In old Soviet Union things got better each year until the whole edifice suddenly collapsed. The characteristic of managed news is that events never approach with the slowness of a ship making its appearance in the offing. Rather they materialize with the suddeness of a vessel that has risen from the depths and is firing broadside after broadside at you like the Flying Dutchman in Pirates of the Caribbean. This must have been the impression conveyed by Robert Gibbs when he predicted that Democrats might lose the House in November.
“I think I did what is maybe uncommon in this town,” said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. “I opened my mouth and stated the obvious.”
‘Whaaat?’ or is it ‘Why only now?’ Gibbs was immediately at daggers drawn with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The speaker said:
“How could [Gibbs] know what is going on in our districts?” Pelosi told her members in the caucus meeting in the basement of the Capitol Tuesday night. “Some may weigh his words more than others. We have made our disagreement known to the White House.”
How could Gibbs know? Maybe because he reads the polls. Apart from the Washington Post-ABC News poll showing the President’s popularity heading on a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, the Financial Times now reports that President Obama faces a “growing credibility crisis”. That phrase if it means anything, suggests that his rank and file have lost confidence in his ability to lead them to victory.
“If you ask me where the silver lining is for President Obama, I have to say I cannot see one,” says Bill Galston, a former Clinton official, who has been predicting for months the Democrats could lose the House. “Just as BP’s failure to cap the well has been so damaging, Obama’s failure to cap unemployment will be his undoing. There is nothing he can do to affect the jobless rate before November.”
The direction of the data could hardly be worse. According to Democracy Corps, a group headed by Stanley Greenberg, a liberal pollster who is a close friend of Rahm Emanuel, Mr Obama’s chief of staff, a majority of US citizens see Mr Obama as “too liberal”.
Astonishingly, 55 per cent of citizens think Mr Obama is a “socialist” against only 39 per cent who do not share that diagnosis. The same poll shows 48 per cent support for Republicans against just 42 per cent for Democrats. The numbers are eerily similar to 2006, except that it was George W. Bush’s Republicans who were on the receiving end four years ago.
“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” says Rob Shapiro, another former Clinton official and a supporter of Mr Obama. “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
Galston and Greenberg should be glad they’re civilians. Stanley McChrystal said the same thing about the President’s military prowess and look where it got him. None of this is news to those following events but its sudden debut on prime time MSM, which had until recently been minimizing and pooh-pooing the President’s woes, may be the story itself. The President’s troops are looking for a way out electoral annihilation and the only way they can obtain room to maneuver is to get the attention of the golfing leader of the political armies. Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post suggests the headlines open the floodgates on a long suppressed debate that is about to begin. In the words of Mao, now is the time to “let a hundred flowers bloom and let a thousand schools of thought contend”. They’re going to need it to figure a way out of the tailspin they’re in. Cillizza writes:
Now, Democrats are being forced into a process conversation about whether or not their majority is in jeopardy — a conversation that the House leadership did their damnedest to avoid by adopting a concerted strategy not to mention publicly the idea that control was at stake in the fall.
The counter-argument — and, yes, this is politics so there is always a counter argument — is that in acknowledging that the House could switch control effectively set the stakes for voters this fall.
‘We are flanked! We are f***ed!’ Now the dam has burst and the knives have come out, as Gibbs has already discovered to his cost. Nancy Pelosi is out with the sealant but it may too late. What the Democrat strategists fear is that the cracks in the wall may widen to the point where panic becomes general.
“The White House waving the white flag creates panic,” said a senior House Democratic aide. …
One senior House strategist said that the timing of the comments could not have been worse as the third fundraising quarter, which spans from July 1 to Sept. 30, is the most critical of the year since media buys — typically the costliest part of any campaign — are made during this time. “The NRCC was struggling to raise enough money,” said the source. “This is not a mistake we needed now.” …
No indeed. Especially not when the filing deadlines have passed. As Cillizza notes “any House Democrat edgy about whether or not to seek re-election — with VERY few exceptions — can’t back out now even if he or she wanted to.” Translation: any Democrat who has invested millions in his/her re-election should be prepared to kiss that bundle goodbye because if even the White House doesn’t think they can win, who will? They should have made the mistake sooner, when there was still time to chicken out of running.
But maybe that’s the wrong perspective. A lot of Democrats who are now staring political death in the face may now be asking themselves what has changed since they were re-elected last. Who brought this pox upon their houses? The right answer would be the political and economic environment. But the obvious answer would be Barack Obama. He’s the obvious patsy. He’s what changed since last. As the President’s unpopularity bears down on his supporters like the albatross around the Ancient Mariner, the temptation to survive at his expense may easily infect a group of people who were opportunists to begin with. The President and Nancy Pelosi know exactly how steadfast and principled their minions are. The thought of their principled followers sacrificing themselves to Hope and Change will doubtless assure them in the nights to come. But if I were the President, in spite of the assurances of Nancy Pelosi, I wouldn’t count on it.
And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; TEKEL, you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting; PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians

While I like the idea that the titanic sins of Obama and his Leftist cadres will be punished harshly, the idea that the Persians inherit the spoils is most unfortunate!
The fingers are pointing, the gods must be appeased. The One must be hauled to the pyramid. There, a fellow whose robe is caked thick with dried blood, whose hair and nails are never cut, awaits with an obsidian knife.
He is hauled to the top and pulled tightly backwards over a stone altar. Then the knife plunges, the still-beating heart is cut out, the body is kicked down the pyramid steps, while the pulsating organ is held aloft as evidence that the Evil One has been excised from the society.
But it won’t work. The crops still fail, women fail to conceive, enemies swarm the borders. Something else must be called for.
Well, that’s what happens when you lose control of the narrative, I suppose.
Obambus is an ineffective, inexperienced, socialist, secret muslim, not born in the USA, hates the USA, hates white people, plays golf instead of working, hates Jews, hates Republicans, hates business – and is too close to it.
And of that entire peroration, only one word really matters.
I’ve noticed that the meme that Obama stole the election from Hillary is starting to surface. Reports of election fraud, and bullying/mau mauing the caucuses in states that have them, have been around since 2008/9 of course, but now it is Democrats talking about it. They are also mentioning what happens if the Republicans take the House and start issuing subpoenas for mopery with an attempt to gawk on steam boat landings and etc.

