Birth control, Ho Chi Minh, Richard Nixon back again

Moonshot, Woodstock, Watergate, punk rock

Begin, Reagan, Palestine, Terror on the airline

Ayatollah’s in Iran, Russians in Afghanistan

Wheel of Fortune, Sally Ride, heavy metal, suicide

Foreign debts, homeless Vets, AIDS, Crack, Bernie Goetz

Hypodermics on the shore, China’s under martial law

Rock and Roll, cola wars, I can’t take it anymore

Billy Joel – “We Didn’t Start the Fire

Benghazi, Boston bombings, the Gosnell trial, the Cleveland kidnappings, the IRS targeting conservatives, DOJ snooping on the AP, war games with Iran and North Korea, civil war in Syria…

Last week my ability to mentally process world events felt like a cell phone when the data is throttled — it was almost too much to wrap my mind around. Some days I fantasize about life as a low-information voter, not caring about anything more important than what some Kardashian is up to. Barring sudden brain malfunction, I’m not likely to experience that kind of apathy any time soon, and the fact that you’re reading PJ Media tells me that you’re likely in the same boat.

Instead of spending the weekend wallowing in all the terrible things happening in the country and around the world, I decided to instead consider many of the positive signs around us that all is not yet lost.

And so I bring you:

5 Signs That We Haven’t Lost America Yet:

America made it thru FDR, and if you read the history of his reign you'll see that BHO still only aspires to depths of government depravity FDR achieved in his 4 terms in office!! It's not a mistake that the fastest any Constitutional Amendment was ratified in modern times was the 22nd limiting the President to 2 terms in office right after FDR died. His body wasn't even cold when work began on getting the 22nd Amendment ratified.

There are some differences this time around, such as Soros trying to collapse the US dollar and Islamic apologists trying to undermine Constitutional Law in favor of Sharia law. But then again, FDR had Hitler and Chamberlain (the fool's fool), and the Nazi Party was pretty big in the US in the run up to WWII.

So maybe things aren't so different after all.

Yet we made it thru the 1930's with some scarring (Social Security, for instance). And I expect we'll make it thru today, but not without similar scars.

BTW- a casual reading of the 22nd Amendment would indicate that if BHO runs as VP in 2016, he IS eligible to succeed to the Office of the President. I have this theory that the Democrat ticket for 2016 is going to be an Obama/Obama ticket (Michelle and Barrack respectively), given that Michelle is talking about a Senate run in 2014, the same path BHO took. This gives a campaign that will be hard to beat since it brings three things to the table:

1. For better or worse, the Obama's are socially VERY popular, like political Kardashians, and can use the same 'social voter' strategy that won BHO the 2012 election. Putting the Obama's back in the Whitehouse would be popular with this crowd.
2. She would be the first woman president
3. She would be the first TRULY black president as BHO is actually mulatto.

It's a trifecta, and the political machine is already in place to make it happen.

And like in 2012, they would not run on the issues, they would run a ''Dancing with the Stars' type campaign like they did in 2012, and get the non-voter demographic to vote anyways...

There are no other potential candidates that the Obama machine could do this with, so it almost has to be an Obama/Obama ticket.

I'm sure many White Russian opinion leaders thought that there was reason for optimism well into the 1920s. The US Left like their Bolshevik forebears don't have to win the hearts and minds of the people, they just have to get a firm grip on the switches and levers of power, and they're almost there.

Paula, you're an incurable optimist.

I suggest that you go back before the Constitution and read the Declaration of Independence, specifically the list of complaints against George III. With the exception of quartering troops in private homes, is there anything there that the current administration hasn't done?

While the United States may not technically be dead, it is certainly no longer united, and it _will_ be dead if the current administration is allowed to remain in power for three more years.

My suggestions for everybody: 1) Learn or brush up a low-tech skill that you can barter for basic needs, 2) Insure that your vehicle is in tip-top condition, so that you can evacuate if necessary, 3) Keep a 30- to 60-day supply of essential items on hand, particularly food and medication, and 4) Buy more ammo - if you can find any.

Some may say that I am being alarmist. My reply: If I'm wrong, there's no harm done, but if I'm right... then you just might survive the coming collapse.

I would love to be able to live in your world, Paula, but I just don't see it. No one can honestly look at the trajectory of our society and claim we are overall becoming more conservative, more God-fearing, more moral, or more free. We are losing on every front. And despite little counterpunches here and there (e.g., the Tea Party), there is no sign of a turnaround on the horizon.

Not that this should shock anyone. Name one civilization that ever pulled itself out of a moral and systemic nosedive. You can't, because there has never been one. Societies only rediscover the importance of age-old foundations once they hit bottom, fall apart, and have to be rebuilt into something new. When you are struggling just to eat, you no longer have the luxury of being stupid about things like same-sex marriage, animal rights, and environmental fetishism.

It's going to get rough before it gets better. I just pray God will be merciful for the sake of his followers.

All good points, but until the Libertarian Republicans (primarily the Objectivist branch, who ally with Democrats and Socialists and want to rid America of Christianity) end their fight with Religious and Social Conservatives (Values Voters), we are toast. Christian Conservtives don't want to proselytize the world. However, we don't want to watch the slide down the slippery slope of a world where anything goes.

