The NYT reports how Republican Senators who refuse to get with the Obama stimulus package will be targeted on television.
WASHINGTON — Senator Judd Gregg awoke to the bad news on Thursday morning that a coalition of Democratic groups had planned to run television advertisements in his state to pressure him to support President Obama’s economic recovery plan. …
It isn’t that President Obama needs the votes. He just aims to fulfill his promise that he will get bipartisan support. If television attack ads are necessary to make everyone a big happy family, then so be it.
Given Democrats’ majority margins in the House and Senate, Mr. Obama is expected to get the stimulus measure he wants. But he also wants some Republican support in keeping with his separate campaign promise to change Washington’s polarized ways. In his latest overture, Mr. Obama invited senators from both parties to the White House to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, the eve of the Senate debate. …
Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, said both Senate and House Republicans should be worried about appearing as obstructionists. Mr. Plouffe said of Republican opposition, “It’s almost as if the election didn’t happen and that the message wasn’t received: that people in Washington need to cooperate a lot more than they have in the past.”
Is life is like football, a game of inches? Or is the vote on the stimulus package really like another kind of train, where guilt must be shared?

Opposition to the Bail-out bill in the House had bi-partisan support!
Support for the bill, however, was partisan as only Dems voted for it!
That’s one reason they’re pushing Senate Republicans so hard!
The Democrats demonstrated how to freeze Mr. Bush out socially, not responding to any overtures. I wonder if, now, the Republicans will be equally frosty to Obama’s stupid Super Bowl invitation.
They should be.
Just because Obama wants non-partisanship, why on earth does he think he or the rest of his liberal buddies have earned any sort of fealty at all from either DC Republicans or Republican voters around the country who are being overlooked and trampled in the rush to give pork to the Chicago “in” crowd and welfare blacks.
Seven years ago, Leftists screamed “Not In My Name!” Well, isn’t turnabout fair play? Why should the opposition become responsible for the mistakes of the Obama administration? And why should the opposition cave in to the rage of Obama’s screaming maniacs?
If Barack Obama were ever serious about reaching across the aisle, he wouldn’t go looking for a photo opportunity with Republican leaders to showcase his “reaching out”. Instead, he would use back channels and seek to calm the waters on questions such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research. He might also seek to reassure our allies abroad that his foreign policy won’t be erratic.
How, given that Barack Hussein Obama is making recommendations on which “talk show hosts” to not listen to, he may wish to consider that if he wants to get anything done with Republicans in Congress, he and his staffers would do well to stop listening to Rachel Maddow. Remember, isn’t turnabout fair play?
The argument is usually that Liberals are more effective at political infighting because that is where their interests really are. The problem for conservatives in general and Republicans in particular has always been that their hearts weren’t really in it. Deep down they suspected that they were only indulging in politics because they weren’t busy doing something more important. The bad news for the Democrats is that the economic crisis they manufactured to get Obama elected has proven to be spectacularly successful. The conservatives now see their backs against the wall and have to climb into the political pit and fight to survive.
Plouffe’s comments are the kind of flak that should tell the Republicans they’re getting close to the target.
Dear Leader’s definition of bipartisanship is probably about the same as Uncle Joe’s. Since the reeducation camps cannot be built until Acorn gets its billions Dear Leader, for now, will have to settle for stuffing the opposition into a gulag of scorching editorials.
The MSM will carry the obstructionist water for Dear Leader on the front page and in their editorial pages, but even the most coopted news hounds will still feel compelled to get a sound byte from the victim. If the targeted Repubs use their sound bytes wisely and effectively paint the “stimulus” bill as the fraud it is then Dear Leader could end up with a public opinion crisis he may not be able to handle.
Call you Senators and tell them that you will donate your last nickel to whoever runs against them in the next election if they don’t get the pork out of this legislation.
One thing is for sure – Dear Leader’s war against conservative talk radio will step up a few notches in intensity.
The Dems must not be very confident of the chances of their plan’s success if they have to resort to bullying the opposition.
Peter @6: “…stuffing the opposition into a gulag of scorching editorials.” Very nice metaphor, Peter. Very nice.
The Dems must not be very confident of the chances of their plan’s success if they have to resort to bullying the opposition.
Exactly! Obama wants to be able to blame the Republicans if it doesn’t work.
Listen, friends: Hussein Obama does Not Want Bipartisanship.
He wants Total, Abject, Grovelling, Forelock-Pulling, Genuflecting Surrender.
