Obama, the Media, and Dog World

Their master's voicre

Their master’s voice

A friend of mine, who happens to own three dogs, once articulated the concept of Dog World for me: the canine’s charming ability to completely forget everything outside its immediate purview and then instantly light up with delight when, say, you come back into the room — even if you’ve only been gone for a couple of minutes. Everything has been forgotten and forgiven, and the world begins again anew.

This phenomenon, I think, explains the mainstream media’s utter inability to cover Barack Hussein Obama and his administration with any degree of rationality. It’s been a commonplace for at least five years now that the MSM is more lapdog than watchdog, and the rapidly diminishing news organizations have become kennels for the housing of particularly prized hunt (conservatives) and fetch (for liberals) hounds.

The MSM gleefully abandoned all pretense of neutrality once Obama showed up — for the aging Baby Boomers who still control the legacy media, the Civil Rights movement (not the Cold War against Soviet Communism) was and remains the signal issue of their lives; for them, Obama was the living embodiment of Martin Luther King’s great “Dream” speech and, however unworthy he was to take on Dr. King’s mantle … well, you go to war with the army you have. There cannot be any “objectivity” about Obama, because to allow any into the coverage would be to negate the entire reason the news chiefs went into journalism in the first place.

Fair’s fair — the men (and they were all men in those day) who hired Boomers like me back in the late sixties and early seventies were, for the most part, cold warriors. There was a national bipartisan consensus about George Kennan’s doctrine of containment (although even then the original red diaper babies were doing all they could to help out their ideological allies, the Soviets). Was the coverage therefore slanted against “objectivity” when it came to Soviet communism and the danger it posed to American society? Of course it was.

Now the Left is in the ascendancy in the media and academe and all the other professions into which they fled after their revolution of 1968-70 came up short, and they figured out you could get your head busted or worse trying to go up against The Man without adequate backup. It’s just their luck that, late in their careers, they’ve completely taken over journalistic enterprises like the New York Times and the Washington Post, just as those newspapers are crumbling; when Carlos Slim bailed out the Times and Jeff Bezos bought the Post, they temporarily suspended their War on the One Percent in the interests of self-preservation, but you don’t need a former member of the Weather Underground like Obama’s buddy Bill Ayers to know which way the wind’s blowing.

Still, for the Left, “objectivity” in covering Obama hasn’t entirely died, it’s just been redefined. Where once it mean “balance,” today it means “forget everything that happened yesterday,” just like in Dog World. Obama’s prior actions, statements, inconsistencies, gaffes? No problem! Yesterday’s fishwrap, pixels in the sand. Did the president switch positions on a dime? Who can remember back that far? It’s like the scene in Casablanca (no, not that scene) in which Rick ¬†blows off Yvonne, his French girlfriend:

Yvonne: Where were you last night?

Rick Blaine: That’s so long ago, I don’t remember.

Yvonne: Will I see you tonight?

Rick Blaine quote: I never make plans that far ahead.

In other words, Obama and the Democrat-Media Complex exist in the Context of No Context. This allows the president to stay on the campaign trail (the only thing he really knows how to do; it’s certainly not basketball or golf) and, in effect, to run against himself. The media allows him to hold one position — say, opposition to gay marriage — for years and then suddenly switch sides after “evolving,” without ever mentioning again his former opposition. (That’s because, in their hearts of hearts, they knew he was lying all along.) To bring it up again would not only be bad form, it would be indulging in “analysis” in the sacrosanct “news columns,” which as we all know are completely free of spin, attitude or snark unless some Republican or conservative deserves it.

At this point, the entire MSM functions as an in-kind contribution to the Democrats — “free media”! — and it would be nice to see a single GOP “leader” make an issue of this — take them to court if need be. Now that the president has mainstreamed the use of the IRS to wage war on his political opponents — and assuming that some day a Republican manages to struggle into the White House — the new tools of executive fiat will come in mighty handy when confronting the Left down the line. Which of course is one reason they’re fighting so hard to retake Congress in 2014 (Obamacare? What Obamacare? Oh, you mean the free goodies!) and already grooming Hillary Clinton for the presidency in ’16.

And of course the media cheers right along, busily prepping not one but two shows about Hillary and trying to explain to the public that, no, NBC’s entertainment division has absolutely nothing to do with NBC’s news division: it’s the Context of No Context! It’s Dog World! The news-division watchdogs of the mighty nets are completely free of bias and/or influence from their corporate masters, and will fight mightily for the American People’s Right To Know, to expose…

"...now that the MSM is more lapdog than watchdog."

