It is too sordid, too tabloid, too trashy, too much like a bad reality-show — only it’s real.
I am talking about the Tiger Woods non-scandal. Alas, there is nothing unusual about what Tiger has done. This state of affairs (literally speaking) is routine, epidemic, and ancient. Johns are men — and to a John, women are either whores or wives. Mainly whores. Yes, there are many exceptions, but this is the rule. I am talking about the multi-billion dollar industry of prostitution (which in my book is not a victimless crime). The prostituted girl or woman is usually the victim.
But not always.
Tiger’s girls (all seemingly Caucasian, mainly blondes) are proud that he chose them, proud of the emails he sent their way, proud to have had sex with him for money — perhaps sometimes for no money, just for the thrill of it. These girls are not jilted lovers. They are professional prostitutes, celebrity wannabees, trying to trade on their youth and on their surgically perfected looks to become “somebody.” What else can they do? They are young, there are countless more where they came from, they age quickly. Some of these women are cocktail waitresses, event planners, restaurant managers, lingerie models, all-purpose models; some are porn stars (!), career prostitutes, and some are pimps.
Yes, women are pimps too and allegedly, Tiger turned to one or two to keep him well supplied.
None of them earn anywhere near what Tiger earns. Their future prospects are limited if they do not hitch their wagon to the right man. They are like moths to the flame. Tiger’s money and power constitute an irresistible magnet.
Tiger is a star, a sexy pretty-boy, a famous athlete, the biggest name in golf. He can get girls in any city, any port, any hour of the day or night. He did not want an extra-marital affair. He wanted multiple affairs, multiple one night stands, multiple, ongoing sex contacts to juggle. He wanted non-committed sex with a series of women (eleven so far and counting), whom he had no intention of marrying.
To Tiger, sex is a sport, like golf, a form of entertainment, another way of scoring. He is no different than all the other alpha-male rock stars, actors, politicians and businessmen.
Tiger’s preference for (some might say addiction to) impersonal prostitution-like sex is not unique. Think about presidents Jack Kennedy and Bill Clinton and their non-stop philandering. More recently, think about Eliot Spitzer (Client #9). I hesitate to count the number of groupies Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones might once have had. We are not talking about love affairs. We are talking about a locker-room like release of tension and a male need to sexually dominate women while avoiding any real intimacy. We are not talking about Playboy-era Bunnies but about the normalization of post-hardcore pornography; about being accustomed to naked lap and pole dancing women in strip clubs, in movies, on television, and in hip hop and rap musical videos.

That’s not quite accurate. It truly is a scandal. Tiger Wood’s situation is so outrageous because of the deliberate scam job pulled on the American people. And heavy emphasis has to be placed on “deliberate.” Tiger’s handlers outright lied. They marketed him as some sort of married man true to his vows who always behaved in a virtuous manner. We are now finding out that he is often even downright mean towards caddies and other employees. Tiger appears to be a nasty piece of work. No, this is scandal because of the deceit. Gene Simon’s of Kiss at least never pretended to be anything other than a promiscuous cad.
Uhm Phyllis, I don’t mean to overshadow the seriousness of Tiger’s blonde ambitions, but please name the women who, any women, think he’s sexy or physically attractive. The attraction is to his fame and dead benjamins, not his countenance. I’m sorry but Tiger is unattractive. There’s no getting around that. He is the type of man who is made attractive by his bank account and that’s it. And, I don’t think I’ve ever heard one African-American woman groan on about Tiger’s good looks. And really, what grown man refers to himself as ‘Tiger.’ Enough said.
For years I have been saying that nothing in the world is less important than professional sports. Perhaps I should alter my views a bit. The personal lives of sports figures may be the least important thing on earth–except to those who are personally involved.
By the way, I believe Tiger Woods is part black, part white, part American Indian, part Chinese, and part Thai. In Chinese his name is Laohu Wuzi. Laohu means “tiger” and Wuzi sounds a lot like woo-dzuh or Woods.

It is very fair to compare Tiger Woods to Barack Obama. Both have been marketed as something they are not. Their marketers took for granted that well meaning and guilt tripped whites would not dare question the scam job being pulled on them. They just so badly wanted to believe! That all of Tiger’s liasons were White Women is of some interest to me too, his claim to being “Cablinasian” or whatever notwithstanding since it indicates to me that racism still exists quite strongly in America, only it seems to have taken deeper roots in the African American Community than among the Whites.
I find it hard to imagine anyone with a confident Black identity bowing to the emperor of Japan. So that last sentence has me wondering. As for Tiger, you can find in Frazer’s Golden Bough lots of examples of tribes who build up their kings, give them every sign of favour, knowing that at a designated time they will serve as a sacrificial victim redeeming the tribe.