His idea of working together? “Do EVERYTHING my way and we’ll get along FINE. On your feet, or on your knees!”
All this buncombe about bipartisanship is the merest fig leaf. He revealed his stupid, slimy tactics in his “auto”biographies: just tell Whitey anything he wants to hear, in an oh-so-reasonable, non-threatening tone of voice, and he’ll be So Relieved you’re not an “angry black man” that he’ll do just about anything you say.
He makes my skin crawl. The Republicans have to stand against the Red tide, because that’s what this is. This guy isn’t a garden-variety nuisance Democrat. He’s an out-and-out Marxist. And a very, very slick hustler.
“Gulag of scorching editorials!” I love it!
P.J. O’Rourke is right: it’s time to stop striking with the flat of the blade.
“Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, said both Senate and House Republicans should be worried about appearing as obstructionists.”
Campaign manager? Didn’t the campaign end two months ago. Oh wait. This must be the campaign to save America or some other nonsense.
The Dems shouldn’t worry. They’ll get what they want and own the consequences.
Agree with all foregoing but particularly like “gulag” metaphor. Well done. Are GOP Senators truly so stupid they will allow themselves to be driven like that? (Don’t answer that…).
We need some grassroots campaigning on the order of
A Trillon Dollars to plant ACORNs?
Fox: GOP Congressman Intros “Rangel Rule”
The legislation calls for the creation of what he calls the, “Rangel Rule,” — drawing attention to the recent legal issues of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., enabling citizens who fail to pay taxes on time to do so later with no additional fees.
Rangel, who writes the country’s tax policies, acknowledged last fall that he failed to pay thousands in real estate taxes for rental income he earned from a property in the Dominican Republic.
As of September 2008 the Harlem Democrat reportedly paid back more than $10,000 in taxes but that did not include any IRS penalties.
“Your citizens back home should have the same rights and benefits that come to you as a member of congress. You shouldn’t be treated any differently under the law than your citizens back home,” Carter said.
He added that citizens should receive the “same courtesy” that the IRS is allegedly granting Rangel and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, who also recently acknowledged a failure to pay taxes.
Carter penned a letter to Rangel earlier this month requesting that he either pay the IRS fees or join him in co-sponsoring the legislation establishing the rule.
“As Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, I believe you set an example for all American taxpayers in your dealings with the IRS, and that you must do so in a way that enforces blind justice without regard to wealth or status,” he wrote in the January 6th missive.

WT: Stimulus Has Pork for Dem’s Son
This is simple. Republican Senators need to look to their contemporaries in the House and simply do the right thing. If they sway some Democrats, all the better.
This “stimulus” plan hurts almost everybody in the long term.
This Obama cat is one slick bastard. He mixes truth with lies so nobody knows where he’s coming from. Every time I hear a conservative comment that “there’s hope; listen to some of the centrist things he says”, well, it just makes me cringe.
You can’t judge him by what he says – he will say anything to advance his real agenda. Judge him by what he does. Judge him by results.
Reminds me of a certain Mephistophelese.
Judd Gregg has been a Senator for quite a long time. I think he is the last conservative Republican senator in New England (Olympia Snow and Susan Collins are Republicans, but hardly conservative).
With our without supporting the “stimulus package”, he will be targeted for defeat. The message of “target and defeat” will not be lost on a lot of other people, but the demographics of New Hampshire have changed dramatically in the last 15 years.
If he’s going down, I hope he goes down with his back straight, and not bending over.
E. Nigma says:
If he’s going down, I hope he goes down with his back straight, and not bending over.
programmer opines:
When you’re outnumbered by the capering, cavorting, cackling hordes, sometimes all you can do is provide an example. The foam flecked hordes are merely a footnote in history. The songs and stories that serve as examples of greatness are about great men and women standing tall in the face of adversity. The Spartan 300, Horatio at the bridge, the Polish cavalry at the Battle of Vienna, Washington, Stonewall Jackson, McAuliffe at Bastogne, Rush Limbaugh…Rush Limbaugh?????
vb says:
We need some grassroots campaigning on the order of A Trillon Dollars to plant ACORNs?
programmer opines (once again):
A ideology that has to buy votes is not strong. As you say vb, we must provide an ideology that is self sustaining and is so sensible, so uplifting in the true sense of that word, that money cannot buy it, in fact it has to be better than money.