Indeed… Some time last year here on BC I half-jokingly predicted that if the “birther” bandwagon ever started making the rounds again, liberal Democrats disillusioned with BHO would be the ones jumping on it. Now my prediction actually might have something going for it. I certainly wouldn’t put it past Hillary to take that particular bandwagon out for a spin.
Powerline is on the job, Female Czech MPs pose for calendar.
How do you like dem apples, Danny Boy?
Here’s a fox news reports segment on some Hillary supporters documenting significant voting irregularities by O’s people during the 2008 campaign. http://wewillnotbesilenced2008.com/index.htm
Hillary’s people have put out a film called We Will Not Be Silenced
And remember that this is a Zero year – State Legislatures elected in Zero years are the ones which get to draw the congressional districts which will be in place for the next 10. And *this* is the census in which at least 10 seats are going to leave the Rustbelt and the northeast and head to more conservative areas in the south and southwest.
So not only are the Dems going to get hammered in 2010, they are going to get double hammered in 2012 when the new districts kick in.
Mao’s quote about letting 100 flowers bloom also caused his “Cultural Revolution” to bloom. Mao thought that the criticism that his dictum would inspire would be the helpful, constructive kind that would help Chinese society more quickly realize the Communist ideal. What instead happened is that the Chinese public started criticizing not only the leadership but also the very idea of Communism. The Cultural Revolution was very much a crack down on what the 100 flowers idea started.
Mao thought no such thing, KKD. It was a ploy to get dissidents to come out in the open and be slaughtered. It worked.
There is a video showing a townhall with a Dem member of Congress. A lady asks him about the DOJ deep sixing the Black Panther Voting case. He claims he hasn’t heard of that there case. There is much jeering from the crowd.
That event could not have occurred 10 years ago, because this story about collusion between the DOJ and the Black Panthers would never have appeared in the MSM, and knowledge would be limited to a few dedicated news junkies, easily written off as ‘kooks.’ THAT is what is happening to Reid and Pelosi and Obama: it’s the Internet, stoopid.
Also, that member of the Congress I cited above managed to look like a fool: his face just collapsed as the jeers came at him. He has no chance in the coming election. He is toast.
We are coming to a time when there are no real ‘insiders’ anymore; and anyone can take a closeup video of any ‘ruler’ holding forth.
Another sign of the End Times: The NL won the All-Star game for the first time since 1996. And it was a White Sox pitcher (Obammy’s team that plays in “Cominskey Field”) who threw the pitch that gave the NL its win.
(Here’s a video of the Preznit proving that he doesn’t know the correct name of “his” team’s stadium: http://www.breitbart.tv/white-sox-fan-obama-botches-name-of-commiskey-field-during-all-star-game-interview/)
Talk about loss of credibility even in small matters. At least he didn’t ruin the ASG this year with his second-inning episode of verbal diarrhea in the announcers’ booth.
Show no mercy, be scathing and relentless. And Let’s start smashing the dirty red scum.
I’m otherwise speechless- the poker is white hot on this one wretch. Good one, good one indeed.
Also, just what does Gibbs think he, Gibbs, figured out, and “knows” now, that we knew all along? Gee, I wouldn’t want to try and walk in his [Gibbs] cement overshoes now! He done lipped off in the direction of the wrong Speaker -ess of the House, iffn you was to ask me.

The U.S. Leader Ship is sinking. Will America follow? Will hope still float even after losing the boat? Film at the next 9-11.
“He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
And Pee-Wee Herman needs to face third and long against the New Orleans Saints’ defense. That one made me LOL.
Is there anyone of sufficient stature in the Democrat party — wise elders — to tell Obama “Mr. President, there is a cancer on your presidency?”
I’m asking seriously. Have all the wise old men of the party died or disappeared? Used to be that behind every administration there were party elders who could advise. But is all we have today Mort Zuckerman babeling publicly about what a mistake he made? Sam Nunn is still alive. Is he it?
Will the Boy King listen to anyone except the voices of Marx, Engels, Guevera, and Wright in his head?
Shapiro has no imagination: I’m sure Obama’s Muslim friends can arrange another 9/11–I thought that was what they were trying to do anyway–or his friends in the NAACP can arrange some “racial” incident that will allow Obama to condemn the USA and appear to be a world leader of great stature; short of that Obama can blame white people and Jews for the world’s ills, like his mentor Wright does.
‘short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”’ Boy I hope they are not hoping for something like that.
From my own perspective, I think people could tolerate Obama but this health care debacle presided over by Pelosi and Reid is really where I thought for the first time that our government had gone completely rogue, counter to a strong majority of all voters and recently with the Holder abolition reason and law. Sometime ago, the US stopped being a a nation of laws and started being a nation of unbridled passions.
“Reports of election fraud, and bullying/mau mauing… ”
I wouldn’t count too much on this. These are important Democrat operating procedures. You could be pretty sure what they are up to because that is what they will accuse their opposition of.

And here I thought Congrefs worked for us…

Although a domestic terrorist attack such as perpetrated at the Murrah Federal Building could swing some support to the current administration, another 9/11 might well be the nail driven clean through the coffin.
When he was running for election the way the media managed to divert any focus on any of Obama’s past incarnations, I thought that he must be incredibly sharp, devious and sinister. As all this administrations ineptitude finally bubbles to the surface, the image coming into focus is one of an insecure useful idiot who rose up to the top solely due to affirmative action and the actions of the diversity gestapo.
To be honest, I am a little relieved to know that it is just a bad nightmare and that the worst part will already be over by the end of the coming elections.
In fact, I might even be able to enjoy the last 2 years of his administration as we find out what he decides he wants his legacy to be, how pathetic that desired legacy is, and how he will never achieve it because he was never anything but a useful idiot to begin with.
If a shark is bleeding his fellow sharks will show no mercy. Around March of 2011 there will be a sufficiency of blood. There will probably be enough to trigger a feeding frenzy, and all the plots and plans will avail none not.
Wheeler at TTP is suggesting that Dems will initiate or allow
a second 911.
“…That party is now being threatened with being thrown out of power. If that party is evil enough and fascist enough to cause an economic catastrophe, it is certainly evil and fascist enough to cause a physical catastrophe, an Ultimate October Surprise, that will frighten and enrage voters enough to preserve its power in November….”