It’s hard to take seriously the feigned outrage at Tiger Woods. The argument against him seems disjointed. After all, where is the surprise that another athlete or politician has been caught with a woman other than his wife? The stories have rolled out consistently for the last 20 years. Is there anything really new in the Woods scandal other than the faces, names and places?
By now it should be obvious to any observer: A man’s marital fidelity is directly related to the options he has opened to him. If he is powerful, rich and semi good looking, then his chances of scoring with some thrill seeking, perhaps money grubbing chick-e-poo are pretty good.
Money, power, fame and success = chick magnet. Women who seek out these kinds of men authenticate themselves as “someone who counts” simply for performing the basic function with a star. The women feel “special” or a “cut above” their girlfriends and other women because they bedded with the “name” guy.
Sadly, for many of these women, an assignation, however fleeting, may be the high point of what might otherwise be a miserable existence. Now we see “memoirs” of 1960 “groupies” who tramped around the world following Rock Gods whose names are now iconic in the culture. Belatedly, the groupsters are getting their chance to cash in on the now almost forgotten celebrity of 50 years ago.

This is fairly common with men. The only problems with this behavior is when women do not understand this or are purposely manipulated mentally and emotionally to believe this is not what is being presented to them from the men. It takes the consenting out of the situation.
I personally abhor this about single men and can smell their line of crap within 3 minutes of a 1st date. If I decide to give in to the game, for me it is being done with full knowledge and empowerment. They have won no conquest. I certainly don’t excuse what he has done, but when did Tiger’s “handlers” market him thusly? I certainly don’t remember seeing any advertisements or commercials portraying Tiger as a virtuous husband/father devoted to family life, and even if they did, only a fool would believe that what they see on TV is real. No, I only remember Tiger being advertised as perhaps the greatest golfer of all time. Methinks that anything else is a figment of your imagination.
I’m with Jack Nicklaus on this one. When asked about the Tiger Woods “situation” Jack replied – “It’s none of my business.”
Tiger’s behavior is not unusual on the PGA tour, and probably pretty typical of professional sports in general. The groupies that hang out in lobbies trying to lure these guys are legion What I don’t get about Woods is the number of women and the belief that at some point he wouldn’t be caught. His next move is to proclaim he has a sexual addiction problem and will go into treatment to save his marriage and redeem himself (and save a $100 million or so). I also don’t get his taste in women. About the strongest thing going for him – and one of his few qualities I admire – is Obama’s devotion to his wife and family. Such grounding has always been an essential quality for leadership. I don’t golf, don’t care about golf. I’m only aware of Tiger Woods and his recent scandal because celebrities of his stature are front page news in our society. I would have to close my eyes and cover my ears to have no idea what’s going on.
A man betrayed his marriage vows. That’s a matter between him and his wife, although one that could end up in court if she is sufficiently angry at him. He is famous, rich, young, handsome, talented, and apparently betrayed those vows rather frequently. That explains the public interest in the story, but hopefully the pompous pontification by public pundits will end soon.
I am only commenting on this article because Tiger Woods is in fact a great golfer and I am a lousy one who doesn’t even play and doesn’t really watch, but I must say that he at this point in time is the greatest ever in his chosen sport and profession.
Other than being great at golf he does have flaws and is in fact just another human being. It seems when one has it all they really want more and sadly this is what is being shown. Perhaps he can redeem himself and bring hope to those that followed or adored him!

