At Forbes, Daniel Freedman writes:

If all goes according to plan, by December 2012 a team of three young Israeli scientists will have landed a tiny spacecraft on the moon, explored the lunar surface, and transmitted live video back to earth, thereby scooping up a $20 million prize (the Google Lunar X Prize), revolutionizing space exploration, and making the Jewish State the third nation (after the U.S. and Russia) to land a probe on the moon. Thanks for posting this. It sounds like a serious effort.

Two thoughts come to mind. 1) If they can do this for $10M, it sounds like it would be nearly as significant as the initial moon landings. What it would signify, seems to me, is the incredible advances in computer, communications and miniturization technologies that we all now take for granted. Isn’t big government wonderful ;-) 2) What a triumphant contrast this would present to the world between Israel and the other countries in the Middle East.