This is a tough row to hoe, but all battles occur uphill and at the intersection of four map sheets. So what is better than money? Opportunity for self improvement offered by capitalism and free enterprise. Conservatives need to spread the wealth. Not the wealth of handouts, but the wealth of knowledge of how to build a business, tend your own garden, and harvest your own rewards. Every small business becomes a sandbag placed in the broken dike of the American economy, repairing the erosion of the Left. This screed brought to you by Mangled Metaphors R Us.
The House needs to perform a backbone transplant on the Senate. If ever there was a time to step up, it is now. This is the one chance to clearly make the coming disaster the sole property of the Democrats.
Any Republican that thinks the Dems will not try to unseat him/her hasn’t been paying attention these last two hundred years of so. Siding with them should not get you aything but the contempt of your party (and probably comtempt from the Dems as well, they are all about conformity and obedience).
The Republicans have to point out that pouring gasoline on a fire is a bad idea. The best way is not to play along.
The Dems have the votes, let them use that power.
Let them bear the responsiblity.
Too bad we all have to live with the results.
let the Democrats have their way. advise them when you think they are misled or wrong but do not block them. When the Democrats policy’s fail it’s all their fault. If the policies succeed take some credit.
“BUT FOR THE LOVE OF THE GREAT SPIRIT DO NOT OPPOSE THEM CAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR FOUR MORE YEARS OF BITCHIN’ MOANIN’ AND CRYIN’ ABOUT HOW THEY AIN’T IN CHARGE AND IT’S ALL BUSH’S FAULT” please let these folks alone.
Flash: all GOP politicians will be targeted.
What totalitarian b@stards these people are, they cannot even have one bit of disagreement. If there ever was proof that these people have complete for the notion of a Republic, this is it.
Barry, you just need to internalize some watercooler counterbattery.
The Republicans need to man up and let the Dhimmicrats ride this pig into the future it no doubt portends. Although we all will be screwed by the results it will at least create a forum for a conservative renewal down the road. The GOP needs to oppose Obama on all but fighting the war on Islamic terror and even then hold his feet to the fire when he goes squishy.
Great. Just great. Now we get ‘struggle sessions’ conducted via mass media. Does he have to wear a dunce cap and write a self-criticism, too.
If the totalitarian streak in this crowd isn’t visible to you yet, well . . .
“Anyvon found not haffing a good time vill be shot!”
One has to admire the hubris of correspondent Lifeofthemindand his curiously chosen pen name, to wit:
Come, come now sir, the Democrats manufactured,/i> the current economic crisis? The roots of this crisis were traced by Joseph Stiglitz and extends back to Reagan. Underlining the mistakes that were made were the myths promulgated by conservatives: trickle down economics, updated to a rising tide lifts all boats, the magic of the marketplace, and of course that the market corrects itself.
The economic crisis is upon us not because of “greed”, but because the regulations which controlled the markets were lifted.
One has to admire the hubris of someone who comes to the BC and quotes Stiglitz. Why not Chomsky or Penn?
We are well aware that, in the minds of those who have failed to digest the overwhelming repudiation of the Stiglitz model of reality, the root of all evil is capitalism and the solution is government regulation. The problem most of us see is that the proposed solution, except in very small doses, has a 100% failure rate to date.
Since this thread seems to be dawdling along, I’ll fill up some white space with more maudlin mangled metaphors mainly mangling marxist meddlesome mediocre maunderings (whew, I didn’t think I was going to make it to the end there, but I did).
How to fight and win (programmer’s version).
People are conservative when they have something to lose and see the liberals actively taking it (their something) away from them.
Thing first) Tell all and sundry in a calm reasonable manner that it is the fault of the liberals and the Democrats that their 401(k) plans are going to heck. Read this site and others to acquaint yourself with enough economic knowledge to make these points stick. Most won’t buy it and will argue. Be Nice. Some will become offensive. Be Nice. It will make some think. What percentage of voters would have turned the tide of election? Get those votes.
Thing second) Where and when you are able, help a small business venture start up. This help can be in the form of advice, money, or maybe a quick piece of software to calculate profit margins. Help where you can. Be Nice. Those new business people will be reluctant to see their profits being taken by government programs.
Thing third) Make a profit from YOUR efforts. Nothing sets a good example like success. but Be Nice.
Thing fourth) To all who will listen, tell them to go and do likewise.