Conservatism is a viable alternative to the Democrat's Socialism. But, it usually takes a little time for the (young) citizen to get over "being cool," and face the real world. Hence the following blog posts:;postID=2551601492810806562;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=0;src=postname;postID=5935897278287573364;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=3;src=postname

I think you're forgetting "The Mayflower Compact", agreed to & signed by all before they left the ship. Without the proper foundations the walls will always crumble. Who was it that said that our form of government was meant for a Christian people? I'd love to see America return to it's roots of Freedom-Liberty-Of & by the people instead of a dictator, but without morals being taught in school & home, America as we've known her is doomed. Hope didn't change the Facts for the Titanic & won't for the USA either. We can't unring the immorality-bell, Dr Benjamin Rush was right. It's time to get our heads out of the sands of ironic hope and see America for what she has become. ANTI-GOD. Only a God sent revival can save us, but is that what God wants? I don't think so. Severe Adversity creates Christians not the iPad - iME group. Will man just STOP being greedy? No!

I appreciate Paula's optimism because that is what will save us and I assure you I share it. To most of the commentators here, however, I've never been a big believer in the power of negative thinking.

As it was for our Founders; confidence, determination and fearlessness are our greatest weapon in this battle we find ourselves in. Focus on the positive, the truth and what we know to be right.

Our country is indeed divided but perhaps this is actually a necessary test and these contrasts need to be drawn in order to remind us of who we are.

I'd like to see more columns like this - thanks Paula!

Paula has failed to take into account the growth of the Muslim population. According to the UN, Muslims will cover the earth within 40 years and your wives and daughters will be wearing burkas... Just as Obama intends

Paula, nicely written and of course, too optimistic.

Your point about fertility, I believe is too optimistic. The immediate future belongs the the Left (presidency and courts), this much seems clear.

Soon, Texas, Michigan and Ohio will become as reliably Blue as New York and Illinois, that will cement Leftwing Democratic control at the national level for a generation.

You may be right about a revival in the long run for conservatism -- that may indeed happen, but that will also happen in an America which will have very little in common with what you understood to be America in 2013. A different nation, with very different peoples, much less Protestant, and more more others.

FDR issued, from 1933 to 1945, 3466 Executive Orders. Talk about tyranny.
And We The People are suffering from his administration's socialistic excesses even til this very day. FDR's 'New Deal' was a "Texas Hold 'Em" poker game designed to hoodwink ALL American's into complacency and a "nanny-state" mentality as never before seen in these USA. More damage was done byFDR's administration and Woodrow Wilson's than any two Presidents before or since.Social security was FDR's crowning jewel and accomplishment! Did you know:
1)Social Security Cards issued in 1934, under FDR (remember, one year earlier he took the USA off a “Gold Standard”), up until 1980, expressly stated:
a. Both number and card were NOT to be used for identification purposes.
b.Since everyone in the United States (since 1934) has a Social Security Card and number and a national ID soon became necessary, its usage soon caused it to become mandatory in order for citizens to conduct financial transactions.
c. The printed message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was soon removed.

When Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
-No longer Voluntary
2.) That participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
-Now 7.65% on the first $90,000
3.) That money participants elected to put into the Program, would be deductible from their income(s) for tax purposes each year,
-No longer tax deductible
4.) That money participants put into the separate but independent. 'Trust Fund' (Al Gore’s now famous “Lock-Box”) rather than into the general operating fund, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, ONLY and no other Government program.
- Under Johnson, a Democrat, the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent (mostly on “earmarks).”
5.) That annuity payments to retirees would never be taxed as income.
- Under Clinton & Gore, Democrats, Up to 85% of citizen’s Social Security can be Taxed
Since many legal Americans have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month –
a. are now finding they’re getting taxed on 85% of the money that was paid to the Federal government to 'put it away in a non-existent “Lock-Box,”' may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Did you know there are socialists in our US House of Representatives? It's called the Democratic Socialists of America (since renamed the Congressional Progressive Caucus)!!!!!
There are a total on 82 "active" communist Representatives in We The People's US House of Representatives and another 92 "inactive" communists. This according to a signed written statement, under oath. question? How can these commies in the US House of Representatives lift their hand pledging to obey and defend the US Constitution?HUH????Wake-up America!!! She's on life support. Pray. Amen.

Just wait till Justice Kennedy sides with those who wish to destroy the Church in the coming Supreme Court rulings.

Kennedy is ostensibly Catholic. It will be interesting to see if he goes Vichy and destroys his co-religionists' First Amendment rights.

I'm taking a little encouragement from your article and appreciate the hope it conveys. My hope is in Christ and my citizenship is in heaven, my real country. But until He comes, I'll continue to pray for America to return to Him.

I don't always think that knowing something, like history or the Constitution or any of the philosophical musings of science or spirituality, makes the most difference -- what stands alone is a resentment for anyone with a head the size of a tennis ball telling me what it is I have to do to make them happy.
My rights and freedom are not an open debate to be decided by some jelly donut and his brother-in-law under the cover of darkness.
The difference between right and wrong never comes with a vote, which this regime has fixed already anyway -- time to end the misery.
There's the Hope 'n Change we all saw advertized on TV.
