The only thing enjoyable about the video was seeing the car hit the wall. The host was incredibly annoying, and whatever that show is I get the sense it is a propaganda effort to get people into specific cars.
A show all about car wrecks and he gets leg tingles over a 120 M.P.H. wreck with an empty car? Telling us not to watch if we’re squeamish? Really? What kind of pansies do they raise in Great Britain?
He might have a brain aneurism if he sees the 140 M.P.H. head-on lick into a wall Jimmy Johnson had at Charlotte almost two weeks ago.
This is from Top Gear, right? I don’t think the presenter’s d-bag act is an act, I think he’s actually a d-bag. This is a typical set-piece of theirs, thirty seconds of you-tube quality video (I think they use the Ford Focus of camera men) presented over six minutes of jumpy repeats.
And of course Captain Obvious draws the wrong conclusion (“don’t put your foot in it”). The carnage is not caused by going 120 mph, it’s caused by hitting a concrete wall. If you’ve ever driven on a fast rural road, you probably passed a couple feet from another car at a closing speed of 120-plus. But you’re hear to read this because you stayed in your lane. You didn’t hit the other car — or the concrete wall. (It’s worse to hit a wall, because a car deforms when you hit it. A wall just sits there).
A barrier crash can and will kill you at far lower speeds. Indeed, you’d be hard pressed to find a highway patrolman or state trooper in the USA who hasn’t seen an accident aftermath like this, except with real people. Sometimes they even survive for a while, suffering. (Well, you wouldn’t survive 400g deceleration).
Germany manages higher speeds with greater safety than the US or UK, but they do it by restricting who drives and training them thoroughly. When they opened up the East, they had a huge accident bubble — equivalent of the .
Doesn’t look like the Top Gear guys – unless I missed a series and they hired new hosts. Pretty annoying, though.
This is from Fifth Gear, which is like Top Gear but without any of the humor (humour?) or intelligence.
You guys are such manly men…I’m impressed.
i was a reluctant skeptic when i saw the smart car being touted as the next demolition derby champion
I wonder what they’d have made of the 70s video of us launcing a Fiat off an Aircraft Carrier (to test it’s catapult)?
You could get a ticket and you might damage the wall.
