I think Disney will make a decent amount of money from the BD/DVD sales. Although generally panned by professional critics, regular folks who saw the movie liked it a lot. Check out the user reviews at Metacritic and Amazon, actual humans rate it much higher than the elite know-it-alls.
Actual humans *always* rate movies differently than the so-called professionals.
Eh? I read the book (the book the movie was based on, not the book based on the movie…).
The JC mess seems to be due almost entirely to inside-Disney power games, with intentional sabotage of marketing by one faction. I also suspect that one or more factions wanted a putative loss to hide revenue from elsewhere, a la Mel Brooks’ _The Producers_. JC was the pre-designated victim. And the-then Disney boss, having touted JC, was targeted by rivals who used the destruction of JC as one vehicle to get rid of him.
OTOH, there is the adage that one should not attribute to conspiracy that which can be explained by stupidity. Disney has had past issues marketing movies outside its comfort zone. I tend to doubt that, though, because the marketing sabotage took place a significant period in advance of release. Failure to effectively market a product is quite different from trashing it well before release, and the bad-mouthing here clearly started with Disney insiders.
That video cover says it all. Disney is doubling down on poor promotion. =>[.]<=
Paid two bucks to see this at a second tier theatre. I thought it was pretty good value for $2. Leave-your-brain-at-the-door fun.
