The Era of New Civility Remains Over

January 30, 2012 - 4:58 pm - by Ed Driscoll

Past performance is no guarantee of future results:

Is that the use of the – I’ve never seen the floor used like this. I mean I worked on the Hill, you’re a member, elected member. I’ve never seen politicians come on and say their purpose in life is to say their purpose is to end someone’s political career. To defeat another politician. Isn’t there any minimal, minimal civility left? That somebody like Bachmann – well first of all she’s there. She was elected. Nobody can do anything about that. But there she is saying her purpose in life, right now, is to eliminate a presidency. Do you think that’s good politics? To just talk like that?

Speaking of pointing fingers, any pius platitudes from Brian Williams on Obama pointing his middle finger during his debate with Hillary?

  2. It is a mistake for Republicans to say “We must defeat President Obama”. Surely, that is a comment about policy, but the Left spins it as being racism. They say it is a personal attack on the man. Sadly, some fraction of independents are swayed by this.

The statement must always be “Regardless of Obama’s intentions, his policies have not worked and will not. He has not communicated the overall plan which he is working for. His individual actions and policies have all eliminated freedoms and increased government influence and costs. Those government interventions have destroyed wealth for our country, not built it.”

Actually, it is a mistake for Republicans to open their mouths. No matter what they say, Democrats will spin it to their advantage. And much of the spin will involve personal attacks – charges of being extreme, stupid, or racist. Rather than censor our speech, let’s say what we think and then aggressively counter the spin. Don’t let them dictate the terms of the discourse.

    good one there James.

Does this mean they don’t rock at “Rock Center?”

Sorry Andrew, but “we must defeat this traitor” works just fine for me … the left will call us racists no matter WHAT excuse we give for ousting their Messiah.

    • The test is what works to engage people who are not already convinced. The headline should be “Stop these policies” rather than “Stop the traitor”, to get quality attention.

People who understand less start out by judging the tone of the criticism. Let the independent votor decide for himself whether Obama must go, by presenting policy rather than by seeming to attack the man.

Proof positive that in the leftist propaganda machine, there is a direct chute linking the piehole to the memory hole.

I would add the last “hole” befitting these people, but it appears sufficiently self-evident ab initio

It’s like the whole “civility” thing was just a ruse by the D’s to silence their opposition by waving the not-yet-cold cadavers left behind by Jared Loughner.
