from the WH?

“As Karl Rove steps from the shadows, Kerathery feels an icy fist close tightly around its heart.”

  5. The MSM is trying to show this story as a right wing attack on poor Dan. But those darned facts keep having a way of getting into the stories. Who is Dan covering up for? It must be a real big name that will do real big damage for Kerry. It isn’t just the “disgruntled figure.”

WaPo is reporting that the “original” memo was faxed from a Kinko’s about 20 miles from Burkett’s home in TX. They also mention that Burkett has displayed some signs of “instability” in the past. He now refuses to speak to reporters.

Here’s my theory: CBS delayed their response to the forgery charges, and it was a vague response, because Burkett was the source of the forged memo and today Burkett wouldn’t speak to the CBS guys when they wanted to talk with him about the memo. If I’m right the story will break wide open in the next few days when CBS realizes that their source is leaving them hanging out to dry.
