“Conference aims to normalize pedophilia.”
This Daily Caller headline sent me into an emotional tailspin this week. I had to read the article several times and do a little Googling to ascertain whether this title was just tabloid sensationalism. It’s not.
From the Daily Caller’s lead paragraph:
If a small group of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals have their way at a conference this week, pedophiles themselves could play a role in removing pedophilia from the American Psychiatric Association’s bible of mental illnesses — the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), set to undergo a significant revision by 2013. Critics warn that their success could lead to the decriminalization of pedophilia.
I myself was raised by an avid acolyte of Dr. Alfred Kinsey and had my own “sexual repression” yanked out of me by repeated oral rapes beginning at about age 6. My father loved to talk about how he was raising a “sexually liberated” daughter and how fortunate I was to have this opportunity at forced fellatio. So, I am much more aware than most how pedophilia actually works in practice. I’m also aware of the lifelong psyche-scarring pain that results.
So, please forgive me if I do not cheer the efforts of mental health “professionals” and their lobby group of “Minor Attracted Persons” to lend even a shred of normalization to this strictly opportunistic desire to abuse children. As to the fantasies of sexually aberrant people, these are acted upon by scores of pedophiles every day – both in public and in private. And there is not a single incident of satiated pedophilic desire that does not involve a child victim, whether she or he is abused in person or through photographic or video-graphic exposure.
Pedophiles seem to believe that they can lay claim to the path paved by homosexuals, but they fail to understand – apparently – that there is one huge whopper of a difference between consensual adult sex and sex with a child, which can never – by sheer definition of childhood – be truly consensual. If pedophilic attraction does not cause the effected person distress, then that in itself would seem to indicate a mental disorder.
Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals must hold the line on this.
If they don’t, society is about to become much more dangerous for a great many more children.
I think the pedophiles might win in this. They’ll just say you’re being repressive and old fashioned and bigoted and not open for “other displays of sexuality” and so on. I mean, Oedipus-Schmoedipus, as long as you love your mother…
But I am surprised. I thought re-normalizing female slavery — that is, polygamy — would be next on the “liberated” folks’ list, since it’s so “Islamophobic” to be against it and everything.
I know. It is increasingly difficult to be skeptical and cynical, isn’t it? I mean, to be skeptical and cynical, you must have sane fellow citizens.
It’ll come. Muslims are also really into pederasty and consider males clean and females unclean. All male muslims first sexual encounters are homosexual – although they will never admit it. As long as they marry and produce children they won’t be hung as gay.
There is now a lawsuit pending. It is challenging laws against polygamy. I think it may succeed. Why? Because decades ago, such a case would never have been heard by the courts. “Good will be seen as evil, and evil seen as good.”
Every warning given by opponents of the normalization of homosexuality is being proven true. It was all solidly predicted. Now, people, especially those under 35, have come to accept homosexuality as okay, so other perversions are soon to follow as acceptable. It is as predictable as the sunrise.
Look for the lowering of age limits for sex, too. I was appalled when I was in Germany, that the age limit was 14. I was 19, and even so, I did not think a 14-yr-old was fair game. Did I have a problem with, say, two 15-yr-olds having sex with each other? No, not necessarily. (Not when I was 19. I know better, now.) I just did not think it was right for a grown man to pursue a child as a sexual conquest. Besides being creepy, it seemed just really unfair. A child is helpless before an adult.
Really, that is the appeal of children to these adults. It is the power. They get off on the dominance, a dominance they could not possibly have over their fellow adults. It is not seduction. It is power. Power corrupts. A synonym for corrupts is perverts. Power perverts.
So many of the problems we face today are the results of people seeking power, power over their fellow man. This is just another symptom of the malady.
Please examine the Jehovah’s Witnesses who go door to door and come on our property.

Many court documents and news events prove that Jehovah’s Witnesses require two witnesses when a child comes forward with allegations of molestation within the congregation. Such allegations have customarily been treated as sins instead of crimes and are only reported to authorities when it is required to do so by law, (which varies by state).
It has also been shown that child molesters within the organization usually have not been identified to the congregation members or the public at large. These people engage in a door to door ministry, possibly exposing children to pedophiles.
The Watchtower corporation has paid out millions in settlement money already.

One of the large psychiatry associations are hoping to define cigarette smoking as a “disease” now too.
So there you have it. Homosexuality, pedeophilia, will all be defined legally as normal.
The poor sap who smokes a cig, even outdoors with the outdoor smoking bans prevalent in most major CA cities and now NYC – will be labeled a criminal – and sent to jail.
The petty free choices become insane and illegal. What used to be considered socially unacceptable becomes the new sane, legal and encouraged/taught in schools.

Which pedophilia are we talking about here? Attraction to very small children? Attraction to preteens? Maybe attraction to young adolescents? It’s a more complicated field than you’d expect. And what about sexual attraction between people of the same age? Would you call a 14 year old boy with a 13 year old girlfriend a pedophile?
I expect the media has oversimplified the situation, and that there is much more to the proposal than we’re being told.
Perhaps you could be good enough to research this proposal further and report back.