“Indeed… Some time last year here on BC I half-jokingly predicted that if the “birther” bandwagon ever started making the rounds again, liberal Democrats disillusioned with BHO would be the ones jumping on it. “
Josh, I’ve been predicting this, here at BC and on other places, since before he was elected, to much derision at times. I didn’t see your posts on this subject last year but it would have been the first time someone agreed with me. Belated thanks.
I’ve also predicted since the inauguration that we’d know when things get desperate – really desperate – for the administration when the entire left of center machine was using their toadies in the press to push the meme that ANYBODY who opposes Obama for ANY reason is a proven racist. This has also come to pass with the NAACP’s latest pronouncement.
The last thing I predicted was that if it looked like things were going to swing back rightward you’d see a feeding frenzy of marginal businesses that were either rent seekers or connected in some way to the public sector try to grab as much puclic sector lucre as they could. It’s begun. As evidence I present an op/ed in todays WSJ by the president of Columbia University calling for massive federal funding of the news industry, way, way beyond NPR and PBS. Read it on an empty stomach, otherwise you may pay for food you won’t use.
Ok, so the Left is in collapse and the Republicans sweep in November and wake up with control of both the House and the Senate.
Then what?
Cuts to Medicare, Social Security and the other entitlements which are sinking our country into a grave of debt? I hate to be negative, but I don’t see any evidence that the party leadership is positioning itself to take the real, hard, but necessary steps to fix what is wrong with our country.
We are three months out from the election and exactly what is the Republican Party’s recipe for fixing the problems? I’ll be voting for them, but where is the unified platform and campaign like in ’94?
“growing credibility crisis”. That phrase if it means anything, suggests that his rank and file have lost confidence in his ability to lead them to victory.
I took it as the growing perception that Obama lies about everything.
His rhetorical tic has always been some lie, followed by “and that’s why,” followed by a bad idea.
I took it that somebody noticed.
I could be wrong, and probably will, but let’s just venture the possibility that President Obama himself comes to recognize the depth of his disconnect with the country and sees all his possibilities slipping away. Only a truly bold and unexpected action would have the chance of reshuffling the political deck.
One such history changer would be decisive action to prevent the Iranian nuclear program from achieving its goals during his time. While he probably sees himself as a peacemaker of historic proportions and cannot bring himself to put the US military and intelligence assets into the lead, he might well concede in actions by Israel, including giving limited logistical support.
If that were to occur, the domestic forces of opposition and support would be reconfigured in ways that might save his political prospects.
While it is not highly likely to occur, it is becoming a far less unimaginable scenario. Who left to throw under the bus than the unpopular mullah regime? And with Mattis in place in his command post, the right ingredients for success may be coming into place.
I’m with Marsh Arab on this one. The national mood is not pro-Republican. It’s simply anti-incumbent: the current approval rate for Congress is somewhere around 15 percent. The GOP has no standard bearer, and it has no platform. If the GOP’s graybeards were clever, they’d dump Steele and give the chair to Sarah Palin. Money would flood in from the base, the markets would take heart, and the lefties would wet themselves with fear and loathing. But the GOP’s graybeards were never known for their cleverness…
This is what happens, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, when a leader (LOL, I’m wetting myself laughing)like Hussein Soetero attacks Jews under the guise of Israel. The fact that the party in majority, including all their Jewish elected officials, is standing by silently, has inspired a collective punishment on the American people. The longer the president in mufti remains in office the deeper and longer lasting the punishment will be. How terrible for this great country!
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
First, the Republicans have to win the House and perhaps the Senate in November. Second, if they do, then the best we will get is a combination of paralysis and a slew of executive orders and recess appointments. Don’t underestimate the lengths to which the Obama administration will bend Constitutional restraints to bypass Congress and push his agenda by whatever means he can get away with.
On the other hand, this can also be viewed as setting up the game of unmet expectations. By ordaining that the Republicans will win the House, Gibbs is making anything short of a Republican blow-out seem like an Obama victory.
To turn Mark Twain’s famous comment on its head, “Reports of my victory are highly exaggerated.”
Clioman,
Following GOP electoral blowouts, the greybeards determined that the greybeards should retain leadership.
Deal with it.
(it’s always possible we might get a different result by doing the same thing, right?)
28/no mo uro: I graduated from Columbia before it was taken over by the left. The current president, Lee Bollinger, was previously president of U Mich and was the source of the last racial discrimination case decided by the Supreme Court. This was the one where Sandra Day O’Conner said that she hoped reverse discrimination wouldn’t be necessary in 25 years, but it was ok for now. What a moron.
I used to contribute to Columbia’s scholarship fund, but stopped about 15 years ago. I wrote and told them that since they chose to invite Angela Davis to speak, had a professor who wished for “a million Mogadishus”, etc, they would get no more money from me. Never heard back.
One comment then back on the line trying to get the votes out.
The GOP is failing and failing more each day. The Tea Parties know this and are backing conservatives where ever they can find them. The repubs that try and latch on to the skirts of the Tea movement[s] are being shucked off like so many fleas on a dog.
The failure of Obama and the distain of Americans for congresscritters will do little to stop the rush to make America into a third world socialist failure. Why? Because they are only the tools of the real destroyers of America and they will not be stopped by a rout of Congress or even if Obama is impeached. They will stick to their plan and it is no different than the plans they had fifty years ago. A plan designed and laid out and played out for as long as it takes.
Yes, it will be harder now because some Americans have woken up and see the danger and direction that these evil forces want to take America and the world, but that will not make them stop, but just use more subterfuge and guile.
I will mention that even before I knew of whiskey, I wrote this back in 08:
Little did I understand then that one of the main crisis and distractions that was planned by these “shadow handlers” was the use of racism to split, distract and destroy any resistance to their carefully crafted plans.
Well we know now and I still believe that Obama not only has no clothes but does not and never will “wear the pants” in his racial driven world.
Michele does and she is dead set on using whoever she can to bring down White America. And that suits the Socialist, Marxists group that is powering this destruction of our Republic.
It suits them just fine.
Papa Ray
“She will insure that all of her pent up hatred for white Amrica is soothed. Don’t think that she has the clout? Well, talk to those that know Obama and her, she calls the shots, she leads him around and tells him what to do and when, who to kiss up to and who to ignore. And more.”

