My (PR) Agents in Tehran

June 13, 2011 - 7:09 pm - by Michael Ledeen

I am once again grateful to the leaders of the Iranian regime for their continuing efforts to portray me as a powerful man at the very center of American foreign policy.  Their latest effort—which consists of a poorly fabricated video and several spinoffs in official publications—have me one of the key organizers of a phantomatical Iranian government-in-exile.  I am said to have worked intimately with Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, putting them in touch with a character named Madhi (not to be confused with “the mahdi,” aka the 12th Imam, the Iranian Shi’ite messiah with whom President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims to have a close working relationship).  I and my cohorts at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, having received billions of dollars from the dark forces of the FBI, CIA and State, allegedly arranged for Madhi to hobnob with the Veep and the Secretary of State to further our diabolical scheme.

No serious person with even a passing knowledge of the Obama Administration would take any of it seriously (although, if you’ll hold that thought for a moment, you’ll see that one major “newspaper” with claims to legitimacy published the fantasy in considerable detail).  I’ve never met Hillary or Joe, never met Madhi or communicated with him in any way, and have never set foot in the city of Bangkok, where, according to the Tehran disinformers, I supposedly met with him.  The powers-that-be in the Obama White House and State Department don’t have time for the likes of me, which is easily understandable.

Moreover, I am famously opposed to trying to organize the Iranian diaspora against the Tehran regime.  The people who will eventually do that don’t live here or in Europe;  the Iranians who will topple Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are over there, in Iran.  Those are the people we should be supporting, and I have been saying that for many years.

My PR agents carrying out the wishes of Messrs Khamenei and Ahmadinejad don’t seem to understand these little details.  For them, an American is an American, and we’re all agents of the Great Satan.  For extras, they don’t believe for a minute that the millions of Iranians who have marched in the streets and chanted “death to the dictator” are doing it on their own, simply because they hate the tyrants that have wrecked their country.  The Iranian leaders think it’s all a dark plot.  They accordingly manufacture the “evidence” of it.

As I said, I’m grateful for their efforts to pump up my profile;  with a bit of luck I might get some speaking dates out of it.  And the British “newspaper,” the Guardian, has jumped on the bandwagon, publishing a “news story” about the Iranian video that doesn’t challenge any of its claims.  What’s so funny about this is that the Guardian was itself gulled by Mr. Madhi a while back (which they admit), but they couldn’t be bothered to check any of the recent Iranian nonsense.

I guess they thought it was too good to check.  Not that you need any such advice, but I’d be careful before believing anything in the Guardian.  They may have ghost writers in Tehran.

It is ironic that the leftist Guardian newspaper is willing to defend the mullahs or to apologize for the Iranian regime… Am I surprised? Not at all. Am I surprised to see the left in bed with the mullahs? Not at all.

Try as you might to deny it, Michael, the truth will come out about you being the Evil Mastermind Behind It All(tm).

A very clear appreciation of the situation, I think – especially the quite specific statement that “The people who will eventually [topple the regime]don’t live here or in Europe; the Iranians who will topple Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are over there, in Iran.” Exactly.

You must admit, you do give the impression of some “inside” role in your highly informed articles about Iran and US policy. Watch out for these lunatics, though; they might believe their own propaganda.

thanks, but over the years the “insiders” have been generally wrong about Iran. People like me have done better because we have better sources of information. I’ve been trying to understand Iranian actions since 1978.

Michael, to all of those Iranians living in Iran I have talked to these recent years, they know of you, respect you highly and have great admiration for you and your non stop efforts in educating Americans. That is why the regime is so scared of you and feels the need to come up with such nonsense stories from time to time. To them you are one of the reasons they are being sanctioned and and challenged by their own people. It is so surreal and funny to see them swirl in their own crap like this. Very amusing indeed!

As for Guardian there is no surprise, that is the same junkie leftists paper that championed Khomeini into power back in 1979. They have their own agenda and nobody in the right mind gives a crap about them. They just need to be ignored and heckled!

yes they are indeed hilarious. the only thing they do effectively is murder. which isn’t funny at all.

I could believe the Iranian regime’s charges, except they screwed up and said you were working with Joe Biden. Biden a behind the scenes mastermind? That just strains credulity.

    • Michael Ledeen

so you think Hillary would work with me on Iran? hahaaaaaaa

Michael, my thanks for your continuing rapier sharp wit being used to afflict the comfortable.

The difference between news and propaganda being cast by the LSM says a lot about why their credibility deficit is large, and growing.

  7. I have often observed that the totalitarian regimes that use secrecy and lies find themselves blinded by the same fog that they carefully create.
For that reason, I will agree with Phineas at #2 above and I would add that all the readers here are part of one great secret organization and all our comments are code language that allows us to trigger secret cells into action worldwide.

    It is called Freedom.

If I thought about it for a long time, I would be hard-pressed to come up with a more incongruous pairing than the gifted, scholarly, principled, and chivalrous Dr. Ledeen, and the unfortunate buffoon currently attempting to fill the position of VPOTUS. In fact, every time I see a TV listing for a repeat of “The Pelican Brief,” I find myself wondering if Biden mightn’t be attempting to model his performance on the Presidential role rendered with such nauseating perfection by Robert Culp, Biden having been misled, of course, by his characteristic complete obliviousness to what that performance was meant to convey. I could be way off base, of course, but the foregoing, at least for me, would certainly argue against any assertions of such an alliance being based on reliable intelligence.

Michael, always a pleasure to read your M E pieces.

Though the Telegraph’s taking this fiction and running with it is no surprise. For that fish wrap of a paper is located in Londonistan of all places!

    And Michael, I knew the article was bunk from the get-go, for NO ONE in their right mind visits Bangkok, let alone Thailand this time of year! November, December, oh yeah… ( ;