Sorry to hear about your childhood and scarred emotions. With sympathy, I still have to say it the way it is.
Libertarian ideals, those are the ones that will eventually make the crime of pedophilia rape no longer a crime, at least in some places, and the range of those places will grow ever larger. It is practiced in Muslim countries openly and proudly. You mock us social conservatives because we fight the progression towards a more liberated world, but it is not the agnostic libertarians who will defend with their dying breaths if needed the children, it will be social conservatives and the mocked and belittled Christians.
I am starting to figure out that this society is already lost. It has a destiny with anarchy and worse in the mid term future. I just do not see the wake up call reaching the people, as they seem to be earnestly planning on staying out long past the time they should be fully rested.
And then we have people calling themselves priests who think it is perfectly ok to sexually abuse children, often boys. How is that possible? I think one explanation I heard is that attitudes toward pedophilia have changed. That only recently has it been treated as something really bad. Personally I think it says something really bad about the priesthood of the Catholic Church. It makes me wonder whether the priesthood is a gay cult.
Or perhaps that the priesthood was infiltrated?
The Catholic church could be dealing with what America’s dealing with: Leaders intent on bringing it down, or “fundamentally changing it.”
Or perhaps it’s the case that the media shapes the narrative.
Remember the media template when reporting on child molestation: 1.) If it’s a priest, he’s automatically guilty, because, come on, we KNOW that priests do that. 2.) If it’s a teacher, well, kids are more sophisticated these days, aren’t they? It was wrong, sure, but… 3.) If it’s a satanist, then that’s false memory syndrome!
So what are the figures? Is a priest more likely to molest a kid than a soccer coach or a drama teacher is? Is the media even interested in facts, or are they trying to insert a viewpoint into our heads?

At the risk of seeming impolitic, this is right out of the homosexual “rights” handbook of the ’70s when the homosexuals manipulated the American Psychological Association (during the great healings of the “I’m OK, You’re OK” period) into removing homosexuality from the diagnostic manual, something that just doesn’t seem to get mentioned much anymore. (I guess we’ve all progressived in that regard). It was a small step for some of mankind and there were no major homosex related epidemics for 10 or 15 years.
When I was back in the Bronx of the ’50s and ’60s, the neighborhood folk-wisdom was that it wouldn’t be a good thing to have homosexuals teaching in schools as some of them would end up propagandizing or worse for their dysfunction. Luckily none of that happened or continues to both happen and increase. As President Obama’s NAMBLA-philic “school safety” czar has done his damage and departed, I guess it’s up to other subversives elsewhere to drive what’s left of our culture even deeper into the dumpster of life.
Andrew Oldernquist noted that the APA’s claim that homosexuality is not a pathology makes as much sense as Constantine the Great’s claim ca. 350 AD that homosexuality causes earthquakes.
On second though, with this tremor in DC that cracked the Washington monument… one is tempted to think Constantine had the more reasonable position.
Well, I’ve been expecting the mental health professionals to “normalize” murder as just another active outdoor or indoor lifestyle in pursuit of the Darwin Awards for sometime now–an award normally awarded to individuals who manage to remove themselves from the living in truly interesting circumstances of mindless stupidity. Not to long ago two consenting adults could legally duel to their deaths; now dueling is illegal and we are more civilized and have illegal consensual drive by shootings over gang territory and drug market shares instead. The new client centered humanitarian prisons run by mental health professionals are overflowing with the deadly little gang bangers, especially in California, which would seem to suggest bringing back dueling as a normal male activity. More dueling less murders and fewer people doing time. Perhaps as a sop to our normal killers in the community, we could have just one day out of the year where there is no criminal or civil liability for any homicidal act by anyone regardless of race, creed, color, or sexual orientation? A Darwinian society of legal killers would be a polite society, with probably very few pedophiles.

People constantly defend rampant free sex by saying “It’s hard-wired into us; we have to propagate the species; we’re not supposed to have any self control!” Well, what could be more of an evolutionary imperative than killing your enemy? Let’s just say “killing people we hate is part of our DNA” and let’s get duelling back as a socially acceptable pastime!

Right. “Sharing and caring” is at one end of the social behavior spectrum. Killing people is at the other. It’s all “natural” behavior even if civilized people won’t usually admit it. The ultimate reason for killing members of your own species is to ensure that your DNA gets passed on and the other guy’s doesn’t. On the other hand, I can’t think of any natural reason for pedophilia to take place. It doesn’t contribute to individual, group, or species survival as far as I know. If you stretch your definitions a bit, you could say that homosexuality is just another type of emotional/social bond in which individuals cooperate in order to survive. I’m not sure the same can be said for “man-boy love.” (Don’t bring up the ancient Greeks, please. They’re, you know, ancient.)
I never understood the “I was born that way” excuse of the pedophiles. Well, I was probably born heterosexual. Does that mean I can now rape women, since I am naturally sexually attracted to them?
This is so dark to me that it’s almost hard to comprehend. Several of the people commenting make good points but I can’t believe that an explanation of why this is such a terrible idea is even needed. Man, this is depressing. Sadly, Kyle-Anne, the people behind this would probably respond to your personal tragedy by blaming your emotional trauma on society’s repressive sexual mores. See, if society were cool with child sex then the children wouldn’t feel like anything bad had happened to them. Instead, they’d see it as as normal part of sexual expression and exploration, just like masturbating or playing doctor. Wouldn’t that be nice? I’m not sure you could ever convince a true believer (or his shrink) that pedophilia actually hurts children, no matter what society thinks. I really hope this kind of thinking doesn’t become mainstream in the medical and psychiatric professions. Could cause a lot of damage.