Why Be Nice? Most people, given a choice, would rather spend time with good company than foul mouthed, foam flecked vandals of civilization. Besides, in general, conservatives ARE Nice. It is just built in.
Buddy@ 23: Too funny, can I use that one>
Our Paul: Blinded by the light?
Our Paul writes:
“The economic crisis is upon us not because of ‘greed’, but because the regulations which controlled the markets were lifted.”
I agree that the democrats did not “manufacture” the economic crisis in the sense of researching and planning a policy that would lead to economic recession. That would take forethought.
No, the democrats introduced legislation (e.g. the community reinvestment act) with good intentions that had, as will so often happen, unintended consequences. We can never see all of the possible consequences of legislated incentives. That is the theme of “Freakonomics.”
Ideally legislation would emerge from reasonable, long-range planning. But instead it emerges quickly and inevitably out of a political pressure cooker. The current legislation is a very good illustration: a bill hastily concocted with ingredients from every special interest shopping-list, resulting in a quick-fix, long-term debt piece of legislation with inevitable negative economic consequences down the road. But there’s no discussion of any of the likely negative consequences, e.g. in the expansion of entitlements.
Thought experiment: With whom do you want to entrust your personal bank account? Barack Obama and the democratic party or the bank/financial advisor that you pay to look after your money.
Barack? By all means, go right ahead.
Mark, Legislation almost always emerges from public choice conflicts among politicians and interest groups. We have always had pork but until recently there was an accepted sense that the cost had to paid somehow.
I watched Stiglitz talk to a group of my colleagues years ago. He is a twerp. His wife ran off with a Berkeley econometrics professor and he took that hard. He became a strange sort of partisan economist but he is not against capitalist. He is just another famous (by his academic colleagues) who does know what he does not know.
I just turned off Limbaugh. He was rantimg about how the Maximal Leader was bad mouthing our economy. Rush has no sense about economics and I do not care about football.
Leo about Gulags. Stalin was an evil genius. He used the secret polics that the commies built on the Okrana model. Russia was and still is a backward peasant based society used to central control and powerful police. It is not an easy task to set up the camp system. The O is a lawyer. Pass laws and let the judges go their work. Not so easy.
Many of my undergraduates know how to use our university rules to get around properly doing their work.
I do believe that we are moving to a “have a nice police state” aka the TSA.
Obama thinks so high of his oratory skills he thought he could convince the Repubs in the House to go along with the Porkulus Bill. Obama is starting to learn that not everyone can be swayed by his ‘bi-partisan skills’. So instead they go into attack mode via the old Chicago way. Hope and Change!
How long will it take for the voters to recognize this travesty of a politician? The idea of four more years of this junk sickens me.
“Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, said both Senate and House Republicans should be worried about appearing as obstructionists.”
As if the House Republicans actually could obstruct anything. What the Democrats are afraid of is being held accountable.
Obama has miscalculated (hubris). The bailout is more and more unpopular, particularly with Swing voters (Independents). It looks like the more people know about it, the more they dislike 300 million for Contraception, billions for ACORN vote fraud, and the like.
No one is convinced that the bailout will do anything, and Reps can run on that issue if Obama wants with lots of Robert Reich tapes saying “No White Men allowed” for the bailout. The Race Card plays both ways, and Blacks are only 12.5% of the population. Making the Bailout a “No Whites Allowed” in a deep Recession is a formula for Democratic Defeat.
The White House made that threat and House Reps decided to vote against it anyway, along with 11 Blue Dog Dems.
If Obama wants Senate Republican votes, he has to offer tax cuts and kill the worst Democratic Pork. He does not seem able to do that, so he’ll get opposition and own the whole thing. Which won’t work, and so his threat is empty.
He is using his popularity as a threat. Well, the bailout is opposed by Men (no surprise) and supported by women. That’s the usual Rep-Dem breakdown, so big deal. He’s got nothing and knows it. He owns it, and will have to produce results or fall flat on his face.
What a joke, they are going after any republican that does not tow the O line. Can you imagine if W were in there saying it how the MSM would be crying that W is trying to smack down all those that do not agree wiht him. Saint O is a joke, it is not his skills that are so good but the endless harping by the MSM carrying his water. Read what he has said and you can go back and read a lot of those same words in W’s speeches. Only thing this time is the MSM saying how bi-partisan Saint O. Back when W was in charge they were claiming it was bs and W was going to do what he wanted to anyhow. What changed in the bill since meeting with republicans? Nothing besides the stopping of handing out condoms as job stimulus.
