Prayers for Barry Rubin
An update today, posted this morning at his blog:
i’m about to undergo an operation to attempt to drain the fluid from my lungs by inserting a tube. this will take 3-5 days and i will be in hospital. it is possible i will not be able to communicate during this time. they will then try to seal the lungs which if it succeeds will help me. we will then begin chemo and other therapies. the operation is said not be dangerous. please expect no correspondence or articles from me during this period. it is hoped that by next week i will be pretty normal and undergoing care. i have wonderful doctors. i hope and believe we will be together again in future. with all my gratitude for your being good readers and interested in my thoughts. i hope i have been helpful to you. please keep up the fight for what’s good and decent and right even when it costs us in personal and professional terms.

Get well soon – I like your perspective!
I hope all goes well and that you will be back with your commentary soon.

Refuah Shlaima
Dr. Rubin,
What is your Hebrew name and your mother’s name?
A year ago, our 19 year old son, an IDF combat soldier, got cancer. After 5 months of chemo he has made what promises to be a full recovery, though he’ll need follow-ups for a while yet.
We aren’t orthodox, but dozens of people said the Mi shberach prayer for him, and even put his name on emailed prayer lists circulating around the Jewish world. To quote his Orthodontist who wanted to pray for our son, “It may not help, but it can’t hurt”. (Christian and Muslim friends also told me that they prayed for our son, so we had all the bases covered).
If you don’t mind, and if you mention your Hebrew name and mother’s name, I will ask people to add you to their prayer lists, and will put you on my own (though, truth be told, I don’t get to shul that often).
Good luck with your treatment and Refuah Shlema.
I asked at Israellycool.com, and commenter mrzee responded with the Hebrew name:
Baruch ben Ilana.
(Bah-rukh ben Ee-lah-nah)
Hang in there Barry.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers!
