“Exclusive: Kermit Gosnell Says He Is ‘Spiritually Innocent’ — and Sends Abortion-Inspired Poetry from Prison,” Philadelphia magazine reports:
Gosnell contends he is “innocent” of the charges against him, laying out complicated—and not particularly credible—reasons he should have been found not guilty. When Volk asked him if he was actually referring to his own sense of “spiritual innocence,” Gosnell responded, “Yes.”
Gosnell said he considers his cosnviction to have been motivated by religion and politics. “I have come to believe that the presumption of guilt was compounded by religious convictions,” Gosnell said. “ … Were you aware that Seth [Williams, Philadelphia’s district attorney] was an altar boy? Did you know of the strong Catholic presence in the homicide division?”
Well, we can’t have that, can we? (Wait ’til Gosnell hears about Frank Rizzo.)
Gosnell is also writing pro-abortion poems while in jail (one of which Philadelphia magazine quotes in their article). And speaking of which, ABC news adds:
Kermit Gosnell, the former abortion doctor sentenced to life in prison for his role in three murders that took place at his Philadelphia clinic, has said that he performed hundreds of illegal abortions as “a soldier in a war against poverty.”
Based on that last quote, Gosnell is evidently a big fan of Billy Preston’s mid-’70s solo albums as well, which couldn’t have done much for his sanity.