So it begins.
Obama just signed the Libby Ledbetter act ( or was it a Presidential order)? which makes being an employer a liability. It allows fired employees years to sue their former employer for cause.
Why would anybody hire anyone anymore? To be sued by some trial lawyer for alleged phony trumped up misconduct?
Who would want that?
Ya, this is just the ticket to put people back to work. Not!
Welcome to EuroAmerica!
Our only hope is that, as public protests’ swell regarding the bad parts of this stimulus bill, our Senators will do all they can to re-work this TURKEY before we’re all stuck with it !
Now it’s easy to see why Speaker Pelosi didn’t let any Republicans through the ‘ closed door ‘ where this fiasco was being crafted.
She hoped the president would rush it through before WE, the people, knew what it contained.
This is nothing more than a compilation of all the spending bills she was not able to get passed, under the previous administration.
WE ARE BEING TRICKED, USING THE ECONOMIC MESS AS THE EXCUSE !
Please, somebody, anybody, make them slow down, fix this bill, before this pork-fest passes !
Newt overreached when he was speaker. Nancy is doing the same. But her intentions are not mean, like Newt’s! [irony]
The speed with which the Great O and his leadership are proceeding is remarkable. Clinton made some fast moves (gays in the military, health care), got burned, and emerged as Bill 2.0. Does Obama have what it takes to recreate himself if he goes down in flames on the stimulus?
Unsk #36
“Why would anybody hire anyone anymore? To be sued by some trial lawyer for alleged phony trumped up misconduct?
Who would want that?”
Certainly not me. A few years ago I had about 30 employees. Today, I am in a solo practice with no employees. I just got sick of the government taking the side of my employees and saddling me with never ending paperwork and requirements. I wish that I had enough money for the John Galt solution but, alas, I do not.
How’d that stimulus package work out?
“It’s almost as if the election didn’t happen and that the message wasn’t received: that people in Washington need to cooperate a lot more than they have in the past.”
Plouffe should be mindful of that Superbowl business mentioned in the article. The Arizona Cardinals didn’t get the message that they shouldn’t be in the Superbowl. The GOP is still a viable party that has political differences with the Democrats. Did Plouffe NOT get that message?
“”"”"Campaign manager? Didn’t the campaign end two months ago.”"”"”"”
No. Democrats, and especially Obama loyalists and grass-roots groups, are in constant campaign mode. Obama has a standing army of political operatives ready to move when asked. The whole business of political ads against recalcitrant GOP Senators is very telling and sobering.
Just checking in to register two thumbs up for Programmer (#28), alliteration and all.
Best wishes,
Jim
I.N.S.A.N.I.T.Y.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is extremely frustrated with orders that the White House is contemplating. According to sources at the Pentagon, including all branches of the armed forces, the Obama Administration may break with a centuries-old tradition.
A spokesman for General James Cartwright, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, states that the Obama Administration wants to have soldiers and officers pledge a loyalty oath directly to the office of the President, and no longer to the Constitution.
“The oath to the Constitution is as old as the document itself.” the spokesman said, “At no time in American history, not even in the Civil War, did the oath change or the subject of the oath differ. It has always been to the Constitution.”
The back-and-forth between the White House and the Defense Department was expected as President George W. Bush left office. President Obama has already signed orders to close Guantanamo and to pull combat troops from Iraq. But, this, say many at the Defense Department, goes to far.
“Technically, we can’t talk about it before it becomes official policy.” the spokesman continued. “However, the Defense Department, including the Secretary, will not take this laying down. Expect a fight from the bureaucracy and the brass.”
Sources at the White House had a different point of view. In a circular distributed by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, the rationale for the change was made more clear.
“The President feels that the military has been too indoctrinated by the old harbingers of hate: nationalism, racism, and classism. By removing an oath to the American society, the soldiers are less likely to commit atrocities like those at Abu Ghraib.”
“We expect a lot of flak over this,” ! the clas sified memo continues. “But those that would be most against it are those looking either for attention or control.”
The time frame for the changes are unknown. However, it is more likely that the changes will be made around the July 4th holiday, in order to dampen any potential backlash. The difference in the oath will actually only be slight. The main differences will be the new phrasing. It is expected that the oath to the Constitution will be entirely phased out within two years.
2×4: Do you have the link for that? (thanks)
Obstructionists, like in 1862?
