High School Teacher Employs Proven Career Advancement Technique
“South Carolina teacher on leave for stomping on American flag in front of class,” the Daily Caller reports:
A high school teacher in South Carolina is under investigation and has been placed on long-term administrative leave after he allegedly threw an American flag on the floor and stomped on it in front of his students.
Scott Compton, an English teacher at Chapin High School in Chapin, S.C., reprised the unpatriotic deed in three classes over the course of one day, reports local NBC affiliate WIS.
No word yet if the University of Illinois at Chicago has already put an employment application in the mail to Compton.

Mr. Compton is exactly correct: the U. S. flag is just a piece of cloth that doesn’t mean anything. Too many people worship that piece of cloth and espouse the “my country right or wrong” belief. Such beliefs should be discouraged by everyone: left, right, democrat, republican, libertarian, etc. A national flag is a symbol, but only a symbol, and trashing a symbol should not be treated as a crime (or a sin).
The flag is a symbol of our nation; a symbol of something larger than ourselves to which we, as a group, choose to belong. I do not expect you will understand working towards what is good for our country through service and self-sacrifice.