The comment by StandYourGround towards the end of the thread seems appropriate.
Is the title an allusion to the possibility of the Democratic party dying and being replaced by its enemy, the Tea party?
The big zero and his cronies are a huge out of control wrecking ball. He and his cronies have caused enormous damage to the USA’s economy, the USA’s credibility and the USA’s military.
I wouldn’t doubt that the big zero will swing his race baiting wrecking ball so carelessly that it whips around his wrecking crane hits and him in the cab. That may bring his reign of destruction to an end.
The faster the big zero is away from the controls the better – be it by his own choice or his own bad luck.
“short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
Will that even help?
Obama has made a point of de-emphasizing the war on terror, of downplaying terrorism itself (‘man-made disasters’) and has claimed that what is needed is more outreach and understanding which he has supplied amply.
Yet, on his watch we had a near miss that did not come off because of a faulty lap bomb. Oh, and then there was the Times Square bomber that succeeded in planting a bomb but only because again the design was amateurish did it fail. Oh, yeah, then there was that mass shooting at Fort Hood which went unfortunately very well…
If a terrorist actually manages to score a hit and hundreds or thousands are again killed, does the public rally around the President, or does he get the stink eye for being such a feckless point man on security? On even just acknowledging the threat? Do they look at him and ask what all his kow-towing, bowing and apology tours have gotten us in terms of goodwill from the fanatics?
Bush got a lot of lee-way after 9/11 because it came seemingly out of the blue and was a shock. In the post 9/11 era, when we have had hundreds of terrorist attacks around the globe, including here, Obama can’t rally people with, “Hey! Thousands of people died due to a man-made disaster! Rally to me! TO ME!”
Sure, the media will give him whatever help they can, but they don’t control the narrative entirely anymore, and even the cracks are beginning to show among them.
Obama would need to display Bin Ladin’s head on a pike on the same day that unemployment drops at least 1 full point to get the kind of turn around you are talking about.
My questions would be will he attack Iran in October, or, well he do a Clinton after the midterms, or, is he as he appears to be–a True Believer (in himself) and continue on as he is.
Morton Doodslag #1-
You are correct. Retribution is the key. Many have called for it, including our dear departed Whiskey AND some of his detractors. It resonates, just below the surface, in anyone who isn’t left of center politically. The idea of meting out justice by economic retribution against the left for their crimes against Western civilization is a great uniter of the center/right, if only a politician had the guts to tap into it.
The next time that a center/right congress and administration is in, they MUST defund the left. Completely. No public sector money AT ALL. Anyone supporting or preaching or praising collectivism and/or cultural Marxism in academia gets their funding and grants cut off forever. Anyone in civil service doing the same loses their job and pension. Ban public sector unions, declare them (correctly) to be a form of treason, and fire those who dare to continue trying to organize, rescinding their pensions.
Do all this, and do NOT give those defunded unemployment or welfare. For life. An added bonus to this will be that so many leftists will be out of work, they can take the jobs that illegal aliens now take (they’ll have to do so to avoid starving) and it will help diminish the illegal immigration problem.
Do to those poisonous ideologies what Truman rightfully did to Naziism at the end of WWII. The American public will go for it in a heartbeat, and those who protest will only make their lot in life worse.
George Bush senior didn’t do this when the wall came down, by far his greatest error. The mandate, and history, are still here. Electing a weak RINO who won’t take this necessary action will allow the beast to walk away and threaten another day. We need someone who will crush this cancer once and for all.
no mo uro , Here, Here! The next Congress will have the power to defund most of the Left’s treasonous crap, and I just hope they’ll have the guts to do it.

I graduated from Columbia before it was taken over by the left.
……….
Whoa now. That dates you. Columbia was an early player in the Manhattan project. So they were not too liberal then. Columbia began a long long losing streak in football about 1960. So in 1959 columbia might have been considered conservative. But thereafter not so much–although you could say that the 60′s & 70′s were a change period. That by 1980 the change over was complete.
I notice a lot of talk here on the “left”, but can anyone point me to a political party on the left in a major industrialized nation that actually cares about the working people? Certainly not the United States’ Democrat party.
If a so-called left party cared about working people, they’d make sure that there were jobs available to them, by not imposing ridiculous rules on Farmers, Foresters and Fishermen and how they can go about their business, not to mention manufacturers. They’d make sure that working-class neighborhoods were safe, even if that meant being politically-incorrect and locking up criminals regardless of their “cultural background”, along with kicking out of a country those people who illegally entered it (by the way, this would also help workers by raising the wages in the areas that those illegally-employed people once worked). Public schools would be held to a high standard, so that a worker wouldn’t have to worry about his children getting the education they need- because he’d know they were. There’d be no talk of “state run daycare”, because all that does is ensure a few thousand of the privileged get daycare spots, and all the lower class workers pay for it in tax dollars. A party who cared about workers would make sure that there’d be enough bread on one salary to allow for alternate care arrangements like one parent staying at home.
There’d be a lot less talk about governmental healthcare spending on things like needle exchanges, “safe injection sites”, taxpayer expensed gender-change operations, and more on the basic care that a worker would need after years of hard labour.
A party dedicated to the workers would make sure they didn’t pay too much in taxes, so that they could get going in their lives. It’d make sure that no corporation got too heavily taxed, either, lest the jobs vanish entirely. It wouldn’t go around spending too much on a handful of government jobs for special interests and grinding down everyone else.
I don’t see any true parties of the left around here- I see a bunch of overgrown college kids busy trying to both run everything and look after their friends at the same time. I see lots of upper-class snobbery and upper-class holier-than-thou acts (oh heavens! Will no one think of the yellow crested snail eating worm darter! Oh my! That poor man is being put in jail for stealing all those little people’s cars! What horror- their insurance should surely cover it, and he shouldn’t be imprisoned for such a petty thing as property theft!), but very little attention to the real concerns of the average worker.
But on reflection, I do see several political positions that do a much better job of looking after the concerns of the average citizen who makes the things that make a nation run- just not on the “left”.
#46 AN
True enough.
But don’t you know, everyone who is not on “the left” is the same as the KKK and the Nazis?
At least, that’s what self-named leftists say and think.
This is a Link to today’s Washington Times article which reports Attorney General E. Holder has announced that the DOJ WILL NOT prosecute “sanctuary cities” for refusing to enforce immigration regulations or laws.
… But he IS proceeding with the DOJ action against Arizona’s immigration law, which has been described by responsible authorities as being based on existing Federal immigration law.
Impeach.
RECALL.
Time for all Governors and Mayors to file lawsuits against the DOJ and Holder in particular.
No other country in the world is criticized by the LEFT in the US for enforcing its frontiers and policing its populace to round up and imprison or deport illegal aliens.
This is NOT just PC; it is a deliberate and fully intentional destabilization of our economy and culture.