I didn’t understand the point of this article. I usually enjoy reading your work but this was a little far-reaching for my taste. Including Obama in an article about infidelity and prostitution is a head scratcher. Tiger has never identified himself as a black man and largely the black community and everyone else went along with it. Now that he has been found to be a cheater and a liar, all of a sudden, he’s a black man and all blacks are somehow responsible for his actions. What about all of the white women who have had no problem in sleeping with a married man? There’s a line in one of Saul Bellow’s novels (it may have been Herzog, not sure) in which he describes a young nubile woman as one who “picked up her equipment and advanced to the front [with it].” In other words we use whatever advantages we’re equipped with in the battle of life. Ours is a media-fueled sports obsessed culture. Superior athletes identify themselves at an early age. From high school onward they are showered with adoration, get all the benefit of raging sophomoric female hormones, are relieved of any responsibility for performance in any other field or aspect of their lives.. We cultivate athletes to be studs – and sociopaths, entitled to adulation not only from women, but from men, often wealthy and prominent, seeking to enhance their status by their association with sports “legends”. The Tiger Woods of the world, whatever their ethnicity or their sport, simply view this as part of their pay-off. They don’t understand what all the fuss is about.
Lots of references here to Obama, who, despite his faults and dishonesty, is transparently a faithful and devoted husband. (with Michelle, the tiger, as is wife, how could he he not be?)
If you’re going to make a Presidential comparison, take the revered J.F.Kennedy, schooled in studism by his famously promiscuous father. It was common knowledge in the press during his tenure that he demanded sexual fulfillment daily and that. when he came to New York, a room was reserved on the floor below the White House contingent, for the coed. or other romp-worthy candidate selected by his staff to be his bedmate of the night – or, if she distinguished herself by her performance, several nights. You fail to understand the REAL issue of Tiger Wood’s sexcapades. The soft polygamy of America. Where a few men have many women and a lot of men have none.
Let’s review: Wood’s has a wife, and at counting currently, 13 confirmed mistresses. Of those 13, two are porn stars who apparently also are escorts. One is a reality show contestant and “professional girlfriend.” The rest, range from pretty and young (as young as 20) local waitresses around Wood’s home (one an IHOP waitress), BBC newsreaders, nightclub marketing managers, promotional managers, event planners, and so on.
All of these women knew Woods was married, that there was no real chance of him divorcing his wife to marry them, and did not CARE.
“Throwing out” the two porn stars and the reality show contestant, we are left with ten mistresses and one wife that Woods “took off the marriage market” and created a “soft harem.”
Woods reveals an ugly truth. Many women would rather have a portion of Big Shot (even when no money is involved) than ALL of an “average” or equal to them (in status/power/looks) man. Woods and the women’s desire for him at all costs meant that there were AT LEAST ELEVEN OTHER MEN fighting over remaining pool of women.
Multiply this out and you see the same tensions as in officially polygamous Muslim societies (or 19th Century Mormonism): a large pool of men who are celibate against their will, must resort to prostitutes (a degrading and anger-inducing action) and are desperate enough to sign on to any idiot scheme promising to make them a Big Man (what women want) now or in the Hereafter.
The Pill, the Condom, anonymous Urban Living, improved social and earning status for women, lead inevitably to a “soft polygamy” of Tiger Woods. For ever Tiger, there are ten guys with three-four girls on a simultaneous string. Meaning that there are three or four other guys fighting it out over the rest of the available women. Fighting it out, moreover, NOT ON THE BASIS OF FAITHFUL PROVIDER STATUS, but rather how big an “a-hole” a guy can be, how much of a Big Shot.
I find Woods wife’s plight amusing — she knew what Woods was when she married him, and thought she had “magic qualities” that “would change him.” She’s no different from Rihanna who sang the song (really, check it out on Youtube) “There’s a Thug in My Life” and detailed her preference for men: “no nice guys, but high risk aggressive guys.” Elin Nordgren, Sanford’s wife, Elizabeth Edwards, Silda Spitzer, Hillary Clinton, they all wanted the Big Shot and were shocked when they found out they could not change what attracted them in the first place (their husbands were Big Shot Big Men).
Nevertheless the implication with Woods is that we will have a large and growing trend towards a few men with “soft Harems” and a many men without any women in their lives, no concern whatsoever for women (who are the Big Man’s harem) or kids (the Big Man’s spawn) and who copy the behavior among UK White “Chavs” Theodore Dalrymple notes in “Life at the Bottom” or found in the ghettos and barrios — being the biggest thug (violence trumps wealth/status/power) to attract women on a short term, chaotic basis.

