Iranian Nights
The Green Movement is calling for the people of Iran to support Green leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi by chanting “God is great” from the rooftops every night at ten o’clock. Mousavi and Karroubi believe that they will be arrested when President Ahmadinejad returns from New York later this week.
Karroubi and Mousavi have worried about this before, but there is some evidence they may be right this time. The chief prosecutor has promised to arrest and prosecute them. Their offices and home have been ransacked and even set on fire; Karroubi’s son has said his father was convinced that regime thugs were seriously trying to kill him, and Karroubi responded with a letter to former president Hashemi Rafsanjani, the head of the Experts’ Council (that has the power to remove the supreme leader for cause), pointing out the many failures of Supreme Leader Khamenei and the unconstitutional powers amassed by the Revolutionary Guards. Meanwhile, all telephone lines to Karroubi’s house have been cut, and would-visitors, even national heroes, have been arrested and interrogated.
This does seem portentious, and the Green leaders have issued a warning. “should the Iranian regime be foolish enough to in any form or shape imprison the Movement’s leaders, the repercussions will indeed [be] “bitter” and painful for Iran’s un-Islamic rulers.” And the chants in support of Mousavi and Karroubi were certainly impressive.
Meanwhile, there was an explosion on a military base in Mahabad. The Intelligence Minister announced that the guilty parties have been identified and that he hopes they will soon be brought to justice. This comes after earlier announcements that identified the guilty as Kurds, then Israelis, then Americans.
Somebody on Twitter pointed out that the base had been under tight military control for several days before the explosion, preparing for the celebrations of the end of the Iran-Iraq War. So the regime would do well to look within its own ranks when such events take place. I think the supreme leader knows this, and fears the size and commitment of the opposition.
Which is why, if Mousavi and Karroubi are indeed arrested in a few days, it will be yet another sign of the desperation of the regime. Stay tuned.

In the meanwhile, Ahmadinejad is being interviewed by Liberal media left and right. Last night he was on Larry King live. May be Larry King who is getting old, but what about his producers which seems they have no clue about the topic on hand, Iran.
1) Any stupid person in the world knows Ahmadinejad is not in charge of the affairs in Iran. Why not asking him that question? Before giving him the power he doesn’t have, one must ask him: “what is your power and influence in the affairs of Iran? Can you conduct your business without permission from Ali Khamenehi? Then based on his answer, the interviewer can ask question relevant to democracy and human right.
2) When Larry asking about political prisoner, who are being routinely rape and sodomized and torture, Ahmadinejad mentions jail criminals in US. Why Larry didn’t mention any particular case which he can find from the web so easily.
3) When Ahmadinejad was asked about the Stoning issue, he dodged the question and responded with unrelated answer. Why not insisting if the stoning is the law of the land or not?
4) When Ahmadinejad mentioned there are 40M poor in US, why he wasn’t confronted with the conditions of the people inside Iran, where there are 000s of evidences on the web.
The funny thing is that after the interview, Larry King brought a wide mouth ex-Newsweek!! reporter as expert to obtain his opinion about Ahmadnejad interview. The wide mouth guy said:
“Ahmadnejad is very smart and cleaver individual”. What a pity. These liberal guys have their agenda set now to promote Islamists, since they are against US. They did the same with Soviet Union, then China, and constantly praising Castro’s regime. Whomever and whatever is against US, liberal promote it and Ahmadnejed is not an exception. Only we, the people with Iranian origin realize how devastating the power in the hands of mullahs can be.
do you think only women can understand other women? just asking…
I don’t know if women only can understand other women but one certainty is that Larry surely does not know or understand women. Don’t believe me? Ask the family tennis pro.