I don’t agree. PC is indeed “a deliberate and fully intentional destabilization of our economy and culture.” That’s all its ever been, and that is what it was intended to do.
That is what PC is and has ever been, plain and simple.
Lee Harris, who wrote “Civilization and its Enemies” after 9/11, has an interesting riposte to David Brooks’ attacks on the Tea Partiers:
http://american.com/archive/2010/march/weak-tea-or-strong-tea
And he has published a new book entitled: “The Next American Civil War: the populist revolt against the liberal elite”. It is a very good book, and in my opinion, well worth reading!
Joshua @6,
Yes, some of us remember it very well. For those following and remembering details, it was among Hillary’s supporters, and not Republicans that the the whole “Birther” controversy surfaced. Don’t forget the PUMAs. But instead of mounting an independent challenge or just sitting it out, Hillary chose to sell aut and support Obamandias in exchange for a seat at the table. Having abandoned righteoussness for a share of power, she hocked her claims to integrity, and now is revealed like too many others, just a sorry political prostitute. Thus vanishes any real claim to moral authority. And her subsequent actions destroy her claim to judgment. All she has left is the claim that she would be another “first”. Would Americans still be interested in gambling for dubious historical milestones?
Charles @*
Her PUMAs might not be silenced, but will they be taken seriously, after her “Grand Compromise”?

The Anchoress apparently thinks “The Rodham” is just waiting to pounce:
“She is entirely capable of waiting through Obama’s presidency, saying nary a word against him, and then trouncing him soundly in the 2012 primaries. That is what The Rodham does: she waits, she watches, and she learns, and then she wins.
Once upon a time Hillary’s ideal ticket back to the White House might have read Clinton/Obama, but that got screwed up by over-anxious people who saw charisma and popularity and decided they could win on nothing more. Well, they could. Then they discovered they couldn’t govern on a wink and a smile, and a middle-finger-face scratch.
Hillary has waited and will wait. She’s taken plenty for the party, and remained loyal; that has been noted. In the interim, she has actually made independents, centrists and even some conservatives who had previously declared that they would cut off their hands before casting a vote in her direction, look at her with something like longing. They’ve decided they would have preferred her, 1000 times, over the relentless reformer in the White House and his whip-cracking wife.”

Thoughts/reactions?
Wretchard continues to do a singular service for an extended community. It’s clearly a trans-national community he attracts, in that it comprises people from a number of nations. But it’s made up mostly of people satisfied that while the trans-national Socialist progressives have failed spectacularly with their schemes, the Westphalian system of sovereign nation states continues to produce a robust and generally wholesome international community.
I am guilty here of posting a lot of alarmist and pessimistic comments, for which I apologize.
It doesn’t take a lot of insight or wisdom to pierce the veil of a lot of scams, whether they are petty or grand. But you have to be willing to trust your judgment, take off the blinders, and finally to ACT.
We must act resolutely, but with great restraint. I do not advocate violent acts, but I do advocate determined and vigorous resistance to the daily violations of established legislation, precedents, regulations, and legislative procedures by people who were elected to serve finite terms, and who swore to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution.
The Marxist radicals currently misruling the U.S. give hourly evidence of commitment to policies so outrageous to the majority that they are clearly intended to provoke violent reaction. These delusionals truly believe they have the right, and they truly believe they have the wisdom and means to control and direct whatever passions and energies they unleash by their provocations.
In this, as in everything else, they are children playing with unexploded ordnance.
The French revolution contrasts horribly with the U.S. Maybe it’s more comparable to the U.S. “Civil War.” A prominent aspect of the French Revolution is the momentum that took over the vengeful bloodletting. Thousands of people beheaded in front of cheering crowds… everyone seems to know about that. But fewer seem to be aware of other atrocities far greater, such as the suppression of the Catholics (protesting the harsh treatment of their priests) and allied Royalists in the Vendeé coastal region south of the river Loire. Republican forces sent during 1793-95 to put down these “counter-revolutionaries” are estimated to have killed between 117,000 to 450,000 men, women, and children – at any rate, some 15 percent of the region’s population – over a period of just about two years.
Once the bloodletting begins, it takes on a life of its own.
In particular, people always use the chaos of civil strife and upheaval as an opportunity to settle old scores and grievances, real and imagined.
I invite readers to do a search on the name “General François Joseph Westermann.”
54 @ Rurik:
Hillary had “claims to integrity” and a “real claim to moral authority”? Wow. I completely missed that.
She did get screwed in the caucases, and did win more primary votes than BHO, but she had no Plan B when her coronation plan was disrupted by the entrance of BHO, and she could not adapt. Her rigidity is her greatest handicap as a politician. See this.
Just remember, ever since Lenin’s success with the tactic of Revolutionary Defeatism.
As the slogan had it, The Worse the better
Hillary and Michelle both seem to have been appointed as handlers of their respective husbands to be, perhaps from the same authority. Hillary’s passive response to outrageous campaign violations imply that she had orders to stand down and perhaps take command of the following watch.
BTW the Republican party’s ineptness could be explained by serious infiltration. The one world government agenda of Maurice Strong, George Soros and even Bushe pere and fils might be well served by the wreckage of the present administration.
Are you kidding me? Wouldn’t this sounding of the alarm serve as prime fund-raising material?
Oh, and what batman (#34) said.
Morton (#1): “the idea that the Persians inherit the spoils is most unfortunate!”
Heh.
PA Cat (#55):
Remember that whole artificial brouhaha regarding Biden and Israel’s construction plans in Jerusalem, and how Hillary spent 45 minutes berating Netanyahu on the phone? Well, someone is now leaking the information that Hillary supposedly made sure to preface all of her rebukes with comments such as “I’ve been instructed to tell you…” Hmm. Cui bono?
Re. # 44. Unsk
“no mo uro , Here, Here! The next Congress will have the power to defund most of the Left’s treasonous crap, and I just hope they’ll have the guts to do it.”
They will have not. Collectivists’ push slow-down will dissolve the opposition.
Mad Fiddler, #56: Once the bloodletting begins, it takes on a life of its own.
In particular, people always use the chaos of civil strife and upheaval as an opportunity to settle old scores and grievances, real and imagined.
One reason behind a point I’ve frequently made here, that if this struggle ever actually comes to a full-blown armed revolt, even if the Left is defeated we still have to guard against ending up with a Cromwell, Robespierre or Lenin at the forefront. I’d prefer another Washington, of course, but that may be too much to ask.
jWarrior @57
The Hildebeeste certainly enjoyed that sort of moral authority and alleged integrity amongst the Dimocrat Party. I’m glad that you don’t buy it; and neither do I. Not since 1992 when I first heard of her.
I for one, am not convinced that a Hildebeeste substitution for the Obamarangutan would be even a slight improvement. A lot of dumb Bolshheviks were releived to see Stalin triumph over Trotsky in the succession struggle, thinking it would mean a more humane continuation of NEP. I think we have a very similar sort of rivalry today.
Michael Barone outlines America’s history, and he does it well. He thinks this is a Jeffersonian moment.

