Science fiction writer Poul Anderson’s widow Karen is bringing out his entire backlist in e-Book format. The first release is the novelette Call Me Joe, out for 99 cents on Kindle complete with the original pulp-mag illustrations from Astounding. This is a great way to keep classics available, and you can’t beat the price. I hope that more authors will follow suit.

As a vintage sci-fi pulp magazine collector, let me explain that the reason Karen is starting with the original mid-’50s Astounding cover story “Call Me Joe” is because the text and especially Kelly Freas’s illustrations will establish exactly how much James Cameron’s “Pandora” is lifted wholly from this great novelette.
But it’s not available for the Nook, unless there is no DRM, so it can be converted. DRM bad, hurts sales. I won’t buy unless there is NO DRM.

Hey, I remember that cover! I think the original issue is packed away in one of my closets.
