I’m pretty sure I remember as a kid watching an ABC Schoolhouse Rock segment on why America had a revolution to castoff the monarchy. There was even a Bicentennial celebration in 1976 to celebrate its 200th anniversary, which I’m sure ABC must have covered at least a little bit that year. And as Ben Shapiro wrote in his 2011 history of how old media went left, Primetime Propaganda, ABC was the original liberal-themed channel as far back as the mid-60s. But prior to the rise of PC, even liberalism at least paid lip service to democracy — its home was in a party that called itself “Democrats” just to remind themselves of this. Curiously, one of their high-ranking former staffers is now a prominent member of ABC News, yet the House of Stephanopoulos has gone Barack to the Future, as John Nolte notes at Big Journalism:
ABC News takes the cake, though, with its fawning listicle titled “50 Ways to Celebrate Michelle Obama’s Birthday.” The list is really nothing more than a list of all the reasons ABC News thinks the First Lady is OMG Awesome! Included in the list…
Make the cover of Vogue, Buy a Jason Wu dress, Get bangs, Watch Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” on your first date with your future husband, Laugh out loud, Roll your eyes at House Speaker John Boehner or the Danish prime minister, Shop at Target with sunglasses on.
Reminder, this is ABC News doing this, not TMZ or BuzzFeed.
Huh; personally, I’d rather question authority rather than pay homage to it. That may seem old fashioned in an era in which the MSM open proclaims that “we’re all working for Obama” — but it’s newer than 1776, unlike the current ever-backwards worldview of ABC.
John Podhoretz’s tweet responding to ABC’s Evita Peron-like worship is brutal:
I have one: Be proud of your country for the first time. http://t.co/aS7SJ8Ksd9