“Progessive” ideals flourish among those who are concerned (and afraid) of masses of people who own no property. Individual rights ASSUMES a majority of property owners. As he says, also, the tea party movement has embraced the original documents of the American ideal: the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
HRC is just a stalking horse for WJC.
It is impossible to believe that Mr. Charm would not be in the saddle with her.
The old ‘two for one’ pitch works twice.
Clioman, others wondering wazzup with the Pubbies on the come. Here’s what i think may be gonna happen: the vacuum that is Obama won’t be filled with a charismatic conservative –too much risk of a repeat. The swing will be toward an idea person, an articulator, an historian with context on the mind, and someone with DC experience. IOW, as much the anti-Obama as is possible –and someone with an actual plan type plan, to boot.
Say hello to President Newt Gingrich.

Also wanted to note that a heart attack commonly leaves a survivor depressed and withdrawn, at least for awhile.
Dick Cheney has had many heart attacks, a half dozen or so, has been fighting heart disease since his mid-30′s, and just today had a new major surgery to help with the congestive heart disease.
Through it all he has worked in an inspired manner, and has maintained an amiable and cheerful demeanor. Dick Cheney is a great American –that’s my opinion, and i’m stickin’ with it.

Also, yesrterday the Calabria Mob was busted all over Italy and Sicily –in a fell swoop, 300 arrests. These guys have been opening new biz with the Latin drug cartel, and have been penetrating the western Europe coke trade. maybe more, dunno yet.
Anyway, today Obama invited Bill Clinton –the man who very nearly and in fact may have turned the entire globe into a unified crime syndicate –into the WH to parley.
Coincidence?
29. Marsh Arab: I would not expect them to reveal their hand early enough for the opposition to adopt it, would you?
32. Clioman: Agree with regard to Steele vs. Palin, just maybe not just yet….
Also, I agree w/ not-so-pro-GOP; I would prefer strongly pro-Constitution voters and perhaps the (agree again, not so clever) GOP would become the Constitutional Republic Party. Hey, I can dream….
43. no mo uro: Don’t forget, EVERYONE needs to pay some tax. No free rides, no zero liability voters (credit to Andrew Wilkow for the ZLV term)
55. PA Cat: Hillary is too real a threat; The GOP needs to push her for more comments to be added to the record and SOON. Then she would have to either speak contrary to her boss and force Obama to fire her or support Obama’s feckless foreign policy. The best defense is a good offense.
Why on earth would anyone support Hillary in a run for President when she has her own healthcare-for-the-poor agenda? I would support her in an effort to impeach the jug-eared SOB currently in the Oval Office, but the instant there is a national election again, I think *all* liberals / progressive will be out out out. That includes Boxer, Pelosi, Reid, and their ilk who are all perceived as having their scurvy hands in the pockets of the American taxpayer while opening the flood gates wide open to terrorists and third-world landscapers who want to come and “live free”, except they mean they want everything for free without having to pay for it.
The *only* Dem politician that I can see who might have any sort of a chance in the next national election is Bill Clinton because he is seen as more of a pragmatist doing what is necessary to keep the ship of state afloat, and not a socialist America-remaker like Obama. If Bill could use his world-class smarts to balance our budget and build a fence along the border, I’d grant him the occasional intern in the back room.
But I’m just not seeing the same sort of smart nor the same sort of pragmatism from Hillary, *and* she allowed herself to be steamrolled by a third-rate Chicago punk who is increasingly showing that his only area of expertise is in what golf club to use.
buddy larsen @66: Are you serious? Newt Gingrich as the anti-Obama? Newt things he is just too sexy for his pants — no I really mean too smart for his britches. Whom did he support in that special election in New York a while back?
His hubris is different from Obama’s to be sure, but he got into big trouble because he fancied himself smarter than Clinton and got his clock cleaned. I don’t want anyone who thinks he is that brilliant, whether he is or isn’t.
I want someone with good judgment, common sense, commitment to a few core principles, a strong dose of humility to accompany equally strong self-confidence. Someone who believes not in inventing something brand new but in strengthening the fundamentals that made America what it once was — the best of the Declaration and the Constitution combined with citizens who were rewarded for their success and an armed forces that would defeat any and all bad guys.
Gingrich is too pompous, too smug, thinks too much of himself and his abilities. He would be a valuable member of a Cabinet but please, not President.
66. buddy larsen & 69. batman:
How about President David Petraeus? We need someone who owes nothing to a party machine, has strong principles and does not need a legacy but is capable of furthering the one he already made. Talk about your George Washington appeal. Would he run if appealed to by a large voting block? One thing is certain, he would have to retire from the military first and that means handing Afganistan over to someone else fairly soon.
66 buddy larsen/ 69 batman: How about President David Petraeus? Talk about your George Washington appeal. We need a strong leader who owes nothing to a party machine, does not need to create a legacy as he already has one and operates through a sense of service and moral certainty. Of course that means he would have to hand Afghanistan over to someone else and retire fairly soon. That was why I was not thrilled he took over from McChrystal.
Well, I’m home after a body breaking, mind numbing day on the front line. Temp was in the mid to high 90s, humidity at 50% plus and I’m beat and still yet have to fix something for the kids to eat as my neighbor didn’t feed them, except for junk food and such. Anyway, I think I did some good today and I got a free meal at one house. So I’m good for today. I’ll hit it again tomorrow and maybe Friday, then take the weekend off.
Jeez, I just realized it is bath night for the girls.
Batman you want someone with humility yet with strong confidence? You have just about wiped out every politician that is alive at this moment for consideration. I like Speakeasy’s suggestion and I know who should be the vice president.
Her first name is Sarah.
But folks we got real trouble in river city. Those along our southern coast may not have to worry about the Islamics, Mexicans and the democrats if this article has any truth to it. Which I don’t profess to know one way or the other. But it makes for interesting reading and I will be sure and bring it up at coffee in the morning with my buds. It will get either a lot of laughs or real discussion. I don’t know which.
Anyway for your perusal and consideration:
OK, to the kitchen.
Papa Ray
P.S. Be sure and read the Salem News link.
you do have a point, batman –he is ‘used’ goods –not exactly the first idea to lead a constitutional restoration. Except –he’s apparently been studying the heck out of just that –how to do it, how to nuts-and-bolts get it done.
>>Me, i’m mad for Miss Sarah, and the Bachmann/Jindal overdrive, too –but i’m gonna listen to Newt -he’s working the policy as we speak –take a look when you can.
And Pawlenty sure does sound good these days –music to my ears, his presentation –
And that big ole fat boy from Joisey ain’t half bad, either –nobody is as quick on his feet with powerful argument and just the right amount of withering scorn, laid on with a smile –pretty powerful dude, old chubby –
SpeakEasy (#70): “How about President David Petraeus?”
That would be great! I love his positions on free speech / campaign regulation, on Church and State, on the Second Amendment, on government spending, on taxation, on cap and trade, on foreign policy in the macro, etc etc etc
NahnCee (#68):
Come on, not all active Democratic politicians are entirely devoid of merit and wholly unattractive. I mean, there’s… uh, wait a minute, uh… there’s Joe Lieberman!
What’s that you’re saying?
buddy (#66):
I wonder how few rational people, no matter their political opinions, would not like to wake up and find out this has all been a nightmare, and that Cheney is president. The phrase “Grown-ups are in charge” comes to mind.
The Dems have shown that they are totally unable to govern without “selling the farm” and I fully expect then to unleash a series of “events” to attempt to “unify”(read scare) the country and rally their base. October will be an interesting month as that’s when the Black Swans migrate.
A HRC presidency would be a disaster of another nature. She has demonstrated almost zero managerial competency in State, and an incoherency of policy that makes me truly wonder if she is still ‘the smartest woman in the world’.
I hoped for an Obama nomination because I thought him an empty suit, and easier to defeat than HRC. I was wrong.
She is a disaster in the making, now and in the future.
Again, nothing accomplished, Israel being beaten severely about the head and shoulders, Iran and the NorKs doing whatever they want, with “I will wave serious papers about in protest” being about the only reaction.
No Thenkee.