More to the point, events may come to a head if the two “leaders” of the Greens are put on trial. However I am afraid the brutal regime thugs, unlike the Shah, may be quite ready to mow down demonstrators without remorse. As long as the world community is ready to negotiate and talk with shameless characters such as Ahmadinejad and Khamenei they will feel no hinderance in holding back on their barbarism. The national leaders of democracies have to unite is their support of the Greens and should not state their readiness to talk with the oppressors as did Mr. Obama only yesterday.
One other point. As I was watching the anti Ajad demonstrations in front of the UN today I noticed that the majority were MKO carrying pictures of the Rajavis. One had a green baseball cap with Viva Rajavi sewn on it. How quaint. It is imperative that they be exposed as an equal danger to freedom in Iran as the Mullahs. Do not be fooled by their Jeffersonian cries for freedom. They are cultish Islamo Marxists whose modus operendi, if in power, will be closely analogous to someone like a Pol Pot. Please take time to see or read the Killing Fields to get some understanding of what the MKO may unleesh on Iran.
Thanks Michael for keeping on top of the situation. For, none of the “enlightened” who do a better job of showing what is benighted, rather than enlightened, could not be bothered to do the same.
On a different note, Ezra Levant is in my neck of the woods. He sends his greetings, and regards. The reason he is in my neck of the woods is a promotional tour of his
newest book, “Ethical Oil”. It is well worth reading, and reviewing.
thanks and dittos to the excellent M. Levant
Dr. Ledeen, what do you make of this? Was she a Trojan Horse at the dinner or on Fox? I am confused.

i don’t know; i don’t follow the iranian disaspora…not my problem.
I believe very strongly that Ahmadinejad must be punished for his rants at the UN. The easiest way is for port workers at the airport to stop servicing his airplane and keep him and other murderers on plane for few hours. This is easily achieved since the workers are mostly unionized and have lost number of friends in 9/11 tragedy. The departure can be delay by turning airplane off while questioning the pilots. Also knowing the psychic of Iranian women in black chador, their luggage must be searched and the contents of their luggage (materials and dresses bought in US) must be revealed to the public. The search can be due to the fact that we can’t trust these crazy people. For blaming US, they might carry stuffs that can damage the airplane. Therefore the search is justified. This could have a devastating effect and will demonstrate that these crazies are here to purchase American goods while attacking American on their own soil.
Why do the Green leaders now threaten the government if they are arrested, whereas in the summer of 2009 they defied, even encouraged, the government to arrest them? Why is arrest now to be avoided, when arrest last year meant, if not martyrdom, at least a much higher moral standing?
If they are arrested, wouldn’t that be a sign of the theofascist regime’s new-found confidence that they will prevail against the weakened Green Movement? In one view, the arrests be a counter-productive sign of the regime’s desperation. In another view, the arrests would be a sign of the regime’s successful year-long consolidation of power.
Fascists, once in power, do not surrender power. If the Green leadership is arrested, it is a sign of further consolidation of power in Iran, on its downward spiral to ideo/theological totalitarianism.
i think the regime has arrived at theocratic fascism long since. why are the Greens now more aggressive? I think because they feel stronger than they did a year ago.
It would be nice if the master editor at Pajamamedia — is there such a person? — tied this in with the computer hacking developments reported elsewhere on this site said to have damaged Iran’s nuclear bomb-building capacity. Could someone send an email?
“God is Great”/Allah-O-Akbar is the evil chant that Islaist terrorists yelp out just before they behead their victims.
Glad to see Ledeen is now joining the Allah-O-Akbar Kill-Call crowd in promoting Islamists in Iran, too.
All the author wants is for the western-backed “good” Islamists to rule in Iran, that’a all. He targets Ahmadinejad/Khamenei only instead of the whole evil Islamist regime. Shame.
Firtunately, all now see what he stands for, and the goons Karrubi/Moussavi, and Mohammad Khatami who is this author’s special “Bitch Boy” in Iran regime.
The Iranian people want a secular democrac, not another mullah-cracy under a new name, so thet “…spit at thee” who supports the fake revo;lutiuonary mullah bitches.:)
