If The Washington Post is to be believed, Democratic Senator Chris Dodd — you know, the chap with the “cottage” in Ireland, the sweetheart deals with various mortgage companies that you and I, with no patronage to dispense, could never wrangle, and a reputation for honesty that rivals that of Barney Frank — will announce later today that he is not seeking reelection. “Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D),” the paper reports, “has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.” Well, 30 years with his lips sewn to the public teat was probably enough, and, besides, Dodd’s poll numbers make Obama’s look good. The likely beneficiary of Dodd’s withdrawal is Connecticut’s Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal, around whom the nimbus of candidacy has been swirling for months. Blumenthal would certainly be a more creditable candidate than Chris Dodd. Would he be strong enough to defeat the likely challengers, former Congressman Rob Simmons or political novice Linda McMahon? As a Connecticut resident, I am rooting for Simmons, who I believe would have crushed Dodd. It will be interesting to see how the stars reconfigure themselves if Dodd does indeed withdraw. The Post suggests that both McMahon and Simmons would start “as an underdog in a general election matchup with Blumenthal.” Perhaps so. But underdogs have been known to win. And in this political environment, starting as an underdog may prove to be an bankable advantage.
Exit Chris Dodd — Good Riddance

One looter down, many dozens to go.
Good riddance, indeed.
Perhaps Mr. Dodd is frustrated with the lack of a suitable senate partner for a ‘waitress sandwich.’
.
The Dem strategy is now clear. Vote in Socialism and destroy the Country and Constitution for their own personal and idealogical profit. Then resign from office in order not to stand the wrath of the voting citizens for this treason. Then run surrogate candidates and fix the elections so that the Party, and they, remain in power. They remain in power as appointed czars and other positions behind the scenes, ruling thru the puppets. Truly a gangster oligarcy.
Thirty years on the public teat? How about a lifetime of retirement benefits that long suffering taxpayers can only dream about?
Heat deflectors. Chris Dodge.
It makes sense. A big national spectacle against prominent Democrats that sold out the country for personal gain, would garner a national momentum.
One way to stop it before it begins, is to detonate the bombshell early.
As long as you have the entrenched media in your pocket, they will not keep the memory of treason alive…especially since they are co-conspirators. The silence on the issue will be deafening.
Remove the targets of anger and resistance will be tempered. Let the media do the rest of the dirty work, hide the facts, play the shell game with the truth, distort the issues.
Slow the groundswell of pushback.
Brilliant, actually.
No…I dont agree with good riddance, Roger. We miss our day in court against those who repeatedly violated us. We missed our verdict being heard. We missed our chance to have our voices heard by the megaphone shaped like a voting booth. We will be silenced, yet again.
Well, lets get a Conservative Republican or Conservative Independent to remove that Senatorial Seat from the Criminal Cabal Web in Washington DC.
Good riddance, Asshat!
Former Congressman Rob Simmons, is the most stand up & honest man involved in politics today!!! He is not in it for himself, but for the citizens of Connecticut & the United States. He is you & me, a regular person, a person who gets it!!!!! Blumenthal is all Flash and TV cameras and wants nothing more then to partake in Washington’s glitz & greed!!!!
Dodd questionable behavior goes back years!
According to Jack Anderson’s 1968 book, “The Case Against Congress”, Chris Dodd’s father,
Senator Tom Dodd, gets a full chapter. What is relevant to his son Christopher is the
following from page 66:
“Another son, Christopher, became quite the young college man-about-town, driving around
in the shiny new Oldsmobile furnished the family by the president of the Dunbar Company [a
company "that the Juvenile Delinquency Subcommittee was investigating ... the exclusive use
of a succession of new Oldsmobiles from David Dunbar, president of a moving company Tom Dodd
was helping obtain Government contracts - pg. 65]. While at Providence College he was
permitted to charge to his father’s Senate phone allowance hundreds of dollars in
long-distance calls to girl friends. And the Dodd for Senate campaign Committee paid
Christopher’s gasoline bills for fun trips around the country.”
. . . and on and on. This stuff seems to be the world he was born into. Sick, sad, and
crooked!

Glad to see Mr Dodd is leaving the public trough. Too bad the NYT gave him such a good review/obit. They call him key to improving financial reform while we all know that he was part of the problem. Hopefully, Barney will follow in his footsteps … and CT voters will make the right decision on his replacement.
Lets hope he doesnt let the door hit him in the butt on his way out.
