That’s Iowahawk’s response to Fidel Castro only just now, figuring out, at an age slightly older than Yoda, that Castronomics is a bust:

HAVANA – Fidel Castro told a visiting American journalist that Cuba’s communist economic model doesn’t work, a rare comment on domestic affairs from a man who has conspicuously steered clear of local issues since stepping down four years ago.

The fact that things are not working efficiently on this cash-strapped Caribbean island is hardly news. Fidel’s brother Raul, the country’s president, has said the same thing repeatedly. But the blunt assessment by the father of Cuba’s 1959 revolution is sure to raise eyebrows.

Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cuba’s economic system was still worth exporting to other countries, and Castro replied: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore” Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog.

On the other hand, Castro’s epiphany might just be proof that his universal education initiatives can actually produce results.

Fidel may give up, but there are a few million people in the Democratic Party, and at least a few thousand running things in Washington, who aren’t throwing in the (government-owned) towel yet…

What is interesting about the Goldberg interviews with Fidel is that Fidel sends a message to Ahmadinejad that is rather philo-semitic. I wonder how Thugo Chavez would take that, as i)he is Fidel’s lapdog and ii) he has expressed anti-Semitic sentiments over the years.

That being said, Fidel ruined Cuba. Renaissance and Decay sums it up rather well. Check out milk production.

So it’s true, even a blind socialist squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. Took him long enough. Not a fast learner, is he?

Just wait! Lefties the world over will take this to mean that Castro wasn’t extreme and ruthless enough in his pursuit of a Just, Fair, and Moral Socialist Utopia.

Just as George Washington’s doctors were convinced that since their patient had not improved after treatment, their only recourse was to continue to bleed him to let the ill humours drain from his body.

Or in modern business-speak: “The floggings will continue until morale improves!”
