Quote of the Day

Look around you. From now on, it gets worse. In ten years’ time, there will be no American Dream, any more than there’s a Greek or Portuguese Dream. In twenty, you’ll be living the American Nightmare, with large tracts of the country reduced to the favelas of Latin America, the rich fleeing for Bermuda or New Zealand or wherever on the planet they can buy a little time, and the rest trapped in the impoverished, violent, diseased ruins of utopian vanity.
– Mark Steyn, After America.
Update: “Finita La Commedia,” writes Kyle Smith.

Having touted the similarities between the original campaigning and the lack of success in governing between Barack Obama and David Dinkins, I was truly expecting an end result on Tuesday similar to what happened in 1993, when voters in New York narrowly tossed out Dinkins in favor of Rudy Giuliani. My mistake, I think was in not understanding that death trumps debt — that is, the social safety net that’s been built by spending tomorrow’s money allowed Team Obama to kick the can down the road far enough so that 8 percent unemployment to the contrary, not enough people have suffered in the past four years to make them change their vote.
The people in New York switched in 1993 because the main issue was personal safety. New Yorkers may not have felt as threatened as Ambassador Stevens on 9/10/12 in Benghazi, but there was a palatable fear for their own well-being, which is one of, if not the main issue mayors are elected on. In contrast, Obama gambled and won that making the sequestration deal with Boehner would push any true financial woes past the election. And as Allah noted in a Hot Air post on Wednesday, the exit polling showed that younger voters — the least financially savvy of any — actually turned out in greater numbers for Obama this time around, canceling out any Romney advantage among seniors.
With the stigma of 20 somethings living in their parents homes vanishing, and the definition of ‘impoverished’ now meaning you can only afford an iPhone 4s instead of an iPhone 5 thanks to unsustainable debt levels of spending, the public fear for their financial safety just isn’t there yet. The bill for all the spending hasn’t come due either on the state level in places like California or the national level, and as a result, people who either still have their job and/or are too young to remember the economic pain of the late Carter years didn’t see the urgency to switch to Romney.
The scary part is some of these same people may never grasp that you can’t do credit card spending forever while just making the minimum payment. If crunch time comes in the next four years, like enough California voters this past Tuesday, they may decide why not just keep raising taxes on the rich and try to kick the can down the road another few years, instead of making any changes to their comfortable-enough-for-them lifestyles? If that’s the case Democrats may still get away with blaming Republicans for not wanting to wage class warfare on the rich and jack maximum tax rates back to their pre-Reagan or even late-World War II era levels.
Oh, it won’t be so bad, think about how ‘vibrant’ our culture will be!
Nobody wants to understand this.
Twenty-four hours have passed and everybody is busy talking politics as usual.
The minority groups that voted overwhelmingly for Obama are turning once-great America into the hellhole 3rd-world countries from whence they came. Ironic, isn’t it? They come here to escape tyranny & oppression, and then vote to turn America into a mirror image of the tyranny & oppression from which they escaped. Immigrants are supposed to melt into the pot called America – not ‘transform’ it . . . but transforming it they are.
I agree; housing costs mean the first shanty towns in America are just around the corner. They’ll be constructed on public land, the press will come out as well as all the race-baiters and they’ll demand plumbing and electricity because of health risks to the poor. It’s only a matter of time til the OWS morons figure this out.
Eventually libs will sell tours like a zoo to idiotic upwardly mobile slummers just like they do in Rio de Janeiro.
Sigh, the wonderful world of immigration. Fork, do your stuff.

Have we reached
Peak Oil? Maybe
Peak White Men? Definately -
Unfortunately they invented every product, service, business, charity, law, public institution, etc etc that seperated us from brutal 3rd world living conditions.