I had no idea Woods made most of his money not on the golf course from these “endorsements.” According to the huge ammount of comments on the web from people who say, apparently brokenhearted, things like “What can I tell my son who loves Gatorade because Tiger Woods drinks it?”, this scam is enormously successful. Innumerable sane citizens do buy, to my perpetual amazement, things based on fame/celebrity endorsements, not on experience, reason, and other people’s advice/experience. Incidentally, it has been seldom reported but Tiger Woods actually disdains, indeed loathes his blackness. There was this minor scandal some years ago where he was “entertaining” some of his fans by telling black jokes. Woods also tried to distance himself from the black community by saying that he considered himself Asian because unlike blacks, the Asian community values family, hard work and personal responsibility. (This was back when he used to golf with Rush Limbaugh.) Now the liberal media rarely spoke much about the very negative things that Woods said about black people and black culture. The conservative media, meanwhile, basically just agreed with him.
The people who brought up Michael Jackson and Sammy Sosa … Jackson exhibited the same extreme disdain for black people. That was exposed by Jackson’s former manager, and wasn’t the least bit surprising. Wesley Snipes (a black actor who met Michael Jackson when acting in one of his videos) stated that Jackson appeared to be physically afraid when around black people, and in the black neighborhood where they were shooting the “Bad” video.
But as far as Sosa goes … please realize that Dominicans and a great many other Afro-Latinos do not consider themselves to be black. Instead, they identify with Latino culture, and that includes the European beauty standard. Goodness, look at Univision or Telemundo. Not only do you hardly ever see any blacks (despite the fact that there are tens of millions of black Latinos and Brazilians), but the women on Latin American TV usually don’t even look Latino, but European, especially blond.
The real issue here, though is that for over a decade, Tiger Woods was, along with Clarence Thomas, a primary conservative hero and the ideal black man: the black man who rejects his blackness, distances himself from the black community, and despises black culture. The dichotomy between the elevation of Tiger Woods and their antipathy for (or attempts to ignore) Venus and Serena Williams, who are just as good in tennis as is Woods at golf, was simply amazing, especially when one considers the fact that the Williams’ family is not liberal, and there is no evidence that the Williams sisters exhibit the hostility towards white people of their father (quite the contrary, one of the Williams’ sisters actually dated a Jewish businessman for a time). The only reason: the Williams’ sisters embraced their blackness and the black community while Tiger Woods rejected both.
It really goes to show that conservatives only have use for blacks who despise the black community as much as they do. Well, conservatives elevated Tiger Woods precisely for that reason, and I wonder what the conservatives who spent a decade using Woods as their weapon to attack the black community.
The revolting part is that conservatives usually claimed that blacks would be happier and more successful if they shared Woods’ (and by extension their own) disdain for themselves and their community. Now they knew full well that for blacks who lacked Woods’ access to white society because of his wealth, celebrity, upbringing (in an upscale all white suburban neighborhood), and mixed racial heritage it was impossible. They knew that Tiger Woods was an unattainable role model for 99% of black people. Conservatives simply wanted blacks to hate themselves, the black community and the black culture as much as Woods (and they themselves do), and pretended that if only this great thing would happen that all of this nation’s racial problems and the issues of poverty, welfare, crime, illegitimacy etc. would just dry up and blow away.
Well, now that it appears that Woods has bigger problems than hating the 1/4 (1/6? 1/8?) of him that is “cursed” to be black, so conservatives are back with their old standby Clarence Thomas.

As they developed society, the roles of the sexes in that society were defined by the requirements for survival in a not very friendly world. Humans don’t evolve so much as they evolve the environment they live in. Society does evolve to match the effect of humans on their environment.
Through the centuries, the original relationship of males and females didn’t change because it was a survival trait for the societies they were part of.
By the mid 19th century C.E., Society had evolved to the point where the male/female relationship worked out 100,000 years before could be challenged. The industrial age made the physical advantages of males less important. The sheer carnage of industrial warfare made violence less of a solution and more of a social problem.
That challenge is on-going. More progressive societies are including females as more then breeders, the more conservative societies are NOT. This is a big part of the clash of civilizations today.
Western civilization sees females as being more then breeders as essential to the survival of Western civilization. Most of the 3rd world sees females stepping out of their role as breeders as a threat to civilization. One side is correct. the other is wrong. The society that is wrong is doomed.

The fact that this comes after sex drive decreases lies in the fact that they are two effects of a common cause- aging. I have to disagree with you here. Women have to take responsibility for their choices. Tiger Woods did not force these women to have sex with him. They made informed choices to be with him knowing he was married — and knowing he was unavailable for anything other than what they were getting.
These women, as far as I have seen, were adults who made up their minds to have sex and affairs with him knowing their actions were destroying a marriage and a family. They are not victims of anything except their own delusions.
