It’s interesting that a woman is facing 50 years in prison for decapitating her boyfriend’s piglet but if she killed him, she would probably face a lot less, with an average prison sentence of about six years. When a man’s life is worth less than a pig’s, it tells you something pretty sinister about our society.

None of those crimes, even together, justifies a 50 year sentence. You don’t get 50 years for armed robbery, let alone breaking and entering.
So she possessed Adderall. Couldn’t they just have hired an exorcist and removed the spell. I see a suspended sentence at most.

Generally the only ones with scros I see when I take my cat to the vet are the ones who’ve already been emasculated by the vets, which might also explain a lot.
Your comparison of “potential sentence for a number of crimes” (woman in article) to “actual sentence for one crime” (linked stats) is completely invalid. The “potential sentence” for murder is usually decades, even without the drugs or B&E.
A better comparison would have been the potential sentence for men who kill pets. But why be sexist? We’ll look at potential sentence for anyone who kills a pet:

I know women like to pretend math doesn’t exist because it’s difficult and hurts feelings, but 1-5 years is a lot less than “decades.”
So a woman can expect to get 1-5 years for killing a pet and 6 years for killing a person.
Women who commit murder can expect be sentenced to decades in prison, life in prison, and/or death. It depends on who she killed, and how, and why; how the prosecution and defense present their cases; and the jury.
Exactly like men who commit murder.

Perhaps in theory but not in practice. Women who kill their spouses average about 6.5 years in prison. Men who kill their spouses average 17 years in prison. It’s been that way for decades.
As to the death penalty, when was the last time a woman received one? It’s quite rare. Not so for men. Let’s just be honest about this particular gender gap.

The maximum sentence for animal cruelty is being compared to the average sentence for women convicted of spousal homicide.
Also: the linked source is a Bureau of Justice Statistics report compiled in 1995. The report gets the six-year figure from statistics for 1988. That’s over twenty years ago.
Yet another point: the six-year figure excludes life sentences.
And one final point: the same table gives an average sentence for men convicted of spousal homicide of 16.5 years. So this is really a “feminist” issue: a woman’s life is worth less than her dog’s, right?
If she had decapitated her boy friend, she would not get any prison time. She be committed to a mental institution, medicated, and released as cured. BTW, other women would speculate what is was that he did to make her do such a thing.

There is an old story about a judge in 19th century Texas who was asked why he punished those who stole horses more seriously than those who killed men.