Bob:
I found it! It’s entitled “The Jet that Crashed Before Take-off” by Beirne Lay, Jr.
I remember reading it as a kid, and indeed it appears in a Scholastic Books anthology called “Hit Parade of True Flying Stories”. It was apparently first published in Harper’s magazine in September 1957. (You need a subscription to view it online.) Lay has some pretty impressive movie and TV screenwriting credits, too.
I’ve often thought of the story over the years, and when you mentioned it last night, I became determined to find it. I spent a couple of hours in the attic tonight going through boxes of books, and was just about to call it quits when I found it.
rickl (#77):
That must be the one, thanks!
I spent at least two hours last night (and a not inconsiderable amount of time previously) searching for it on the web. I can now reel off information on an astounding number of plane crashes, and I learned that The Cold Equations was “controversial” for some reason, but had no luck in my search, so thanks again.
I recommend it to the rest of the community, if you can find it.
The problem with desperate situations is that desperate people in them do desperate things without real thought as to the long-run consequences. This is why, for example, life guards are trained to NOT rescue drowning people until they stop struggling–they will otherwise, in their terror, drag their rescuer down with them.
Enter the Democrat Elite submarine, diving to crush-depth in the swimming pool of the US public. What would you put past the less-than-ept commanders of said submersible, in their failings to save their political/power lives? I would put nothing past them. Nothing at all.
There is no limits to the evil that such people will do (and we can include many Republicans in that group). My expectations swing to a few extremes:
1) Some enraged and unhinged leftist becomes so bent that they either choose or are directed to attempt assassination. Whether or not they are successful, the social upheavals that follow from the Democratic thug class enable imposition of martial law and delay of elections. This is the Reichstag fire scenario. I say leftist, because its more likely for them to “eat their own” before the situation in the US reaches the civil war point.
2) Obama does nothing and lets the current crop of useful idiot Democrats “die in the fire.” Then, over the next two years he and what’s left of the Democratic party and media spend the entirety of their time blaming the now in-power Repubs/TEAs for anything and everything. It’s an all-or-nothing wager that the US people will be reminded of why they elected Democrats in ’08, and will finally stop squirming on the vivisection table in ’12 and re-elect Obama/Dems, or at least another insider elite like HRC.
3) A natural disaster (man-made or otherwise), facilitated into true crisis by the purposeful bureaucratic smothering of the current regime, blows up and provides the excuse for widespread martial law and etc. per #1. Said disaster might or might not have been tracked by the regime ahead of time and enabled. There is a lot of dice-rolling in this scenario as well, but the Gambler was elected, and apparently doesn’t know there are anything but aces in the deck.
4) Widespread fraud and shenanigans are planned for the election, including legalization of aliens, ballot-stuffing, ACORN-style high-jinx, voter intimidation and etc. No real attempt to conceal it is attempted, because the happy side-effect of an infuriated populace would be, again, martial law in response to civil disturbances.
If I had to put money on it, I would hedge and stick the same amount on #2 and #3.
–JC
PS. Oh wait! I *DO* have to put money on it… only they call it “savings” these days….
On old teacher of mine loved that story about “the inky finger coming out of the sleeve of midnight”, and writing (what Wretch said above) “you have been weighed in the scales and found wanting”. And having written, it moved on.
I think we have some pollies here in Australia racing to keep ahead of the inky finger. They are desperate to “move forward”.
One thing is dead certain –the Obama bunch will lie, cheat and steal votes right to the very limit of what they calculate they can do and still get away with their lives & lucre. It’s not a question of ethics, morality, standards, tradition, respect, countrymanship, bon hommie, patriotism, gratitude for those who’ve died in wars fighting for their freedom to choose to be either statesmen or slimeballs, or anything else along that line. Different categorical imperative –not even the same ballpark (not even “Cominsky”), but something if not wholly new in kind (the ‘precedent’ Clinton ‘rip out their lungs’ doctrine), at least wholly new in degree.
The “audacity of hope we don’t get stopped”.
Copied comment from a previous post, also appropriate here:
I fear that we are not taking account of the fact that Obama and his core supporters will never see that their failures are their own making, they will simply continue to believe they are right and anything that doesn’t work is due to a dishonest, racist, etc. opposition.
Exactly what Stalin believed… anything that went wrong, no matter how big or small, must be due to sabotage.
