The First Amendment is a brilliant check against the government. For centuries, newspapers and columnists have used press freedom to hold the government accountable. Yet today, some media organizations have the singular purpose of defending the government. They also do things the government can’t do directly, like attack particular American citizens.
Consider the attacks on former PJ Media contributor and now Big Journalism editor Dana Loesch. Loesch said that she had no problem with the video of American soldiers urinating on dead Taliban fighters — “I’d drop trou and do it to.” It wasn’t clear if Loesch was being sarcastic, but it hardly matters.
Predictably, leading the indignant outrage was Media Matters, an outfit funded by the convicted felon George Soros. They’ve devoted bold red fury to her comments, stopping just short of calling for her to be roasted on a spit.
Media Matters specializes in defending the government through scattershot internet smears against anyone who effectively criticizes said government. In olden days, this task fell to state-run media and occasionally rough thugs who stepped in when propaganda just wasn’t enough. Today, the administration outsources their dirtiest work to groups like Media Matters.

Dana Loesch is their latest target for a simple reason — thugs like Eric Boehlert at Media Matters only attack the most effective critics of the government, and particularly those who cannot be easily cowed. They don’t waste energy smearing conservatives at some websites who ponder topics as scintillating as how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. They don’t waste time on conservative news outlets that either don’t understand the modern Left, or have never effectively opposed it.
Thanks for bringing up Menchaca and Tucker as it puts things in their proper perspective. People have a strange view of war, especially if they’re outraged over urinating on dead bodies. It then becomes a question of the information those critical of these types of misdeeds have access to. The information is always the same in regard to war and that is that war is brutal and insane. Urinating on corpses is the least of it.
American soldiers in the European theater in WW II rather commonly killed German prisoners, contrary to the image handed down by history and so it remains only for people’s delicate sensibilities to be brought around to reality. The reality remains that Taliban prisoners in American hands would not willingly change places with American prisoners in Taliban hands and that is its own commentary.

In Israel, there were suicide bombers that targeted civilian buses. A council of rabbis determined that some suicide bombers would be deterred if a small package of lard was openly carried aboard each bus, and if that was true, it would be morally wrong to not carry such a small package of lard.
If knowing that their corpse would be defiled by lard, or urine upon their death would reduce Taliban recruitment, then it would be morally wrong to not defile Taliban corpses.
Did this really happen? And where would they get lard?

As for the Sorosbots, they know perfectly well what they’re doing, but they have an agenda. They’re willing to do anything in service to that agenda. That is what neocommunists do.
As a matter of policy, if it deters the Taliban from fighting, I’d suggest, stuffing these guys with pig entrails and wrap them up in pig skin, then bury them. While it seems to me to be a silly belief that what happens to your body after death outweighs what you did in life, if it works, we should do it. Pissing on the dead Taliban is disrespectful and crude. The tropers that did it probably deserve a reprimand or letter of admonishment, to deter similar conduct by others. It does not deserve a court marshall or loss of rank. But there is no comparison to Taliban or El quaida outrages, like filming the beheading of an inncoent civilian journalist.
We end up with a double standard, because people expect the Taliban to be vile, while they do not expect any bad conduct from our troops, so even minor incidents like this get blown up out of proportion.

The Obama administration is not part of the press – so JCA is being purposely disingenuous in suggesting that Media Matters is being delinquent in not holding the administration to account. But that kind of thing is typical of this site. (MM will point out how organs like the NYT, CBS, WaPo etc – the supposedly “liberal” media – echo right wing propaganda. Just go check their site if you don’t believe it.)

January 11, 2012: Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, campaigns at The Hall at Senate’s End, in Columbia, S.C.
It might be unseemly to bring this up just as Mitt Romney celebrates his win in New Hampshire on Tuesday night and seems to be a strong front-runner for the GOP nomination. But the story of his putting his dog in a carrier on his car roof for a 12-hour family trip is spreading again on the Internet and disturbs me the more I learn about it.
In brief, as the Boston Globe first reported in 2007, in 1983, Mitt Romney, then 36 years old, drove his station wagon packed with five sons and his wife on a 12-hour trip from Boston to Ontario, where his parents had a cottage on Lake Huron.
He took a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon’s roof rack, built a special windshield, and put his dog Seamus into the carrier, where the dog remained for the 12-hour trip.
Was the dog distressed? Was it illegal under Massachusetts law as cruelty? There is some evidence that both are true.
During the trip, the Boston Globe reported, Romney’s oldest son, Tagg, looked around through the rear window and yelled, “Dad — gross!” A brown liquid was dripping down the back window — diarrhea from an animal that just might have been caused by the stress of being inside a cage for 12 hours on top of a car going 60 mph.
And what did Romney do, even after knowing of the dog’s diarrhea? Did he realize that perhaps Seamus should be shown some mercy, cleaned up and allowed in the car, to sleep on someone’s lap?
No.
Here’s how the Globe described what Romney then did:
“As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway. It was a tiny preview of a trait he would grow famous for in business: emotion-free crisis management.”
Emotion-free crisis management??!
I love animals, especially dogs. I don’t like people who are cruel to animals. I am told it is illegal in Massachusetts to put an animal on a car roof while driving. Had I been the local sheriff, I would have arrested him.
But I am a forgiving person. If today Romney, looking back, were to say, “You know, in retrospect, that was a cruel thing to do to our dog — I was young, it was a long time ago, I am sorry” — if he said that today, I’d forgive him.
But instead — Romney being Romney — he defaults into saying something utterly implausible. He recently told Fox’s dog-loving Chris Wallace that Seamus actually loved it up there!
He then told Wallace that the dog was in an “air-tight container,” not mentioning the diarrhea.
Air-tight container??!
This is the ultimate Purple Issue — it cuts across Republicans, Democrats, blue states, red states, liberals and conservatives.
There are more than 78 million Americans who own one or more dogs — about two out of every five households. A Google search of “Romney Dog on Car Roof” brought me 1,080,000 results.
I don’t know how many of these 78 million dog owners (and thus, dog lovers) have yet heard or read about Romney doing this horrible thing, much less making his disingenuous claim that Seamus loved the experience on top of a speeding car for 12 hours, while his bowels turned to water.
But I’m thinking if this story gets out and stays out, there will be tens of millions of Google hits by next October. And I am also thinking that Romney is going to lose a lot of dog-lover votes on this issue alone, regardless of party or ideology.
Here’s one dog lover’s opinion — mine:
I think anyone who puts his dog in a cage on top of a car for a 12-hour drive and then deludes himself or tries to delude others that the dog really enjoyed it — to me, with all due respect, I feel such a man shouldn’t be president of the United States.

And then, having gotten a young man to internalize this, you’re going to teach him that peeing on the body is disrespect?

I don’t know! I’ve noticed more and more of late a growing sense of satisfaction bordering on glee in direct proportion to the level of the tizzy exhibited by the Left.