It ain’t so, but I don’t think you actually wanted anyone to say that.
The message is a falsehood spread by the Daily Caller in order to generate fear and panic. The actual conference itself was about the conceptual and scientific issues involved in the diagnosis of pedophilia. There were some presenters who either argued for removing the diagnosis from the DSM or who came close to agruing for such. In both cases, a major part of the argument was that mental disorder diagnoses whose diagnostic criteria are too closely related to illegal behavior are generally a bad idea, and blur the line of what are appropriate roles for physicians vs. law enforcement officers. Their arguments in no way argued for the decriminalization of anything.
Really? If they say it is not a perversion, if they decide it is “normal”, what then? Does it then become societally acceptable over time? Crime is not prevented only by police. It is mostly prevented by social customs. If pedophilia gets normalized, then watch for lowering the age limits next. The criminality of it gets stripped away a piece at a time. It might take 50 years as did homosexuality, but it would happen. This is just a chunk of it.
The proper response is, “Don’t go there!” Only academics can be so guilty of such stupidity as to consider such concepts “rationally”. It’s perverted. “It’s just plain wrong, so just stop right there, dumbasses!” There is nothing to discuss. There is something sick in yourself, if you can entertain otherwise. Physician heal thyself.
If we are unwilling to address issues rationally, then there is no way that we can create effective public policy. Knee-jerk reactions are understandable, but they must not be treated as sacrosanct. Acceptance is a powerful form of social control, yet at present, people growing up discovering that they are attracted to children only receive messages that they’re monsters, demons, predators. And if they care about the well-being of others just as much as the next person–which is generally the case–they disbelieve these images, feel ostracized, are afraid to tell anyone, and will find communities where they find acceptance (especially online ones). Is forcing people into hiding, making them afraid to get help, and driving them to counter-cultures where they find acceptance a good way of motivating people to obey society’s rules?

The one point I havent seen anyone bring up here is the fundamental nature of pedophiles. I know a number of homosexuals, and they are relatively normal people in most respects. Pedophiles are different animals altogether. I have not seen or heard of a pedophile that was not a sociopath. If you look at all of their arguments and explanations, they are purely self centered and self serving. Nowhere will you find a genuinely sympathetic discussion of their victims. They always discuss children either as the objects of their desire or they discuss them in the abstract. It is impossible for them to do otherwise.
A sociopath is a thing that looks like a person, but isnt. They have no empathy, they have no conscience. For them, other people are merely objects to be used, manipulated, and thrown away, much the way you use paper towels. There is no emotion attached.
I spent a number of years working with sociopaths. Some were child killers, others child molesters. I once asked a man who had cut the throats of his own three sons, aged 7, 9, and 12, what he thought of that act. He responded ” Yeah, yeah, I did that.” . That was all he would say in a flat voice. He then asked what was for lunch.
As for the child molesters, I could never get used to them. The sight of them would make my skin crawl, literally. I would sometimes feel an overwhelming urge to flee their presence.
The only thing we need to normalize about pedophiles is their destruction. I use that word rather than killing because they are nothing more than animated objects, not people.
There *is* a definite correlation (not 100% of course) between male homosexuality and pedophila. The most cursory reading of history shows there has always been an element of homosexual men — or older teens — being attracted to pubescent boys and making use of them. And there is also evidence for quite a few of the victims following in their abusers footsteps, as happens with many other forms of abuse.

The ’100% born this way’ claim is bogus. At the margins it it can very much be acquired — mu social worker sister has always remarked on the high correlation, in her 20+ years of experience, between lesbians and sexual abuse by a male at a young age.
Or black men who were not ‘gay’ before being incarcerated for several years, continuing some of the practices they picked up in prison when they were no longer their only option (my sister was on various task forces working to help the young black women these guys infected with HIV)..
And even where genuinely born that way — which I believe does happen — it should neither be considered normal or just as ‘natural’. It is a dysfunction even if we decide that consenting adults should be allowed to be happy as best they can — in private.
One more thing — I saw an episode of Strange Addictions (I think) recently, and the person had this freaky adult baby fetish and was going to therapy for it.
The psychiatrist was helping the patient explore the likely roots of this in some weird abuse as a child.
The punch line? The same patient was also a late stage pre-op transsexual — a man mentally feeling he was really a woman (he was not someone with ambiguous genitalia). Resolving the adult baby bit was the only thing under consideration by the shrink.
The man’s desire to cut his junk off was seen as ‘normal’ and off-topic.