And if I may join wretchard in mixing my metaphors, we are headed for a constitutional crisis in 2011 and a 2012 election that will resemble Germany in 1930 as the DoJ gives the green light to all manner of vote fraud and intimidation (read, street thugs beating people) as long as it is of teh approved results. The liberals will NOT go quietly, any more than did the Nazis who had manifestly lost WW2 by September 1944, but made the last few months the bloodiest of the whole war.
If the American polity survives, liberalism will be discredited for a generation… but it is NOT a given that a democratic republic will survive this challenge.
I wish the GOP would get its head out of its ass and start a serious program of capacity building to challenge the Dems and esp the libs on voting issues—registration, purging the rolls of dead and ineligibles, pass laws requiring I.D. to vote and greatly tightening up on absentee and early voting, poll watchers supported by squdrons of attorneys and hired muscle if necessary—someone has to keep the SEIU purple shirts from beating and intimidating people. Assume the Dems will do anything they think they can get away with to steal the 2012 election (not to mention 2010 in many places), and do everything possible to thwart that. And, probably too late, but the GOP should have made a major strategic commitment to winning the key state-level races that will determine the 2012 redistricting. But I have no confidence the GOP leadership is capable of strategic thought, it’s just polls and focus groups. The GOP has still brought a knife to a gun fight as far as I can see.
What panics Pelosi is the realization that she’s a lame duck. If the Democrats lose the House, and she thus loses the Speakership, then her ability to reward friends and punish those who cross her comes to an end.
And all the people who she’s spat on over the last few years will have a chance for revenge…
Smarter folks than I are complaining in conversations that they don’t see the Republicans DOING ANYTHING.
But that’s not really true. While they aren’t particularly showing an excess of spine, a few are actually trying to defy the Democrat juggernaut. But you wouldn’t know about it unless you do searches on the net, visit Drudge, or other nutball fringe geekydweeb kook news source that marks you as a secret wearer of aluminum foil skullcaps.
Very simply, the media from national networks to local affiliates and even most independents, REFUSE to provide any coverage of Republicans unless it’s on some issue or gaffe the editors think can be spun to HURT public perception of Republicans. This tactic has persisted long enough to qualify as a strategy. They may as well include it in their corporate prospecti.
That bears directly on JCinKZ’s 4th point in #79 above. Look at the case of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation and criminal policy of Obama/Holder’s DOJ refusal to pursue that or any other prosecution of minorities for violations under the civil rights laws…
The MSM have conspired so effectively to suppress that story that even an incumbent Congressional Representative Brad Sherman is defending his ignorance of the issue by pointing out that NONE of the Mainstream news sources he regularly reads had run ANY stories about the case. For anyone who doubted the Media’s criminal conspiracy, that should at least get their attention.
In the 2010 elections and even more so in 2012, we can expect the MSM to continue to aide and abet any and all criminal behavior of the Democrats while demonizing the conservatives just as they have for the last four or five decades.
We are on our own, my friends.
Not because we choose defiance of legitimate authority, but because we maintain faith with the principles, oaths, and Constitution that remain – regardless of the depraved criminality of so many current incumbents – as the Supreme Law of this Land.
Whatever else you do to encourage like-minded folks to participate and vote, I recommend that when you vote in November, go to the polls IN GROUPS large enough that a handful of cowards like the well-documented Philadelphia goons will not present a problem.
Keep your cell phone cameras running all the while, and maintain your own civility and composure.
If we don’t stop these tyrants at the ballot box, they will be shortly bursting in the front door to round up those who are “politically unreliable.”
Remember that when William Jefferson Clinton sent black-uniformed and masked INS agents, armed with submachine guns, bursting into an apartment in the pre-dawn darkness forcibly to take 10-year-old Elian Gonzales into custody, the LEFT applauded this act. Just as they had applauded Ruby Ridge and Waco.
fiddler, since you –and bogie wheel too –are graphics and film mavens, i wanted to point out some weirdness i’m just catching on to:
It started a few weeks ago, drudge (iirc) had a blurb on a huge statue of Egyptian god Anubis being installed at the Denver International Airport.
The linked story referred to another large statue there –a “controversial” (so said the text) blue mustang horse locals have nicknamed “Blucifer”.
So, i goes to search to get a look-see, and find the craziest looking art all over the place –along with multiple blogs on strange doin’s in the mid 90s construction of the place. All the NWO speculative stuff can be discounted but the art there can’t –tho many are trying to explain it –including “Vigilant Citizen”.
I spent a lifetime laughing at people who noticed these things. Now, all the recent (*cough*) Big Political Projects have got me…ah, “concerned”. So here’s my question: should i go see a shrink, or should i buy more ammo?
I mean, really !
