A senior aide for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) was arrested Tuesday for attempting to bring marijuana into the Hart Senate Office Building, according to U.S. Capitol Police reports.

Marcus Stanley, who served as a senior economic adviser and at one time worked on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee — chaired by Boxer — was stopped by a police officer Tuesday morning when he allegedly tried to “remove and conceal” a leafy green substance from his pocket during a security screening at the Constitution Avenue door of the Hart building around noon, according to a Capitol Police report.

Police confiscated the substance, which later tested positive for marijuana, and Stanley quickly resigned.

“Marcus Stanley is no longer with this office,” Boxer spokesman Zachary Coile told POLITICO. “He submitted his resignation, and Sen. Boxer accepted it because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable.”

Of course, there’s an excellent way for voters to confirm that his resignation is permanent, come November.

Related: Doug Ross notes:

Today a CNN-Time poll disclosed that GOP contender Carly Fiorina is now tied with Boxer.

But CNN’s polling numbers appear to have been *ahem* skewed to make the incumbent Senator look competitive with Fiorina. Jim Geraghty notes that the internals of CNN’s polls claimed that 18% of conservatives supported Boxer.

Riiiiiiiiight.

Obviously we’re going to be seeing all sorts of wild poll results in the next few weeks, as the inevitable “the races are tightening” meme goes into play with the MSM. Particularly since, as Moe Lane wrote yesterday, “This is the time when the rest of the people who will be voting in the midterms will start looking around and paying attention to everything that’s going around them.”

Moe has some thoughts on what they’ll be seeing.

Besides a GOP base that’s fired up, and Democratic staffers who are sparking up, of course.

Minor story. It will be buried and forgotten in a few days. This guy will probably not say anything to the media. The odds are slightly against Barbara Boxer—especially if Dick Morris’ wave theory is correct. He believes the Republicans will get a jump of a few points in the polls shortly before Election Day.
