Slaughterhouse Pinch

February 22nd, 2013 - 11:11 pm

Presumably, the Boston Globe is doomed, based on this over-the-top vote of confidence from its Manhattan overloads:

New York Times Co. vice chairman Michael Golden told Boston Globe employees Friday that the company has a duty to seek the highest bidder in a sale but hopes to leave the newspaper in responsible hands.

“We have no intention to send the New England Media Group to the slaughterhouse,” he said in one of three town-hall style meetings with employees.

The slaughterhouse? Did Paul Krugman approve such violent-sounding primitive eliminationist rhetoric from a fellow Timesman?

In other words, he's pleading for some rich leftist who wouldn't mind having a vanity newspaper and has so much money that he wouldn't mind losing oodles of it publishing this albatross for some number of years. That's the route Newsweek went the first time it was sold and the marraige of dying rag and money to burn didn't last all that long. Be interesting to see if anyone steps up to the plate for this one.
