City folk have always looked on their country neighbors with superstition. According to John Podhoretz at the Weekly Standard, this suspicion has carried a clearly political bent since the days of W. His evidence: Scary white dudes, like Walter White (Breaking Bad) and Bill Henrickson (Big Love) from middle America invading your TVs.

“In Difficult Men, Brett Martin’s book about the remarkable writer-producers who brought television to new cultural heights, Martin notes that there was something explicitly political at work in the early days of what he calls television’s “Third Golden Age.” Americans “on the losing side” of the 2000 election, Martin writes, “were left groping to come to terms with the Beast lurking in their own body politic.” As it happened, “that side happened to track very closely with the viewerships of networks like AMC, FX, and HBO: coastal, liberal, educated, ‘blue state.’ And what the Third Golden Age brought them was a humanized red state. .  .  . This was the ascendant Right being presented to the disempowered Left—as if to reassure it that those in charge were still recognizably human.”

…It’s the depiction of the worlds in which they live that is so striking, even more so in the series that have come along since the body politic’s shift to the left, beginning in 2006. The canvas on which these characters are brought to three-dimensional life isn’t a “humanized red state” at all, but rather the red state of liberal horror fantasy.”

Podhoretz concludes: “Still, rich Hollywood folk making mincemeat out of poor rural folk is another element of the ongoing American culture war that should not go unremarked.”

Fair enough, although any critical studies grad could tell you that whitey from the sticks, especially them man-folks, have been derided for a long time among the educated liberal elites who fill television’s coveted writers’ rooms. Educated liberal elites, mind you, who are primarily white dudes.

malegaze

Take, for example, Breaking Bad creator and lead writer Vince Gilligan. Walter White is only the latest in a stream of strange white guy leads from the NYU Film grad that made his fame penning for the 90’s hit The X-Files and its spinoff, The Lone Gunman, two shows about white, male, morally questionable anti-heroes, that were created long before the Red State/Blue State debate began. Here’s where the black and white argument of conservatives begins to go gray: White dudes mocking white dudes? Forget the Red/Blue, Country/City, Right/Left default. The far more interesting question that characters like Walter White raise is: Why would white men constantly cast themselves as sociopathic anti-heroes?

To this day I recall a white male film student of mine walking into class with a look of shame on his face. “I just got out of film theory,” he remarked when asked, “and I feel like a rapist. I mean, I’d never do that, but white guys, we’re so…dirty. We’re horrible people.” A few weeks later he commented, “After college I’m moving back to Scotland. My ancestors came from there a few centuries ago; there’s got to be something better there for me than there is here. In America, I’m a white guy- I’m nothing.”

This – the way we characterize white men and men in general – is a cultural crisis that goes deeper than Right versus Left. Despite the many attempts to drag it into the realm of politics, this is a moral issue. Academia titles a sexualized perspective as “the male gaze” and loads classrooms with the second wave feminist point of view: The kind of programming that ends up on our TV screens isn’t shocking, it’s inevitable. Now is the time to draw attention to the inherent – and dangerous – power of higher education to shape students’ perspectives, not only about the outside world, but about themselves.

Never argue points or facts with Lefties. Ridicule their premise and challenge them to divulge their real agenda. If you argue facts and points they have already won. I hear Righties talking about "access to healthcare" when they mean "insurance", discussing "reproductive rights" (is there anywhere in the US you have no right to reproduce?) when they mean "abortion". If you adopt Lefty language you have already handed them a win.
Don't argue with Lefties. Expose their premises as the nonsense they are.

Your "white male film student" needed to swallow the red pill.

Now that he's in the cluthes of Europe he never will. You could have averted this tragedy.

Too bad. So sad.

I can only speak for myself, but "real" men, white or not, don't hide from a housecat and call 911 to "save" themselves and their families from said feline. When men get so afraid of potentially receiving some scratches, then we are doomed. And I don't want to hear about how cat scratches can be dangerous unless that person is advocating outlawing kitty.

Generally speaking there has come to be two different kinds of feminists: one that targets unequal laws and cultural custom and practice, and those that target men. The latter is increasingly defined by what's called third wave intersectional feminism, in that it gathers in more forms of oppression that affects women - gay, non-white, postcolonial, etc. White, straight, men, are the target, because homophobia and racism are gathered in.

Because there are no laws targeted and no real world solutions offered, 3W feminism is little more than a racist sexist cult. 3W feminism is what people like Melissa Harris-Perry sells, and that form of hate speech is being mainstreamed throughout American academia and liberal media.

Basically the entirety of human civilization is thrown to the curb and being falsely portrayed as too white, too straight, and too male. Anything that is an outgrowth of that - including film, TV, and literature, but really pretty much everything - is on the docket for demolition and renovation.

It is yet the latest manifestation of what we loosely call political correctness. Due to moral relativism, where the least opinion is given equal weight, even people with pathological and anti-social mental health issues contribute to this ideology. That can be plainly seen from such things as advancing the idea of all sex as rape and things like trigger warnings, which were originally for people with fragile mental states.

3W feminism, because it addresses so many anti-oppression narratives ranging from immigration to imperialism to native Americans to gay rights, gathers in a lot of allies under the rubric of the Dem Party.

A single example of a takeover by 3W feminism can be seen in the Science Fiction Writers of America, which now defaults to 3W feminist orthodoxy and cant, and whose Nebula Awards are now nothing more than a 3W affirmative action initiative. 5 of the 8 novels nominated this year are directly connected to feminist and gay feminist issues - 6 are by women. That has happened in the space of less than 10 years.

If you want to strip down 3W feminism to its bare bones principles, it is nothing more than a supremacist version of the KKK, where morality, good sense, and spirituality is stripped away from the straight white male and pumped into everyone else. 3W feminism is little different than Muslim Brotherhood Sayd Qutb's ideological excuses and form of an inferiority complex for why the West was superior/inferior to Islam: technologically clever and strong in brute force, but spiritually and morally empty.

That's what conservatives are up against, and there is nothing political about it - like radical Islam, it is pure hate formed around self-pity, hand-wringing, blame and excuses. 3W feminism is pedagogic and demagogic extremism and it is now the go-to girl of the Dem Party. Whenever such hate speech is mainstreamed into a nation, you can expect nothing but trouble ahead, because there is nothing remotely sane or loving about 3W feminism, though that is exactly what this group of Orwellians is selling.

I think you meant to say that today's feminists are like a sex-based instead of race based KKK, where their hatred is focused on the "inferior" (yet nevertheless threatening) opposite sex. The KKK are supremacists, so the statement "supremacist version of the KKK,..." doesn't make much sense. Excellent summary though.

Intersectional specifically includes race. Maybe a bad sentence but 3W feminists are identity supremacists. Females, but especially lesbian, non-white, assert a heightened sense of morality. In truth they are misandrists, heterophobes and racists while they accuse men of being white supremacist homophobic misogynists. 3W feminists literally believe it is impossible for themselves to be bigots.

Once you start researching into their blogs and Twitter streams, a surprising number admit to rather serious mental health issues centered around depression and anxiety.

The people who set our values exalt gayness, laziness, weakness and cowardice in men; and shrewishness, selfishness, whinyness, sleaziness and general stupidity in women.

Maybe the thing to do is find new people to set our values.
