Our attorney general isn’t prepared to discuss Islamic terrorism. And he couldn’t be bothered to read the Arizona immigration bill before demagoguing it. The outer party members in George Orwell’s 1984 were busy reducing the size of the Newspeak Dictionary and eliminating all of the doubleplusungood words in their vocabularies to avoid crimethink. Imagine how little an Inner Party member must know for his career to advance that far.
And speaking of which, as a prominent Inner Party member once said, “You will learn by degrees, Winston. There is nothing that we could not do. Invisibility, levitation — anything. I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to.”
