I just added this as an update to the Instalanched-posted yesterday on the Obama astroturfer whose letter has been published in 62 publications in 29 states and the District of Columbia. (Charlie Foxtrot is waiting for her to hit that magic 57 states mark.) But for those clicking in from the top of the blog, it’s worth pointing out that she’s got company, Patterico writes:
“Who is Mark Spivey? Another Obama Astroturfer.”
Related: “Ellie Does England”, Tim Blair writes, spotting “a British variation on the American Ellie Light scam.”
Update: “Connecting the Ellie Light Dots.”

Uh-oh Another One- google “Janet Leigh” “Afghanistan”
according to Howmanyofme.com, there’s one person named Ellie Light in the whole United States. This doesn’t include variations (Eleanor for instance) that might use the nickname Ellie. Light is a pretty uncommon name. It’s highly doubtful that there are Ellie Lights in every one of these communities writing the same letter to the editor. Oh, and don’t let my propensity for understatement color your opinion of me–by “highly unlikely” I mean “D— near f—ing Impossible”!!!!!
Janet Leigh is also Earnest Gardner. Obviously the key is to search phrases from suspiciously well-written pro-Obama letters rather than names.
I never liked Where’s Waldo, or reading mysteries, but for some reason I’m all over this. It’s a fascinating story existing where Old Media and New Media meet… and cross swords?
A thousand points of Ellie Light.
By the way, did anyone notice that the surname of another of these astroturfers is Elle? Even their fake names start to sound hauntingly familiar.
Ellie Light left a comment on my blog this morning, explaining why she did it. Also an identical comment on Joy McCann’s blog “Little Miss Attila.” Same IP address.
