Befuddled Central Planner in Chief Discovers Complexity Of Real Life

November 14th, 2013 - 2:30 pm

Cartoon by Michael Ramirez of Investor’s Business Daily.

“Obamacare, meet Hayek,” James Pethokoukis writes at the American Enterprise Institute Website:

The entire of Obama press conference today played out like some Hayekian cautionary tale where a befuddled central planner complains about the complexity of real life. As the president put it: “What we’re also discovering is that insurance is complicated to buy.”

Yup, reality is more complicated on the ground than from 30,000 feet or from White House meeting rooms. But Obama’s discovery has led to no humility. In theory, insurers might be able to extend health insurance policies — ones that might otherwise be canceled — next year for current policyholders, thanks to Obama’s administrative decision today. But maybe only in theory.

Pethokoukis goes on to quote Jim Donelon, president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and insurance industry consultant Robert Laszewski, who question what Al Gore would call the president’s risky retroactive scheme, which aims to put a band-aid on the giant tumor caused by his now-infamous repeated “if you like your plan you can keep your plan” lie. Add to the criticism of the insurance industry the flat-out nos from Democrat insurance commissioners Mike Kreidler in Washington state and Jay Bradford in Arkansas on allowing residents to keep their cancelled plans, and the train wreck thunders on, unabated.

Oh, and the president — who seems to be learning new and “unexpected” facts of life on a daily basis – admitted learning something new and novel that the rest of us already understood intuitively:

What a difference a month makes:

As Stacy McCain writes:

It’s an endless tsunami of political pain for Obama nowadays. When your signature issue goes sideways, there’s really nowhere to hide when you’re the Leader of the Free World. Has anyone else noted the irony that ObamaCare now is basically “Bush’s War” circa 2006?

Everyone is now realizing that this massive failure is an electoral albatross for Democrats going into 2014. I’m starting to hear talk from GOP operatives about their campaign plans, and they’re just absolutely loving the political environment that is developing. Scarcely had Obama’s Awful Press Conference From Hell ended than the NRCC‘s rapid response team shot out a Twitchy-style roundup of Twitter reaction, “12 Tweets That Explain What An Unmitigated Disaster Obama’s Press Conference Was,” some of which I’ll just steal.

Stacy’s post is titled, “Shorter Obama: ‘It Sucks to Be Me’

James Pethokoukis’ post quoted at the top of the page could be shortened to TANSTAFL, which Mr. Obama would have known, had he even read the comic book edition of The Road to Serfdom* that was distributed a pre-Government Motors GM. In other words, today’s Barackian clusterSCOAMF is all yet another reminder that, as GK Chesterton wrote a century ago, “Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.”

Exit quote: “Finding myself in agreement with Howard Dean is surreal. So is watching a president ignore the rule of law with impunity.”

* Of course, that assumes he didn’t already read it not as a warning, but as a how-to guide.

Earlier: All Hail Hanna-Barbera Care!

Obama has never held a real job in his life. This result is no surprise to those of us who listened to what he said on the campaign trail.

Chairman Obama's Great Leap Forward in healthcare is beginning to look more like the Great American Health Insurance Famine. What better way to educate emotionally driven voters on the perils of central planning than to compel them to purchase half the policy at twice the price?

The problem is logic and cognitive ability.

We have it. But >50% of the country doesn't. And their votes count about 115% of ours.

So this is fun to watch, but so have been dozens of other lesser catastrophes during the last 5 years. Failures don't seem to affect this guy. He seems to know some things we don't; which I suspect are that it isn't possible to overestimate the impact of 5 decades spent dumbing down the American electorate, that shiny objects are infinitely appealing to said dummies, and that Pravda on 24x7 red alert overcomes any amount of logic and cognitive ability.

I ‘m happy to grab the small pleasure of smirking, but I don’t ever expect to be able to gloat again.

Befuddled my Arse..

Two words people. Cloward Pivin.

“Cloward and Piven were a married couple who were both professors at the Columbia University School of Social Work”

"The Cloward–Piven strategy...called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty"

So, they're doing it with the Healthcare Industry right now...same objective, same strategy....Mandate it, overload it with absolute, pure physical impossibilities, and crash the whole thing in flames on purpose...

