Don’t Try This At Home Kids

May 4, 2010 - 11:05 pm - by Ed Driscoll

If you’re going to play virtually all of side two of Abbey Road, the Beatles’ swan song (and one of George Martin’s finest production efforts) live in one shot, you either have to be seriously crazy, or have some serious musical chops. Fortunately, these guys (some of whom you may recognize) fall into the latter camp:

The Fab Faux – Abbey Road Side 2 (mostly) from The Fab Faux on Vimeo.

  1. Hey Ed, you know at least two of these guys, right? The guitar player and bass player are in the band on the David Letterman show, is that not right?

I’m still waiting for the Fab Faux to come to Austin Texas.

Not quite sure on why a tribute band would want to re-record an album. I mean, they can be fun live, but it seems if the album was so good to began with, wouldn’t people opt for the original rather than the faux? No slight on the musical talent – Just that after listening to a few minutes, I want the real stuff…

But the point is, the “original” (which I’m not sure they knew at time to be their Swan Song) album was NOT recorded in one take. Of course, it’s always harder to actually create something new, rather than just perform the music after someone has written and recorded everything for you. They’ve also had 41 years to listen to the original Beatles version and practice it, although not together…still, it’s always good to see respect for the genius of the “classics” !