I disagree Michael. The media is a junkyard dog that guards the Democratic Party, tearing apart any threats to it. Just see what they did to Sarah Palin. Lapdogs are cute and cuddly. These whores are rabid and a threat to our very country.

This media can sit up, speak, roll over (repeatedly), fetch and shake hands.

It CANNOT, however...be man's best friend. It is an angry, snarling cur...mangy and diseased, when ANY non-leftist is the subject matter.

And, the ability to "forget" applies only to fellow travelers. When they go digging in the Republican or conservative garden...going back to high school lockermates and spouses' prescription drugs...is something you will NEVER see or hear regarding a leftist.

There is nothing "liberal" in this approach. There is nothing tolerant or compassionate. There is nothing "anti-war". There is nothing "pro education".

This is totalitarianism, one-party...THE PARTY...rule.

Played with a completely different set of rules for one side as opposed to the other.

And, not only will that dog not hunt...it is a revolution that should be "put down".

The day is coming when "The vile person shall be no more called liberal" (Isaiah 32:5).

Now that's something I wouldn't mind being around for.

Lately it's become necessary for the mainstream media -- perhaps better called the news entertainment industry -- to actually do some objective reporting. This is because of the various scandals, and the continuing length of the Great Recession and decline of personal wealth. So now we get an occasional bone thrown our way on IRS or AP, with Fox RINO throwing in even more info on Benghazi.

Anyway, it's better to divert us dogs from the ever deepening financial collapse, and the even more dire immigration "reform", a debacle that will not be reversible.

When Obama has finally attained his deserved stature right below Jim Carter as the last name under the list of presidents who did a good job for America, Hillary will be forgiven her magical cattle futures trade, Benghazie, and all her other little peccadilloes. Personally I will remember her for her first 2016 campaign kick-off speech yesterday concerning "voting rights.".

Too funny. So Hill's first campaign speech is a plea to allow the dead, the unqualified, the out-of-staters, and the multi-voters to continue to vote. She will probably soon be going after the banks to stop them from checking the IDs of customers and "others. (Also posted at Politico.)

"Give up the vote and the money. It ain't no ways hard." [Not a real quote of hers, but just an extrapolation.]

The media is not a lap dog. They have no control because of this action!

They did this by Executive order.

In "cases of rebellion or invasion [when] the public safety may require it," the Constitution permits a president to suspend the right to be freed from arrest by a writ of habeas corpus -- as Lincoln did during the Civil War. That denies a person jailed even by illegal means recourse in the courts.

On Lincoln's orders, outspoken civilians from secessionist states were jailed at Fort McHenry without formal charges, as were Baltimore's mayor, police chief and police commissioner, 31 members of the Maryland legislature and newspaper reporters, members of Congress and judges.

Simply by proclaiming a national emergency on Friday, President Bush activated some 500 dormant legal provisions, including those allowing him to impose censorship and martial law.

This is responsible for our current police state! They renew this as the NDAA every year!

As a dog owner (though sometimes it's difficult to ascertain just who owns whom), I can tell you that lapdogs (mine's a 10-pound papillon, bred for companionship) will be cute, cuddly lapdogs; BUT if someone tries to attack you while they're on your lap, they'll be the first to defend you with teeth and claws -- whether they know you are in the right or in the wrong.

Reminds me of the wonderful Presidential dog Trimmer in Fletcher Knebel & Charles Bailey's excellent novel "Seven Days in May," introduced to Marine Col. Casey thus: "Colonel, meet Trimmer. He's a political dog. He has absolutely no convictions, but he's loyal to his friends."

Any questions?

Yes but as a long time dog owner I know that they are experts in guile, cunning and flattery as well. Maybe that is one reason why we get along so well.

They understand and remember much better than Michael Walsh gives them credit for. You can walk in the same door years later and the dog of the house knows exactly what happened the last time. Leave your corned beef sandwich unattended it is fair game.

Not only that but when a dog is naughty they have the grace to look guilty. Not so the press.

You confuse education with indoctrination. These people aren't taught - they are trained to achieve a certain goal and they are being taught by people who themselves where trained in the same fashion.

In short they believe the ends justifies the means.

If you don't believe me I'll tell you that I was once in a resaurant many years ago (media still had a bit of integrity back then). A table or two over from mine was a reporter for the WaPo. His friends were chiding him because he'd fudged a bit on a story he'd written - made a more slanted story. He tried to hem and haw for a bit before he finally, and firmly said (and this is were the educational training comes in) "People are stupid! They need me to tell them what to think."
