Yesterday, we witnessed a CNN talking head recommend that the president of the United States “Channel your inner Al Capone and go gangsta against your foes,” — and by “foes”, he wasn’t talking about al Qaeda and the Taliban. More domestic clobberin’ time is proffered to the POTUS by David Reilly of Bloomberg.com, in a column linked to by Drudge. You’ll understand why in just a moment:

President Barack Obama is starting to look like the second coming of Jimmy Carter. If he’s going to avoid that fate, the president had better take radical action — and fast.

That means doing more than offering belated talk about jobs, or waging ineffectual on-again, off-again bank warfare. What, after all, is the point of bashing Wall Street only to then blow bonus kisses to JPMorgan Chase & Co. chief Jamie Dimon and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. head Lloyd Blankfein?

Obama needs to ditch his professorial, community-organizer mien and start cracking some heads. Unless, that is, he is intent on paving the way for a Palin presidency in 2013.

Hey, he called the president “professorial” — doesn’t Reilly know that’s this week’s racial code deciphered by the left’s answer to Bletchley Park? Besides, as far as cracking heads, Reilly isn’t the first journalist to proffer such advice to the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner — PBS’s Jim Leher also recommended that President Obama “crack heads” last July.

Mission literally Accomplished, Jim and David. Just ask Kenneth Gladney.

Beyond that, I’m still trying to connect the rest of that sentence: “professorial, community-organizer mien.” That’s a topic that Byron York explored in 2008, when he asked, “What Did Obama Do As A Community Organizer?”

When he left for law school, Obama wondered what he had accomplished as an organizer. He certainly had some achievements, but he did not — perhaps could not — concede that there might be something wrong with his approach to Chicago’s problems. Instead of questioning his own premises, he concluded that he simply needed more power to get the job done. So he made plans to run for political office. And in each successive office, he has concluded that he did not have enough power to get the job done, so now he is running for the most powerful office in the land. And what if he gets it? He’ll be the biggest, strongest organizer in the world. He’ll dazzle the country with his message of hope and possibility. But we shouldn’t expect much to actually get done.

In contrast to CNN’s Roland Martin and David Reilly of Bloomberg, that’s actually prescient advice. Read the whole thing, if you missed it two years ago.

It’s funny that the left – especially the New York-based left — failed to learn from what happened with David Dinkins in 1989. He was elected for the same reason as Obama, because a lot of guilty white liberals wanted to feel good about themselves — and because of the same personality, a non-threatening one that wouldn’t scare off Democrats into the arms of Hillary in the primaries or independents into voting for McCain in the general election.

Liberals thought that along with Obama fooling moderates about his political plans during the campaign, he was also fooling them about his personality, and once elected would turn into, if not Al Sharpton, at least John Conyers or Charlie Rangel when it came to going after not just Republicans, but moderates within the Democratic Party. But you can’t fake a personality like that through a two-year campaign or a 12-year political career starting in Chicago in the mid-90s. Liberals may have been fooled by John Edwards, but that’s because they only wanted to see what they wanted to see — most everyone else could see the sleaziness oozing out even when he was Kerry’s VP pick in 2004.

Martin, Reilly and Lehrer are asking Obama to become a completely different person, after being Barack Obama is what got him into the White House in the first place. And even if he tried to do it, he doesn’t know how, which is why he picked Rahm Emanuel to be his chief of staff in the first place. But Rahm’s more interested in holding and maintaining power than immediate ideological gratification; if the left had its way, Obama would fire Rahm and pick someone like Florida Congressman Alan Grayson as his CoS, which in their minds, would solve all his problems.

  2. So far, Mr. Obama has broken all of his campaign “promises”…except higher middle class taxes. On the other hand, yesterday, he made an about face on that as well, announcing that on those making less than $250K per year…

“Jimmy Carter Redeux” is a best case senario at this point.

    “Crack heads”?

    How racist is that?!

“…if the left had its way, Obama would fire Rahm and pick someone like Florida Congressman Alan Grayson as his CoS, which in their minds, would solve all his problems.”

That is truly a great point. Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama’s immediate associates who helped him capture the presidency are primarily about pure power politics. Ideology is of secondary importance. Guys like David Axelrod and David Plouffe would be more than willing to make deals to increase the odds of remaining in power. Alan Grayson, on the other hand, is a true believer who is convinced that the only thing delaying the Obama bandwagon is the “lies of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.” That is why the Republicans will likely win back both houses of Congress in November. The Left is unhinged and simply refuses to listen to a rational argument.

I strongly recommend that everybody view the HBO DVD, “By the People: The Election Of Barack Obama” produced in part by actor Edward Norton. The intellectually shallowness of Obama and his campaign people is painfully obvious. It focussed on seducing voters with vague calls for “hope and change.” Specifics were shunned. They also deliberately made a big deal regarding the historical importance of electing the nation’s first man of color. This was a major selling point. Actually, it may have been number one.

While the Communist News Network tells the president to go “gansta” on the scattering politicians the focus is turning to his power base more and more. The Soviet unions (SEIU, AFSCME,NEA, AFL-CIO, Change to Win) are increasing seeing the focus of the tea party folks or as the media likes to call us “teabaggers”…thanks Anderson Cooper.

The Tea Party will win this war.

SEIU we are coming after you.

    Great piece, Ed.

“the difference between America and Europe is that, when the global economy nosedived, everywhere from Iceland to Bulgaria mobs took to the streets and besieged Parliament, demanding to know why government didn’t do more for them. This is the only country in the developed world where a mass movement took to the streets to say we can do just fine if you control-freak statists would just stay the hell out of our lives, and our pockets.”

    Perfect.