Jack
Did I just read “the Obama Administration wants to have soldiers and officers pledge a loyalty oath directly to the office of the president, and no longer to the constitution.” My jaw is somewhere south of Del Rio.
#46 That rumor is apparently incorrect.
Google is not our friend!
I just did a quick web search using Google, Yahoo.ca, Altavista with this quote from #43: “The oath to the Constitution is as old as the document itself.” Which is a direct pickup from the post. The results are quite telling. Google returned 4 results and none of them were from Free Republic whereas the others returned Free republic links in addition to others. Google returned exactly 4 results.
I guess this figures given how close the google boys & girls (but especially the big boy) were to the Obama campaign and now to the administration.
This is truly scary. (Of course, if #43 is correct, that is terrifying in and of itself.) For google is the #1 search engine used in the information age. They have cozied up to the commies in China which is bad enough, but now, censoring the information stream in free countries? That is quite beyond the pale. And scary for he who control the information controls the republic!
Bear this in mind. Reject your google habit. I am making the conscious effort to never use them or their products again.
Spread the word. google is not our friend.
Thank goodness, at least for the moment.
That rumor is apparently incorrect.
I should hope so.
#47 Wretchard: A polite question: how do you know the “rumor is apparently incorrect?”
This oath rumor topic is echoing on the “Powers that Be” thread. We should only repeat ourselves when we have eaten radishes.
#51 Blackfive (http://www.blackfive.net/main/2009/01/oaths-changing.html) apparently asked the military directly and was told it wasn’t true.
“We expect a lot of flak over this,” ! the clas sified memo continues. “But those that would be most against it are those looking either for attention or control.”
Somebody has a highly refined sense of humor.
#53 wretchard: thank you. That makes me feel a lot better.
Time to read/re-read “Liberal Fascism.”
I always thought the argument Plouffe is making about votes to be silly when directed at other elected officials—the people he is talking at (I won’t say “to”) also won their elections, and in a very hostile year, so to suggest they should now not act as their voters expected them to is way patronizing.
This was all predictable, it has always been Obama’s style—he makes a show of listening, but he is not looking for compromise, he is looking for weakness he can exploit. No record of ever actually doing anything substantively bipartisan (as opposed to posing as bipartisan).
For those not in the know, Hitler made the German Army swear a direct oath of loyalty to him.
I’m sure people would believe it of Obama, and more to the point that Obama would try something like that. He’s already demanding a creepy cult of Kool-Aide drinkers, many of them celebrities.
When/If he tries something like that, it could provoke an open revolt by the Military, and possibly impeachment. It seems the worst thing happened to Obama: he won.
Now he has to deliver, and he can’t even run the railroad properly. Not even deliver Clinton-era competence, in a time when chaotic threats and American power/will are combining to provide existential threats: nuclear proliferation and world-wide terrorism.
This whole “stimulus” package seems to have odd overtones.
First, it’s supposed to “stimulate“. Apparently so much so that it had to contain measures for contraceptives (now removed) and STDs.
Worse, is that now that zero Republican votes won’t work in the Senate, they have the group “Americans Coming Together” putting up ads in key states.
Is this a pattern ?
chris in Toronto — Google is your friend. It can help to keep others from noticing lazy stupidity such as your question #52 displays. (And just because you used the word “polite” to cover your ass, it was still rude.)
I ‘ve got to give kudos where they are due- My congressman, Howard Berman, who I once thought was a liberal Democrat in the common usage, and who represents most of working Hollywood, – half the Hollywood Hills, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Toluca Lake, Valley Village and a fair amount of the Valley, not only voted consistently for the war and the war funding, he was one of the eleven democrats who voted against the socialist crap sandwich stimulus package. That ‘s guts!
I wish him well, but boy are the long knives are going to be out for him. Too bad there’s not more like him.
Unsk: No: Pelosi had the votes. She gave those guys dispensation so they could save face–and their seat.
So you may have a reasonably voting dem, but it does not matter. Watch what happens when his vote is a tipper. Then you will know the measure of the man.
Neo: yes it is call a “Communist Front Organization”. Nobody is up or election this year. they should ignore it. If these are in your district, call the congressman or the Senator concerned and tell him to ignore tis.
Neo @ 59, and don’t forget, those are all part of what Pelosi is calling America’s “Nude Erection”. she’s saying it a whole bunch, too!
