Amateur hour
The Internet constantly introduces us to people whose existence we would never have suspected. Talent that would never have made it past the gatekeepers can always schedule a performance on YouTube, the world’s largest stage. Whether you are three guys in an apartment who’d like to walk 500 miles or a someone who walks in on a scene at the Sopranos or a Malaysian girl who has made the whole universe her cultural context from Sarawak, it’s a vast virtual world in which our avatars encounter one another and occasionally pull in the real people they represent after them. If it’s true that on the Internet nobody knows if you’re a dog; it’s also true that everyone sooner or later learns if you have talent.
BTW. There’s a new meetup being announced at the Belmont Club in Houston Twitter site. Meet the avatars in person.

What’s amazing is how things get around.
Habu posted here a letter from friend in Montana describing the President’s recent visit there.
And a few days later I received that same letter from a friend of mine, an housebound lady in Florida.
A few years back I wrote a piece for a website on how the Space Shuttle had affected the launch industry. A friend of mine later visited an NRO office and saw someone there reading a printed copy of it.
Stuff sure gets around. That is good and bad. The Planet X doomsday nonsense of several years back would have never been known otherwise. Women receiving mental messages from space aliens about planetary doom do not have much credibility – unless it comes over a computer screen. And most of the Planet X nutcases were in fact Y2K nutcases who were disappointed in being proved wrong – and that nonsense itself spread in no small part due to the Internet.
RWE @ 2 – Yeah, my parents emailed me that same letter within just a few days. A very compelling letter, too, BTW, which accounts for its popularity. Quality – good or bad – quickly becomes obvious in the light of publicity – huh, Mr. President?

GRANDMOTHER’S Stepping Up
Dumbass amateurs
C4: Haha…great stuff. Too funny.
It is when those grannies turn out their whole clans that things get interesting.
Few will indulge in cowardice before their grandmother.

This ought to be a good thread to collect Twitter names from BC tweeps. It is #followfriday, after all.
Some tactical/kinetic discussions not suitable for TBC might be more secure on Twitter DM. More secure than open forum, anyway.

Well here’s my contribution to amateur hour. Ventor & Church are saying accelerated evolution is in works. There will be a lot of consequences. I’m interested in how this stuff will affect water & power production.
Superfast Evolution Will Acclerate Demand For Water
Pardon me for this segue back to 5G – I hope it isn’t too off topic for the current thread.
Swarming Tactics, the Battle of Midway and the need for main force/conventional units:
Victor Davis Hanson’s attempt to fit Midway into the framework of a close quarters infantry clash a la Greek Hoplites never quite worked for me. It seemed that Midway was more a case of what VDH would call “barbarian swarming tactics”. Unintentionally, these tactics succeeded in getting inside the OODA loop of the Japanese fleet.
U.S. forces attacked the Japanese fleet sporadically over a period of approx. 3 hours using assorted weapons and tactics. These included high altitude bombers, land based bombers equipped with torpedoes for the first time (with crews untrained for this type of mission) and slow obsolete torpedo bombers from aircraft carriers. At the end of these attacks, we had lost 41 planes and had scored ZERO hits on the enemy.
Ten minutes later, after U.S. carrier based dive bombers had arrived at a serendipitous moment, 3 Japanese carriers were burning and the Japanese Navy, although still powerful, was pretty much finished as an offensive force.
We can’t possibly know when those “dive bombers” will arrive or what form they will take. But if us “amateurs” keep swarming long enough, I’m pretty sure they will once again show up at a serendipitous moment.
Hello all,
Here is my contribution to amatuer hour, if I knew how do video and sound editing I’d make it into a youtube video. These fools need more ridicule..
The short summary of Fascism provided by that Marine at the townhall in Washington state where he ends by pointing out that pelosi should check her own arm for swastikas would be a great lead in…

F Lambda,
If that gets on youtube with a decent performance it will go viral.
Alas it can’t get there by my efforts, I have no clue how to paste together sound and/or video ;(
Perhaps someone else with those skills can pick it up and run with it…maybe Glenn Beck lurks here???
I’m just trying to do my little 5G part…

Keep at it. I’m going thru a similar exercise, trying to find a graphics guy to work along with my text-only stuff.
BTW – Sen. Majority Leader Reid announced that Card Check will NOT be voted on this year.

Things are moving VERY fast.
Don’t stop swarming!
Better do it fast-like, F Lambda. It looks like Rockefeller has finished up the redo of that noxious “give emergency control of the internet to Lord Zero” bill… if you haven’t seen the update, CNet has the details.
Drudge has a link on his page.
I seem to recall that one of our own had mentioned setting up an outside-the-’Net communications system… can’t recall who it was… might be time to start thinking seriously along those lines.

Sheriff Admits Fault in Kidnapping Case
Law enforcement authorities were in Phillip Garrido’s house at least twice in the last three years, but never discovered that a young woman he had allegedly abducted 18 years ago was living there along with the two children he had fathered with her, the sheriff of Contra Costa County said on Friday.
At a news conference on Friday, Sheriff Warren E. Rupf said he accepted responsibility for failing to rescue the victim sooner and offered an apology. He recounted that a woman had called 911 in November 2006 to report that Mr. Garrido had “a tent in his backyard, that there were people living in them and there were young children,” Mr. Rupf said outside his offices in Martinez, Calif.
“The caller also said that Garrido was psycho and had a sexual addiction,” Mr. Rupf said. A deputy who was sent to investigate the complaint talked with Mr. Garrido, but left the property after concluding it was nothing more than “a code violation,” the sheriff said. The deputy was not aware that Mr. Garrido was a registered sex offender and was on parole, Mr. Rupf said, even though Mr. Garrido had registered as a sex offender, as required by law.
“I’m the first in line to offer organizational criticism and offer my apologies to the victim and accept responsibility for having missed an earlier opportunity to rescue Jaycee,” Mr. Rupf said, referring to Jaycee Dugard, who was abducted by Mr. Garrido and his wife, Nancy, authorities have charged. The sheriff said that he had apologized to the family of Ms. Dugard, who was abducted at the age of 11 as she was about to board a school bus near her home in South Lake Tahoe.
“This is not an acceptable outcome,” he said. “Organizationally we should have been more inquisitive or curious and turned over a rock or two.”
“My criticism is of us organizationally, and not of the deputy,” Mr. Rupf said, acknowledging that the deputy should have asked more questions of Mr. Garrido. He said, there are “absolutely no excuses. We should have had a better result.”
A young friend reminded me that mosquitos heading to the bug zapper are technically “moving forward”. Idea would make a good visual.
