MTV is sponsoring something called a STAND UP AND HOLLA contest to pick a young person for a “primetime speaking role” at the Republican Convention. All the young people on the ballot seem worthy. But I’m voting for Reza Torkzadeh, because he will be addressing what I think is the most crucial international issue of our time – Iran. The more education in this area the American public gets the better, because, no matter who wins the coming election, the next President will have to deal with the Mullahs some way or other.

On that note I’ll toss this article by Walter Russell Meade onto the reading table…

Via Samizdata, an article on Imprisoned students and activists’ hunger strike gains support, which states

“It’s to note that the postponement, by the Mullhacracy, of the planned visit of the UN Human Rights team has been made in an effort to avoid any contact between the strikers and the foreign observation team.”

  3. I am surprised MTV is doing anything positive towards the Republicans. Normally, as I understand it, they are pure partisan Democrat shills.

I watch MTV all the time (for some bizarre reason). They are usually pretty bad on political stuff, however, they are actually slightly less bad than the networks, CNN etc., perhaps merely because they’re not as skilled at being partisan Democratic shills.

They actually did a segment on F 9/11 that impressed me. They followed 3 groups of kids: group A was Moore acolytes, group B was undecided, and group C was composed of kids who didn’t like Michael Moore. Group C was treated very respectfully and edited in a non-sleazy manner. The kids were all normal-looking and seeming kids, avoiding the usual media trope of making non-leftist kids seem like weirdos or dorks. The most vocal one was a very pretty Asian girl who said she was voting for Bush. I was amazed. It was actually a much better approach to talking about the movie than I saw almost anywhere else in the MSM.

They even did a segment on Protest Warrior, of course followed by a smirking Jon Stewart comment.

They try to give some coverage to Republicans while making their sympathies known in subtle fashion whenever they can.

I’m sorry, but I refuse to have anything to do with any person or organization that uses the word “holla”.