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/01/us/politics/01gregg.html?_r=1
It appears Senator Gregg is now the leading candidate for the Secretary of Commerce position. If he accepts, his replacement will be chosen by New Hampshire’s Democrat governor, all but assuring the Democrats of a 60 vote filibuster proof majority in the senate.
It seems that the advertising campaign mentioned by our host was a strong-arm tactic designed to elicit his cooperation, or else.
So the Lord Obama is sending out techno-Brownshirts…how unsurprising. Somehow, he believes that elections are “winner take all” or that he was elected by unanimous acclamation.
If Senator Gregg takes the Commerce job under those circumstances, he is a disgrace.
GOP Senators’ conundrum:
Vote against the Dems and they’ll target you at election time.
Vote with the Dems and they’ll have their minions (“Oh, we can’t control them. It’s a free speech thing, ya know.”) target you at election time.
There’s more than enough evidence the last 8 years that “go along to get along” is a one way street.
we must support the squatter in the white House!
“Come, come now sir,…
The economic crisis is upon us not because of “greed”,….”
I redacted the unnecessary parts of OP’s pronouncement to the idiots.
My response: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAHAHAHHAAHAHA
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA’ BREATH,

@Nahncee, NO ONE should be above providing citation for something they submit as fact. And to do so is not rude. Opinions not so much. Yes, Chris could have googled and not wasted bandwidth. But not all of the people have your level of Googlefoo.
Politely,
Jim
If Obama doesn’t need GOP votes why the strong arm tactics? Probably because there are enough dhimmies to realize their political careers could be on the line if they vote for this abortion.
Mongoose, others:
It’s about building support for your position. The house vote may have injected some spine into the splineless Senate Republicans. Those House Bluedog votes provide cover. Berman’s vote is courageous because he represents a whole lot of Hollywood radical leftists who get TV face time, and can easily ridicule him on TV.
Democrats Kent Conrad and Bill Nelson are now against the house version of the Stimulus package. So are McCain and Collins of the Rino faction. And now Gregg says he won’t take the Cabinet post unless he is replaced by a Republican.
The first Marxist – Traitor President needs to twist arms because he may not have 60 votes for cloture. With Conrad and Nelson defecting, he needs four Rino votes, and Mc Cain and Collins look like their voting against. Where are those four votes- they may not be there.
What this means is that the Republicans may get some real tax cuts and ACORN may not get their $4billion payoff.
The fat lady isn’t singing yet on the stimulus package.
It doesn’t matter if they are targeted – there is plenty of time before the next election. They will be better off if they stick to their guns and just do the right thing. What they have to realize is that they can’t fight something with nothing: they will need an alternative plan that has more than just the standard tax cuts. One that can attract some democratic support as well. Maybe some big, green infrastructure projects?
Founder of ACORN is Wade Rathke, who, like William Ayers, was a member of the Students for a Democratic Society.”
“Barack Obama paid ACORN more than $800,000 via one of their hundreds of subsidiaries operating out of the same address.”
ACORN was one of several left-wing organizations that developed to impact community organizing. Others are as follows: Industrial Areas Foundation, Citizen Action, National People’s Action, PICO, DART, and the Gamaliel Foundation. Also connected to the socialist NEW Party, in chicago, that had Obama as a signed member.
Wade Rathke, founder of ACORN, was forced out the organization after his brother, Dale Rathke, embezzled more than $948,000.
And Pelosi and house dems and Obama want to pay ACORN 6 Billion in the stimulus??? WTH??
It’s for “neighborhood stabilization” says the bill. Six billion is mighty cheap to get our neighborhoods stabilized. Maybe it means, ‘hand out six billion to the guys who plan to destabilize the neighborhoods unless they get six billion’ –?
Corruption all around, says, emergency, need to jump off this cliff right NOW! Don’t even think about thinking about it.
Cowards! Selling our future, empowered by corruption and news without clues.
Scores of hundred of billion dollar, from foreign lands, slithering from hand to hand. Talking thru TV sets, newspapers, congressmen; a drumbeat demanding that we devalue our dollar and borrow more money from our _friends_ around the world in order to save _their_ #1 consumer market. That’s what we bring to the table, and yah our managers are deeply concerned that we’re slowing down on those purchase orders; requesting more of their products which used to be manufactured here.
Our strength is our purchase which the smart foreigner dollars know won’t last; just long enough for their current enrichment and empowerment. Once the life has been sucked dry it will be tossed aside.