Make it so F-ed up that NO existing laws or "constitutional powers" can possibly clean up this mess...it will REQUIRE the Instantaneous, on the fly, Lordly Decree of a Dictator. We’ve seen it already with the Employer Mandate…

Extend this. Change that. Re-cancel the other thing...Go back, jump ahead…right now, by Directive, by Executive Order...

No time to re-write something through congress...the building is on fire, and folks are trapped inside…just stand back and let us work, we’ll settle up the bills and the blame later, after the smoke clears.

Why else do you think this fiasco was voted on in the dark of night? Did any rational person involved NOT know this would occur? Cloward Piven a DOCUMENTED Columbia University Strategy the left has been in love with for 50 years, and they have a history of applying it to everything they can…

Open Borders AND Amnesty? Food stamps AND Obama Phones? Guns to Mexico, AND a “catch and release” program for all the “active shooters” in the Ghetto’s?

Buy votes AND weaken the Nation?
Arrange the Cockfights, AND consolidate power?
This is what they DO.

Torturing the public with healthcare chaos is a FEATURE not a Bug.

This is no mistake.
This is not befuddlement. It’s the simple, cynical theatrics of “no good crisis going to waste”, and Poor Barry Under Siege is part of the plan…OOPS, I walked in the wet concrete? Hurry up and hand ME the trowel...

They will get their way, sooner or later….the innumerable fires they’ve (already) set, and perpetually stoke will keep burning until they DO.

I worked for over 40 years in the federal, state and local government and government started forcing Cultural Marxism i.e. political correctness over 40 years ago with affirmative action.

I'm reminded of the story of Marie Antoinette being told that the people were rioting because they had no bread. Her order in response: "Then let them eat cake."

The title should read "....discovers the complexity of real life, and then goes golfing"

At first today, I relished the idea of Obama having to eat crow. The idea that the Democrats were making him like it was too good to be true. Upon reflection, it just may be. There are another 38 months of his presidency left with plenty of opportunity for shenanigans. Something tells me that a loser Obama is a vicious Obama. There is going to be hell to pay for this and I wouldn't want to be in his line of fire. Or Michelles's.
His environment is, as they say, target rich. I believe that some in his inner circle will go first. And all but Valerie are vulnerable. Seibelius of course. And others. But I see some wrath being saved for Pelosi and Reid. Others might include Landreau of Louisiana and even Durbin. But I sense his anger is going to come out against the TeaParty in a big way. After a fashion, they were responsible for this. It's a damn good thing Cruz is a freshman senator not facing reelection. But I think the American people are going to be made to suffer for this. And I hope that his response is big enough and mean enough that he does become the target of impeachment after the 2014 elections. Say... January 1st, 2015. You just know the guy is pissed tonight.

King Obamessiah and His wife are parasites and love living in luxury at others expense without doing any work. So the more time passes and the closer He is from living office, His exasperation will grow at the thought of giving up the current lifestyle. The King is bound to became nastier and nastier, regardless of the political/economic/any environment.

The good thing is as a beta-male, Obama doesn't have the guts to put his own fingerprints of the retaliation -- if a Lois Lerner type at one of the federal agencies wants to do it, or if Harry Reid wants to embark on a kamikaze mission in the Senate, he might.

But Obama's never been the alpha male leader -- at best, he's the guy who runs out of the crowd, throws the Molotov cocktail at police, and runs back in again before he's identified or arrested. He won't scuttle his main handlers like Jarrett, because that would mean doing the dirty work and taking the responsibility Valerie and other top aides have now. His vindictive actions -- like everything else Obama does -- is dependent on others doing the work behind the scenes for him.

Obama's "fix" is more to fix the blame than fix the problem. Just look at his statement: "What we want to do is to be able to say to these folks, you know what, the Affordable Care Act is not going to be the reason why insurers have to cancel your plan."

Exactly. They tried to blame the cancellations on the insurance companies to start and that hasn't stuck, so now he's pivoting to place the blame on them in another way.

He's not befuddled. He knew all along. This is him trying to be all, "Aw, shucks." He is trying for sympathy by trying to be humble.

Of course, he rambled the whole time. It was abominable and boring.

Central planner? 404, dude. "Community organizer" is a long way from central planner. Basically "community organizer" is the cow, and "central planner" would be the cowboy. Obambus doesn't go to those golf courses to play, he goes to browse on the grass.
