Racist Nostalgia at the Village Voice

November 13, 2010 - 1:38 pm - by Ed Driscoll

Ann Althouse reads Roy Edroso of the Village Voice so you don’t have to, and spots him writing:

Amy Alkon is upset that a program in a Canadian city is asking honkey citizens to “acknowledge your white privilege” as a consciousness-raising exercise. Alkon calls this a “Vile Racist Campaign Against Racism,” and seems to believe it’s going to have “children grow up thinking they’re bad people by virtue of their skin color.”

Actually, I find it useful to contemplate my white privileges, and any other privileges into which I was born, like being a citizen of the richest country on earth, and did not obtain for myself. In fact, when I was growing up, it was customary for adults to remind children of such luck as they had inherited, like the food we had and “people starving in other countries” didn’t. This was meant as a spur to gratitude and humility, and to not being such a whining little s***.

Ann replies:

He’s reacting to a program that in which government officials are prodding adult citizens to think about how privileged they are. The analogy to a parent-child relationship comes so easily to the left-wing mind.

In more ways than one.

    Mr. Driscoll:
“Amy Alkon is upset that a program in a Canadian city is asking honkey citizens to “acknowledge your white privilege” as a consciousness-raising exercise.”

WTF? Are Canadians so envious of the United States that they step up to the plate and assume white guilt for the slavery that they didn’t have?

If they want to feel guilty about something, be ashamed of inflicting Celine Dion upon the world, okay?

Althouse, a hard Leftist and crypto-Communist who supported Obama, is being kind here supply cover by calling such a relationship “parent-child.” Her concept of parent-child, like that of her ally Alkon and favorite President Obama, is that of the Maosists, wherein the state is loving father/mother of us all. The correct analogy, but one Althouse is can’t use, is that of “child molester-child.” A correct description of her own ideas who horrify her and strip her of her self-delusions.

One of the city councillors behind this ‘aknowlege your white privlege’ campaign is Amarjeet Sohi, an east Indian. He’s concerned because white people have an easier time renting an apartment than natives (think Sioux or Iroquois). Yes you read that correct, an east Indian is bothered that white people have the privlege of renting an apartment. Mr. Sohi doesn’t live in an apartment nor does he live in a neighborhood enriched by many (if any) natives. Note also that Mr. Sohi voiced his racist opinion right after a civic election in which he was privleged enough to have many white people vote for him.

Multiculturalism does not work. Assimilation does not work. Hotair had another (of many) stories of the American Flag being forbidden in US schools, because Mexican kids threaten violence. This on Veteran’s Day. Britain has Muslims screaming that British soldiers will go to hell and burning poppies on Remembrance Day (Armistice Day).

The fallout of this is obvious. Lack of money, lack of an able, and brutal dynasty to keep a “multicultural” society going (the Austro-Hungarian empire, Lee Kwan Yew, Tito, Stalin, the Roman Emperors) means disintegration and re-invention of nations along Dark Ages dynastic lines.

Multiculturalism never works. It is by its nature unstable. With no unity to provide margin for disasters that always come up. No Multicultural state or regime can provide freedom, prosperity, and stability. It can at best, and this it the best, provide stability and prosperity for some, at the expense of brutal purges of others, based on race/religion.

This is the judgment of history. Short of an immortal dictator, with unlimited manpower and money, this is how it will always be. Always ending in tears, as the most able/brutal pass away: Tito, Franz Joseph, Constantine, Stalin.
