For those who might be interested – and you have every reason not to be – I am no longer with MSNBC. Three months short of my current contract I sent the following to the boss, Phil Griffin: “Phil, Just wanted to give you the heads up that my situation with MSNBC has become so unrewarding for me that I’ve decided to move on. — Craig”

Can’t tell ya how hard this choice was to make. I’ve had a difficult time with MSNBC since the presidential primaries, should have pulled the trigger long ago. but my scotch-irish blood keeps me loyal long past the bitter end, which has long past, sadly.

Crawford was a mainstay on MSNBC for a very long time and also one of the more level headed analysts they had. If the Craig Crawfords of the network are getting fed up with what’s going on, that’s bad.
Lest you think this is a moderate or conservative who’s fed up with the poisoned atmosphere and “lefty games” at MSNBC, this is what passes for “level headed analyst” there. On the day of Teddy Kennedy’s funeral, Crawford (co-author of Listen Up, Mr. President with Helen Thomas) tweeted the following level-headed missives (several of which he deleted the next day or so when called on them):
I’m pretty sure MSNBC will be able to find someone with a similar worldview to replace him — even if that person apparently also risks being called a racist by Chris “I forgot [Obama] was black tonight for an hour” Matthews.

Obviously, this is a major player who will be sorely missed.
“Which has long passed” or “which is long in the past”.
But, since “which has long past” passes spellcheck, it must be OK.

GE got all of the political benefit it could from Obama. The new owner may actually be interested in ratings, which will be bad news for Rachael, Keith and the guy with the neurological problem with one leg.
I agree with Candy above. No one watches MSNBC. I’m surprised they’re still on the air.
If any owner becomes interested in viability, Matthews may have a “Christian scientist with appendicitis” moment as that tingle up his leg creeps toward his wallet. What a dope.

I agree, and I am therefore confused by Crawford’s epic decision to leave MSNBC.
My observation of Crawford over the years (cable news, a regular guest on the Batchelor & Aleander Show, Imus in the Morning, etc.) has been that of a strong apologist for Northeast Liberalism. Crawford is basically a “Chris Matthews” Liberal who is practiced at disguising his venom with an “aw, shucks” demeanor.
If I was more of a cynic than I already am, I would say that Crawford is now disguising the fact that MSNBC is becoming less of a financially-viable source for contributors like Crawford. More bluntly, Crawford could simply be networking towards more economically-sound media models like Fox.
If you think I’m being too cynical, just review Crawford’s apologies for someone like Ted Kennedy over the years, the ask yourself why ANYTHING at MSNBC today should violate his political sensibilities.
Crawford has such integrity, it seems, that he finally quits when he’s accused of racism; but he evidently had no problem with the same vile accusation made almost daily on his network against people whose only real sin was opposing Democrat policies.
He “… simply could not any longer endure being a cartoon player for lefty games, just gotta move on to higher ground even if there’s no oxygen.” One must assume this means he intends to seek a position which affords him a more prominent and proactive role in those lefty games.
You’re correct, no one watches MSNBC anymore. I heard on the radio that at 9PM, in the 25 to 54 age groups that Msnbc had 24,000 viewers NATIONWIDE. A freaking test pattern could get that!
If MSNBC wants to keep paying people who drive audiences away, they better have deep pockets. You only get what you tolerate. As far as I’m concerned, Matthews and Olbermann don’t exist. I won’t even watch a football game if Olby is blathering. Eventually, those who pay the bills will get the message.
MSNB..who? Chris Mathews and his ward of insane patients will continue ranting until NBC realizes that the “game is over”. No one pays any attention to these nutjobs except as amusement in youtube clips.
I’m surprised that Craig Crawford lasted as long as he did. I’ve heard him occasionally on IMUS. He didn’t seem to fit the insanity mold of MSNBC. Well good luck, Craig.

MSNBC has become so irrelevant, that Fox’ “Redeye”, which airs at 3AM EST, beats their primetime ratings.

Crawford has probably seen the handwriting on the wall and is trying to bail before the crap hits the fan. Just like elected officials who suddenly want to spend more time with their families, media types either blame a person they want to take down a notch, or cite their disdain for bias. Crawford put both standard excuses together and hopes he’s bailed early enough that people will forget his cheerleading role in helping to get the huge fraud now occupying the Whitehouse elected. Before long, the traditional “news” and opinion shows will be making “poor widdle Barry” noises accompanied with all sorts of social and psychological babble as a cover for their own complicity in hiding the facts about him. Some, like Crawford, have started to see the cracks in the Barry façade and know what’s coming.
Chris doesn’t care because he thinks there will always be democrat fiefdoms to hang out in while they’re not the majority. Others, though, realize that there’s a good chance the entire Holy Rotten Empire of the democrat party could end up investigated, indicted, and in collapse. The middle level leftists are worried that the American people may treat them the same way as their propaganda machine has always treated those who dared to publicly disagree with them.

Scots-Irish is an ethic group. Scotch and Irish are kinds of whisky–correctly spelled without the extra e. Maybe that’s why some families spelled their family origins that way. It was the influence of the whisky.

When asked why he stomping all over the other cable networks (BTW, Fox News brings in more revenue than all the cable channels and all the network newscasts combined — there’s a reason ABC is closing all its bureaus: the news divisions have been in the red for years) Ailes said he talked to the MSNBC guys about their goals.
Ailes said MSNBC told him their goal was to be like Fox, assuming, of course, that they’d come from the left instead of the center/right.
It obviously has not worked.
When asked what the secret to success Fox’s success, Ailes told of how he actually met Colonel Sanders when the Colonel operated his first “Finger Lickin’ Good” chicken restaurant in Ohio.
While the “secret” is right there for everyone to see, Ailes is not giving out the secret recipe of seventeen solid conservative principles necessary for success.
